744 v3 BETA - On the gate at VHHX

What a pity to see screenshots of this beauty in FSX... P3D, with all its HDR, shadows and Rayleigh scatter effects, is now much better.... So much closer to reality... I hope that the P3D version will be released instantly after the FSX one...

Rob actually posted some screenshots in P3D. You can find them here:

Would love to see a picture from this kind of angle, by the way if the sound comes close to this noise then my life as far as FS is concerned is complete. We in the UK certainly know how to make engines, sorry guys. :hi:

That would add layers of complexity into something that doesn't need to be so complex. I mentioned in another thread that, if I get some free time, I might write up a quick program that'll "inject" some data back in. That way, you can just run it after you run the data manager and everything will be back in place.

No promises, but it'll honestly help me out too (I won't tell you how many times I've just added in VHHH into the RTE page and then just rawdata the IGS), so I might just find time.

Yes, some sort of batch file would be fine as a solution. i.e. click this program to add all from your custom navdata into standard navdata. The batch file would copy & paste the SIDSTAR file, and automatically edit the airports/navaids text files - similar to how most payware scenery installers automatically add scenery.cfg entries.

Keep the zip file on your desktop that has the approach files, create a shortcut to the pmdg nav data folder on your desktop, and copy over the files in the zip each time you update your navdata. simple and no programs required. - David Lee

Have a look at page two of this thread. What you want already exists.

Just copying files as you suggested doesn't work because part of the process of adding vhhx is adding the data into the latest file from navigraph. If you just copy the files each time then you are overwriting new data with old.

Personally,

I have no doubt this will be PDMG's best effort to date.  Given their continuous track record of improvement, why wouldn't it?  Don't feed the whiners.  You just can't argue with stupid yet some people do.

Boomer did mention wanting to see a first officer when looking over to avoid the "ghost cockpit" look, but in my opinion I absolutely hate seeing 3D people in cockpits for 2 reasons, 1) they don't look as real as everything else around them (Virtual Cockpit, Scenery, Aircraft, etc.) and as such immediately it cheapens the entire experience, and 2) they generally always look a bit retarded.

Best to leave the human imagination to mentally fill in the folks flying the aircraft.

Now, if at some point in the future they get the computer generated graphics up to the level where they can simulate real looking people who don't look either fake or scary, I'd buy an add on for a BBJ version of my 737 that had an all babe crew and passengers.

This is only for Kai Tak. I need a tool that works with whichever custom airport I put in, for example the old Quito airport etc.

Also the standard navdata (both Navigraph & Navdatapro) is missing a massive number of Chinese airports. The current navdata has 89 Chinese airports (by counting airports starting with "Z" in ARPT_RWY.dat) whereas China actually has ~215 airports. In other words 60% of all Chinese airports are missing. AFAIK GA in China is practically non-existent one can assume the vast majority are airports capable of supporting transport category aircraft.

These are fun airports in the sim, but no so much when you make a living flying into them.  From my perspective the new airports are much more bett'r.

I have a file with the necessary data in them.  If I am going to use these airports I just copy and paste, takes about a minute.

Is it truly that difficult to change out a single text file? - David Lee

Absolutely not, at least not for me. For others it unfortunately is, just look at all those requests regarding Quito at the time that scenery was released.

I don't believe that this is something that we'd do. It could create a mess in the code, and the database side of me cringes at hard coding things like that.

That being said, since I've personally spent a lot of time down there in the sim, I might make some sort of tool to automatically "inject" airports into the files and file structure, but it would be external and independent of the aircraft entirely (just as the nav database is). No promises. I have a number of projects that I'm working on at the moment (none of which anyone here knows about   :P ), but if I need a break from a particular project, I might look into it.

Thanks Kyle, you're welcome!

Greetings from the 737 flightdeck!
