October 10, 200520 yr >>>"I just wanna know what the fifth season is. :-) "Sunter" ?"FS has two versions of winter, normal winter and "hard" winter.>>>>"It has to do with the fact that some of us don't want .NET installed. Period."But WHY? It's not like the Microsoft Office paperclip will pop up every 10 seconds saying "IT LOOKS LIKE YOU HAVE .NET INSTALLED!!! Would you like a cookie?" :-lol In fact, you wouldn't even know it's there unless you try to run an application that requires it. Also, .net is rapidly becoming more popular. This is NOT Visual Basic, it's far more powerful and I'd expect most popular applications to require it in the near future.>>>"Why you feel you have some God-given right to install anything you want for any reason you choose is beyond me."Well, if you don't like it, you can always choose not to install his program. If you already bought it, I think Flight1 can offer you a refund. It's his program, so unless the publisher (Flight1) has any complaints, he can include anything in the installer. However, as I said, I would prefer if .net was not included simply because it's so easy to get elsewhere and it would mean a smaller download.>>>"(my music is used in the BEV videos)"Interesting. I'm getting started with creating music myself..but I'm having a hard time finding enough time for both FS and music..both are espensive and time consuming hobbies..then there are the university studies on top of that..hmm did I mention eating and breathing..don't think I've had time for that today :D -
October 10, 200520 yr One suggestion is to take the .NET installer out and then list .NET as a system requirement for use. Then the final desision is up to the customer. Those that want the textures will need .NET and if you don't want .NET then you will not purchase the textures.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
October 10, 200520 yr All this whining about the Net Installer reminds me of the whining that went on a few months ago, when MS posted the information about their on-line FS9 Survey. All the conspiracy fanatics immediately started posting that big brother was going to invade your home via your PC and the Trojan Horse they were using was the MSFS Flight sim survey program. Conspiracy people, please put a lid on it , enough is enough!!! If every little windows add-on is going to require that .005% of all prospective customers approve of 100% of what is included in the program installation, we wouldn't have any add-ons. If you don't like it program, uninstall, and go away...and don't let the door hit you in the ***.......
October 11, 200520 yr To those of you who have a problem with Net Framework. This is stated quite CLEARLY on the Flight 1 website:Important Notice!!! This product requires the Microsoft .NET 1.1 Framework, and it will be automatically installed as part of the setup process. If you need more information about the .NET Framework, please visit the forums at the BirdsEyeView web site.If you purchased it before reading the system requirements and are complaining about it then you clearly can't or won't read.Craig
October 11, 200520 yr Those requirements have been updated. That notice wasn't there on the initial release. Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. October 11, 200520 yr Author Thanks for the support, Craig, but the NET 1.1 notice has been added since release. The strong feelings regarding Net 1.1 has surprised the Configuator team. Stephen will be discussing options with the programmer about future versions that may not require NET, but no promises on anything changing. While I don't think the team agrees there is a problem with NET, they do respect everyone's input and will see if anything can be done in the future to make some of you more comfortable. Thanks for your input everyone.Tony=http://www.flightsim-bevs.com]
October 11, 200520 yr I wouldn't be surprised to see .NET used in FS10 in some way. The fact is it's just another set of run time libraries supporting a programming language, not some kind of conspiracy.
October 11, 200520 yr One wee question if I may without my going back to read all of the replies again in the event that I missed the answer somewhere:I have Net installed and have for quite some time, so no complaints from this end on that issue. However, some replies have implied that there are error messages and/or some problems with the BEV installation if one already has Net installed. If the method of dealing with this scenario was mentioned, I am afraid I overlooked it.Is this really a hassle or problem in any way? What is the proper way to handle this situation for installation of BEV?Thanks:RTH

October 11, 200520 yr I've had absolutely no problems installing the program. I have had .net installed for a while on both of my systems without any problems.Pete S. October 11, 200520 yr Well I have relented and installed BEV "to see what all the fuss is about" and I must confess I am still wondering. After the install I fire up the default flight at KSEA and I'm off. First impression was that yes the urban areas do look better at low altitude mainly due the better alignment of the new autogen buildings with the underlying textures. Then I bank onto an easterly heading over the cascades. Certainly little difference in the forested areas compared to default textures. Across the cascades and into agricultural areas and over the town of Ellensburg WA I pause and take a screenshot and you can see this in the attachment together with a screenshot over the same town taken earlier with default textures. The BEV shot is on the left and on balance it does look better but gee whiz there is not much in it. This all confirms the impression I had about BEV from the pre publicity screenshots that any improvment is quite subtle. I know there are improvements in other areas such as deserts but there are freeware textures that do a very good job for those.Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." Lower settings are going to really minimalize the quality of the sim itself let alone any addon you may consider purchasing.... the proof is in the many, many screenshots that have been posted in our gallery and by some of BEVs newest fans.As a comparison, I have just taken a flight over Ellensburg, WA and with BEV on my system, here's a sample of what I see in the same area.Vince Quote
October 12, 200520 yr Well my equipment is quite good IMHO (AMD 3700+ and a 6800GT video card). I notice your screenshot is from a much lower altitude and at about 3 to 4 thousand feet above the terrain is where the improvements of BEV autogen are most apparent. However at higher altitude the benefits of BEV fade and it is much harder to see any significant improvement over default textures. In fact at anything over say 10000 feet some BEV textures in grassland areas exhibit an annoying repetitive pattern at least compared to my pre BEV default. See attachment screenshot which is at 37000 ft over Casper WY - the BEV shot is on the left. As you can see the repetive pattern is much more apparent with the BEV textures than the default. At the end of the day I reckon there is only so much you can do to improve on FS9 generic scenery using the landclass/texture approach no matter how much effort goes into perfecting the textures.Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." October 13, 200520 yr Everyone breath. In and out. In and out. :)It puts things in perspective for me. I used to wonder how nations went to war. We are arguing over something that will probably not even exist in 10 years. Kinda funny actually.Todd
