X-Enviro is OUT

Featured Replies

Does this program create a weather map like the default  X-plane real weather or only directly around the aircraft?

Question for the early adopters: When upgrading from 1.05 to 1.06, do I just run the 1.06 installer or do I have remove 1.05 first? Thanks!

Remove 1.05 first, using control panel Uninstall program.

Rich beat me to it..

I gotta tell the reader,  XP (blah, blah) WITHOUT XEnviro is an only half-the-story, flight simulator.

I just flew into, and out of mid to dense morning fog at 1,800 feet,  then moved beyond it, with some of the most beautiful early morning cloudscapes I have ever seen in a flight simulator.

Without XEnviro...I ain't flying...I'll do something else with my time...like build that storage unit my darling wife has been patiently waiting for...but without this weather engine, I ain't flying anymore!

Kind funny that a few days ago you were totally pro SMP 4 and very skeptical to XEnviro and now here we are :)

That said, i don't know guys, i'm still undecided, my only conviction is that SMP 4 is a huge no no. I had a bad experience with SMP 3 + RWC, which never made me felt satisfied, i still regret buying it. So taking SMP out of the equation, i really don't know what should i do...

On one hand you have xEnviro that shows amazing development progress and organization, is ready to go, will improve even further and current xp default weather that sucks and no ETA for new xp weather engine. On the other hand, LM hints that new clouds system will come in the future (which i believe that will be better than SMP 4 itself without Ventura SKY but i doubt will have sensible overcast front improvement like xEnviro but who knows), xEnviro that cost 70$ bucks, still development in progress and the doubt whether when fully featured xEnviro will still be as light as it is now.

One thing for sure, there are people out there that are purely eye candy seeker, they don't care if an addon will add just visual improvements and no effects on the aircraft. I'm not like that, I seek for realism and immersion which implies no repetition and effects on the aircraft that forces me to adapt to the new conditions...and this just add wood on the fire since as i said i already had a negative experience with the 60$ SMP+RWC addon  and i'm a little worried to have a similar bad experience with xEnviro.

PS : I like to fly both at low and high altitude.

I just over installed...and it works great!

I am totally convinced, that xEnviro is by far the best weather/environment (let's not forget that part!) engine we've ever had in X-Plane. And I'm not a flight simmer who is too easily impressed, or is doing this hobby for only a short time.

xEnviro depicts such an icredibly immersive weather, has not too much of an impact on the fps, is extremely easy to use and to setup (I used to tweak my art controls manually, with the help of the Dataref Editor) and is able to show the variation of weather, just as we see it in real life as well. $69 for an plugin, that does such important things, and that you use on every single flight, is not too much, especially when compared to other solutions, across all platforms.

Screenshots and videos just don't do it justice. There is so much to it, and it is something you have to experience yourself. And let me repeat, because I am seriously impressed by this plugins abilities, NOTHING we've ever had, or currently have in XP, comes even close!

You want realism? Then, take the weather as it is. In nature, you don't have the ability to set up ceiling, wind, etc. as well, right? ;-)

If the place you want to fly VFR, currently has MVFR or IFR conditions, choose a different place on this planet. This way, you might see places, you've never been before.

And tubeliner flying with xEnviro (and I had an impressive experience yesterday shortly after t/o on my IVAO online flight) just gets a little more demanding this way as well.

I'm still not dissing SMP4.  It works, but in now having both experiences, my clear choice is Xenviro.   It is my opinion, that it creates the most realistic cloud and sky colors, that are dynamic...it isn't canned. It all changes in real time along the flight line.  The only way that I knew what this program could achieve, was to actually buy a copy...run the copy...and observe.  You can't do that, merely by other's posted screen grabs.  In a nut-shell, this program rocks all others...and again, this truly is a hand's on experience.   I wouldn't want to fly in an environment, without it now...and that would go across all platforms...not merely XP.

Well, ok, with that new wind slider there is no real reason to not get this addon... those guys are quick and listen well! Pity I don't have the time for flightsimming right now... but it is great to see all these good developments!

The new 1.06 wind limiting slider is a godsend while we wait for LR to address the cross wind ground physics challenges.

All right, with a wind slider I'm in. Have to respect a developer who responds to feedback that fast.

I'll pick it up later today when I have time for some simming.

What's the method for disabling SkyMaxx when running XEnviro? Can you just do it in the plugin manager while running the sim, or do you move the folders out of the /plugins directory?

Welcome aboard. You gonna love it!

Unticking is enough, but SMP will be active again upon every fresh startup of the sim. So, taking the SilverLining folder out of the plugins folder is the better method.

Unfortunately i did since v3, although i still used and use. I had great hopes for v4 but i see that same unacceptable things in v3 is still present in v4 and surely will not go away for a long time yet. This is the problem, my negative experience is holding me back... I really don't like the feel i get when i waste money :(

There is one thing that i really cannot understand neither from pics nor videos, which is the sensation of flying through clouds. Is it any better than SMP  or even better than default ? (Imo the only positive thing of default xp which gives a better feels of volume).

XP11 has been the turning point for many and has led them to the dark side, I wonder what will happen when XP12 is announced and released.

I cant' imagine what goodies it will carry, but its going to be ever greater, that is for sure.
