December 22, 20169 yr So to do the metar by lat/lon - is this done with data refs or via a configuration file? So what other options are available to specify cloud tops etc? Is there some API documentation somewhere or community documentation on this topic I can read? Thanks There is a good explanation here: http://developer.x-plane.com/?article=custom-wind-weather-in-x-plane-10 In the metar.rwx file, the metars can be specified using both station identifiers, or lat/lon. If you write directly to the datarefs, you can control every aspect of the weather, even those that are only indirectly influenced by the metars (cloud tops, turbulence, etc.). The problem is, the moment you modify a weather dataref, the weather automatically "switches" to the "global" mode, so you lose the localized weather set by metar.rwx. December 22, 20169 yr Thank you so much...great information. So when you say we can control every aspect of the weather with datarefs - which dataref would I use to specify, for example, that there is a small localised storm cell at lat/long? Or can this only be achieved using metar.rwx?
December 23, 20169 yr Localized weather can only be achieved using metar.rwx, and hence the control you can have is limited to the informations that a metar can provide. The moment you change a weather dataref, real weather automatically de-activates, and the current conditions specified in the various weather datarefs become global conditions (i.e. weather is all the same everywhere). December 26, 20169 yr One question: why some freeware clouds "vanish and/or reappear" when plane or camera fly near them? (i use XP10) [Pc Intel i3-4160 3,6 GHz, 8 GB di RAM, GeForce RTX-3060 12 GB, Win10 Home 64 bit]
December 26, 20169 yr If the dataref for the puff_size is increased too much, clouds puffs will disappear when near the aircraft. But of course, that only happens if you are using a script that modifies datarefs. "Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".
December 26, 20169 yr I tried using XP11 weather and NOAA both gave me different conditions @HUTO using Cloud Gold 1.4 and XP11 Lua. This one is NOAA METAR says FEW030 , but when i used XP11 weather engine there were no clouds at all. Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus

December 26, 20169 yr Using SMP4 can I use data ref to increase the cloud draw distance? Which line do I change? Thank you. Aaron Tirrell
December 26, 20169 yr I think SMP4 overrides X-Plane default clouds, so I don't think it's possible to change SMP4 draw distance by changing datarefs. "Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".
January 13, 20179 yr I was refered to this very informative thread by FloB at the ORG forum and I am wondering if you have an opinion (or idea of a solution) to this lighting problem that I am detailing here http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/forums/topic/113556-sunrise-and-sunset-wrong-illumination-in-cockpit-very-annoying/ (specifically the exagerated brightness of the light on panel and in cockpit at the transition time between night and day)

Whenever you update X-Plane, it will ask you if you want to restore the original bitmaps, so you have to answer "no" in that case if you want to keep these modified bitmaps. Please get back with your feedback if you try them! "Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".

I am really talking about a strange phenomenon where, at sunrise, fur just a brief 15 minutes, the panel seems to become almost on fire, glowing golden and very bright... and after half an hour it disappears and dulls... It worth mentioning as well that the interior seems to light up more than the exterior at sunrise, which is totally wrong and unnatural... thanks anyway

Laminar knows about the problem, it's in one of the comment threads on the dev blog. Apparently it's caused by the plane body failing to occlude outside light sources at that specific time of day. So the instrument panel is reflecting dawn and dusk sky colors as if the rest of the plane wasn't there. They'll fix it... eventually.
