October 9, 200520 yr There is nothing important in that thread. Just a rant by a disgrunted person who has not tried the product and who has a particularly strong grevience with the .NET framework for reasons that are hard to figure out but obviously he feels strongly about.I downloaded the product in the first hour and have flown 2X with it and poked around in the documentation and with the configurator. There was a minor bug in the configurator, but it affected a relatively small element of the product and was fixed before I took my second flight. I didn't know it existed until I was poking around later in fact. It was only an issue if your preferred to cumstomize, so it did not affect most users. I've downloaded many payware products and have had much worse. The developer was quick to fix it and apologetic. He was also patient with a couple of folks who were unnecessarily insulting. The product itself didn't completely revolutionize my world but it was worth EVERY penny and is all that the developers said it would be. It is staying on my machine and I'm will pick up the remining volumes. Honestly I believe the product will become "must have" for all serious simmers (except, clearly, at least one who will keep shouting that it is a crime against humanity)and I anticipate it will win some awards. Run, do no walk, to download it.Delays led to the release of summer textures after summer had passed, which is pretty frustrating but understandable. They plan to be close to caught up in a couple of weeks. It is also a nice story: A hobbyist who decided to turn his many hours of work into a small income for himself. I wish him well.
October 9, 200520 yr Agreed with SaVas, this is a top-notch product IMO. And yes, there is (or should I say, WAS..) the odd bug in the configurator whereby the odd error message popped up, but I would hardly describe it as having been 'extremely buggy' as such. Plus, a patch has now been issued to address this problem less than 24 hours after the initial release. Can't argue with that. October 9, 200520 yr Still have problems with the configurator. Some message about the program being unable to find a backup file so now one of the autogen variations is "stuck". Already had to reinstall the program once to fix that. No problems with the textures themselves but they'll really have to work on that configuration tool in the coming weeks or I'll be asking for a refund. -
October 9, 200520 yr Jimmi, I had that issue. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, installed the 1.1 update, and viola problem fixed.
October 9, 200520 yr Author Jimmie,If you are still having problems, and haven't done so already, please post your problems over at the BEV forum. The technical guys have been hanging out there, and can hopefully help you.Tony=http://www.flightsim-bevs.com]
October 9, 200520 yr Author Justin at FSGenesis has said he is going to update his lanclass this year. It is hoped he and Stephen can coordinate something here, but you might want to encourage Justin if enough of you think this is worth doing. The Beta Testers have really pushed to get larger Thumbs, and think it is on the list for future update. What's interesting, is even with larger Thumbs for the textures, the colors don't necessarily represent exactly what you will actually see in FS. So even when we did have some larger previews of the textures to work with, it still came down to trial and error to see what you would really get in FS.Tony=http://www.flightsim-bevs.com]

October 9, 200520 yr >The installer tried to overwrite my isntallation of the .net>framework. Fortunately, Microsoft had put protections in place>to prevent installers from misbehaving in that way. So the installer doesn't detect already existing .NET installation?Michael J. Michael J.
October 9, 200520 yr "So the installer doesn't detect already existing .NET installation?"No, it doesn't. It automatically launched the .net installer, which was apparently included in the download. However, the .net installer itself refused to run because another version of the .next framework was already installed.I'd have prefered if .net wasn't even included in the download. That would mean a smaller download, and it would eliminate the risk of the installer messing up people's systems. The framewrok is easy to download from Windows Update or as an .exe from the Microsoft website. -
October 9, 200520 yr >.net like everything microsoft has the great ability to open>up your computer to more security holes. So make sure you>visit windows update to get the service packsInstall it or don't, but save us the techno-religious conspiracy theory crap. There is no more a security hole with .Net then there is with Java (and there are Java viruses), and probably less so. Many, many companies with a lot more at stake than you with your gaming PC use the .Net framework for their business critical applications. It's a runtime environment, that's all. It doesn't make toast and it's not a floor wax.
October 9, 200520 yr It's not conspiracy, and its not crap. There's a whole raft of complaints about music software that no longer functions, or functions erratically, after .net is installed. And there are no bug fixes for these problems, and uninstalling it is almost impossible without a reformat. Creative drivers are renowned for having problems with .NET, although I believe latest incarnations may have finally licked it.It's fine for a developer to tell us their app uses it, we can make a choice. It was just sheer good fortune that I installed BEV on my non-music studio rig that I use for simming as I have a copy of FS in a `clean` default condition on my music computer for comparison purposes. Nothing in the literature let me know that `unauthorised` software would be installed with my copy of BEV. I would have been more than slightly hacked-off if I had lost a single sound file because a simple app for a game decides it knows better than me what I want on my computer. I do not want - and cannot have - .NET on my rig. For reasons which don't have anything to do with flight simming. But according to BEV I don't have a choice? That's not right, is it? Allcott
October 9, 200520 yr >have anything to do with flight simming. But according to BEV>I don't have a choice? That's not right, is it? I love this logic. I myself would love having a choice of running FS9 WITHOUT WinXP installed. I wonder why the blood sucking FS9 developers limited my choice in such a brutal fashion. *:-*Michael J. Michael J.

It's only later that you can remove most of it. Why they don't have a simple installation system that you select the components BEFORE installation, only Bill knows. XP knows no such thing as a `barebones` install.Allcott
October 10, 200520 yr Well yes and no...Summer only (for the present) and any texture in the B and C sets called in other areas of the world will be called up and used by the Landclass call.StephenBirdsEyeViewDeveloper
