This, and also situations where the CPU and GPU's were keeping up with one another fine, but not being asked too much of them potential wise.

Fill-Rate/Weather/AA....all of it, really. There's a variety of setting adjustments in each test. Obviously 24 vs 40fps between the 980ti and 1080 shows the 1080 shining where the advertise it to do just that...on large resolution monitors with relatively heavy hitting settings!

I tend to upgrade every cycle, if not just to keep up with the times. The jump from 980 to 980ti in X-Plane was practically negligible. Safe to say the experience from 980ti to 1080 is quite a bit more sizable and worthy if you're using a widescreen monitor or 4k display.

How was the performance increase on 2560X1440?

I'm anxious to get my hands on the GTX 1080 as well. I'm still running with my EVGA GTX 680 FTW (4GB) and it's keeping up even at 2560x1600. I can only imagine what improvements I'll get if I upgrade to the GTX 1080. Only prob is they're sold out everywhere. :(

I wouldn't get my hopes up for 1440p even on a 1080. 8x AA and full weather means pain for the GPU, and it increases with resolution. 1080p with locked 30fps should be no problem though (unless your CPU is a bottleneck, 4.0 Ghz is minimum). Always talking full details in any area (except cars (low), reflections (low) and shadows(none)) here.

I am running at 55-60fps@3440x1440 frames drop down to 30fps with x-life that's on a [email protected] and GTX1080. Still tweaking my settings though.

Made the switch to the Zotac GTX 1080 Amp Extreme and I gained about 10-15 fps over my 980ti!

Interesting, being as I also have a 980ti.  Think I will purchase a 1080ti when they come out in the future.

Is there much of a difference between the 980 TI and the 1080?

I brought my Asus 980 TI STRIX in October 2015 and have been pretty pleased.I run 8XSSAA+FXAA along with extended DSF with nice results. Sometimes very heavy weather causes a dip.

Is that my wallet twitching ? lol

I noticed a pretty large increase in performance at 1440p,I haven't dipped below 35fps on this new card and most of the time I'm in the 40-45 fps range even with payware planes and airports. I run pretty high settings too,is the card worth the $729 I paid for it,sure it's a hobby and I enjoy it plus I like having the bragging rights of having the fastest version (Amp extream editon features an almost 11ghz memory) of the fastest GPU on the planet.
