[11JUN16] PMDG DC-6 Cloudmaster UPDATED & Other Goodies!

Featured Replies

Well IXEG prioritised rain drops over fundamental systems like TCAS! In a PMDG aircraft all the systems work exactly how they should. I know what is a bigger priority for me and it certainly isn't rain drops!

Airliners managed without TCAS and it wasn't a factory fit for many many years before it became a requirement!

But I agree, rain drops on the windscreen is not a big issue for me.

It's because X-Plane is meant to be portable. You can move the complete X-Plane folder to another hard drive or USB stick etc. without worrying about corrupted installs or missing registry information

As a new PMDG customer, let me say "I'm impressed"!   I have flown flight simulators since back in the early days of nothing but a black background with white lines on, I think, a Commodore 64 or on

Possible, sure, but to make it convincing enough, it requires work that is of questionable return.

Just because the IXEG has rain drops but no TCAS doesn't mean that they prioritized one over the other. I don't have a good car but a good PC, but that doesn't mean that i give the PC priority over the car (in fact, it's the other way round).

Deciding on what features to bring in 1.0 and what to add later or omit completely is more complex than just making a list of priorities. Implementing a good working TCAS might just be more complex and time consuming than other things.

BTW: No threads about missing wing flex in the DC-6 yet?

Good point! But IXEG 737 has no wing flex either! I'm happy enough without wing-flex.

Pretty unrealistic for airplanes not to have wing-flex though .. I mean how can they fly without flappin' those wings!?

Define missing...

Define missing...

Actually, I didn't check if the DC-6 (or any other plane in my hangar) has wing flex, because I don't care.

I was just taking a stab at all those "missing wing flex" comments on the IXEG.

Is it...?

I was being sarcastic ... my original post is an oblique reference to the *flapping* wing flex of the FF 777 ... that looked like a big bird flapping it's wings.

Certainly NOT realistic :).

I think I'd rather my CPU cycles be used for systems depth and flight modelling rather than wing flex.

Fair enough. Thanks for the clarification.

Wing flex is subjective to the aeroplane. For example the VC10 has very stiff wings and in this example simmers would complain that it's not modelled correctly!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3lYCu4R6JY

But in this example of a 707 the wings are flapping even on the ground! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S77kswazRqg&index=1&list=PLFkDc499NBmlCw5roTn94HSRThTaG353Y

As a pilot one would be more concerned with management of the flight rather than how much the wing flexes. Looking out of the window to check whether the sellotape is still in tact is not a priority!

Hiya's,

Anyway to check which version i have installed before i waste a download ?

I have been busy with pc problems and also a new gpu, and have lost track on this plane

In my folder there's a ReadMe and it's got this at the top .....

PMDG DC-6 Base Package for X-Plane            VERSION v1.00.0041

          X-PLANE    RELEASE VERSION   X-PLANE

02JUN16         READ THIS END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT        0200Z

Do i need to dl the plane again from my purchase history/dl link ?

Thanks

Tony

Being a fan of wing flex, and now not sure from the last two posts, does your DC6 have wing flex modeled?  Truly we each have out own things we look for ha... rain, could care less and didn't like the effect shown in that video above, but I do love some wing flex and think your NGX and T7 do it so well.

Tempted to pick up the DC6 and dust of my old abandoned XP10... but then the A2A Connie was announced for release this summer.

Still tempted though.

Thanks

I think the proper questions is 1.) Does the real DC6 have wing flex to a discernable degree and 2.) if the answer is yes, has PMDG modelled it (I bet that if 1 = True then 2 = True)

Being this is their first X-Plane test and is as such a learning experience, I don't really know what to expect honestly.  Had this been for P3D, I'd have totally expected the moon and more.

Seeing what all has been fixed in early patches after such a long development period has me wondering as well as to why a lot of it wasn't caught in alpha/beta.

So, my question stands

If your DC-6 wing is flexing, you won't be flying too much longer, so...no.

Point me to someone who has released something with no bugs in it and then you can stand on that argument. The changes were actually pretty minor between 1.0 and 1.1. Nothing truly show stopping.

Was just curious, as I had previously read it was up to 12' total (+6'/-6') flex wingtip to wingtip when researching the DC-6 before a possible purchase. "DC-6, max wing flex (before skin deformation occurred) was 12 feet, six up, six down. (This comes from the DC6/7program Engineering Manager)."

Granted, that's less than modern airliners, but still noticeable.  My NGX wing flexes like a wet noodle and I love it, this is at least half that much.  Nobody would want a totally rigid wing on a passenger plane once the bumps start....

I of course have no access to a DC-6, nor will ever fly one, hence my simple question.  12' seemed worth modelling, but guess not.

Regarding my bug comment, no hard feelings meant, I just don't chug the PMDG does no wrong Kool-Aid as hard as others around here.  Disappointed proper sound modelling wasn't included in initial release.  May still pick up your aircraft, I know it's an awesome package and I love your previous offereings.  Just seeing how this whole XP thing pans out with you guys, as it's quite expensive to jump platforms with your purchase model.  Offer a path to update my license for a nominal fee to P3D when available and I'll buy it tonight.

Take care

Thanks!

We want more PMDG products for XP!
