May 20, 201610 yr Yeah the truth is it won't be THAT much faster than my 980. I am going for it anyway, i just hope the upgrade is noticeable when in dense clouds. May 20, 201610 yr What's the "founders edition"?? Price says $599/$699 in that article? Essentially a $100 upcharge for very nebulous benefits of "reference hardware/design" "Perhaps" better component quality, matching, best stock cooling, etc.. But the reviews I've seen sure feel that it's $100 wasted. The 1080 sounds like 3rd parties are going to have a blast overclocking and going custom - But that will require waiting. I'm sticking to my usual "Wait for the Ti version" - Which, as usual, I think will be a huge bump
May 20, 201610 yr Which, as usual, I think will be a huge bump increase in price Fixed that for you :P CASE: Fractal Terra Silver CPU: AMD R5 7800X3D 5.0Ghz RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 GPU: nVidia RTX 4070 Ti SUPER · SSDs: Samsung 990 PRO 2TB M.2 PCIe · PNY XLR8 CS3040 2TB M.2 PCIe · VIDEO: LG-32GK650F QHD 32" 144Hz FREE/G-SYNC · MISC: Thrustmaster TCA Airbus Joystick + Throttle Quadrant · MSFS2024 · Windows 11
May 20, 201610 yr Great job your latest build Rich! Great comment Steve - thank you much Codemaster  Rich Sennett
May 20, 201610 yr Fixed that for you :-) NVIDIA is never cheap, true - But in all honesty, the best gains are indeed usually seen in the Ti versions
May 20, 201610 yr finally the voice of reason ...to calm and explain this " hype " GTX 1080. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myDYnofz_JE
May 20, 201610 yr finally the voice of reason ...to calm and explain this " hype " GTX 1080. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myDYnofz_JE Thanks for link - just as I thought marketing at the Nvidia camp - if this video is correct - Titan X is still awesome - certainty not worth replacing for a 1080 Rich Sennett
May 21, 201610 yr Now this is how I want reviewers to be like! NO BS and do a in-depth analysis. Cuts the crap and gets to the point and getting those more realistic performance results which as gamers is what we care about when choosing cards.
May 21, 201610 yr Largest jump in GPU performance in quite a while. Nicely impressive. I'll be getting one for my other games but doubt this new card will do a single thing for my FSX experience.
May 23, 201610 yr Hopefully enough people will realise what is going on and vote with their wallets. If nobody buys this product, the price will soon come crashing down.
May 23, 201610 yr Oh wow..was waiting with my GTX680 so worth it!!!!! Goodbye GTX680 you deserve a great and happy retirement... Hello GTX1080.... "happy days, are here again, oh the sky so blue, with birds again...la, la, la....."

Same story here with a s***** 760, however I will wait for a possibly cheaper non founder edition. -Jerome "In thrust we trust"
May 23, 201610 yr EDIT: oh, the 1080 goes down to 256bit memory bus?? Why the downgrade ... might explain why it's not so great at higher resolutions. The reason was most probably to have it equipped with 8GB VRAM, which is "easier to address" using a 256bit interface compared to the 384bit interface we had on the 980Ti and Titan X.
