X-Enviro is OUT

Yep the real-time only weather is a real let-down for this otherwise amazing product. Yesterday evening I wanted to fly the C172 around, but everywhere I went it was foggy or poor visibility. I did in the end find an airport that was flyable, but only about 20minutes into the flight I ended up in thick fog. Couple of problems I have with this:

  • What if I don't have Internet access or their servers are down? Basically this product is rendered useless. It needs a way to use X-Plane's internal weather.
  • I generally only fly in the evenings, in Winter, that means cold, foggy and bad weather even if it was nice during the day.
  • I don't want to hunt around for airports to fly from with good weather, I want to fly from my own airports (including payware).

The historical weather feature will help somewhat, but surely it's just easier to let us choose the weather inside X-Plane if we want as the historical weather will no doubt be dependent on having web access.

Has anyone here tested that Lua script that was posted earlier, for backing down the winds? That's what's keeping me from buying it right now. If that script works I'll buy it.

Although... Tony's comment about fog worries me too. If if you can't adjust fog then I couldn't complete a flight in FSEconomy. This time of year there isn't that much fog though, it's mainly the winds. So I'll still try it, if that can be dealt with.

So far, this is still looking like an airliner and bizjet-only weather plugin to me.

What a rush...coming through the clouds....setting up, and timing my landing, between bridges, and road traffic..

WHAT A RUSH!

This is a big concern of mine as well, particularly because there is zero track record with these developers.... what happens in this scenario?

Everything I've read said it uses their own servers to supply the weather.  That's a huge single point of failure in my book.

If this was a $10 addon sure, I might not worry about it as much.  But, this costs more than X-Plane does, and has a significantly higher risk of the devs bailing or simply having technical issues down the road.

Thoughts?  I want this product, but at least with SMP I can use it indefinitely even if X-Aviation closed tomorrow by simply loading my own weather.

Xenviro developers are not going anywhere - they are good people with a huge passion for what they are bringing to the table

Well, with paying $69, you also pay for the sever cost, right? ;-)

What if the world stops turning tomorrow? ;-)

No one forces you to buy anything, but you definitely miss something if you never flown with xEnviro!

And if they do you gonna PayPal us all our $70 back? :P

Lots of "good people" have failed ventures and or run into road blocks.  The problem is with Xenviro if they do the software is completely dead.

It's a legit concern regardless how much you might like the people.

I'm not knocking the product, please don't take it that way.

I just get reluctant trusting $70 to a totally unproven developer with no track record (when continued use of their software requires their servers to always be working).  Sure, maybe I'm silly, but $70 is a chunk of change.

I guess instead of the silly "what if the world stops turning BS answers", I'm asking if this has been addressed anywhere?

RealAir handled it well when they closed, their software is still useable.

Steam has repeatedly said they have plans in effect.

Orbx has said that if they close, there are plans in effect.

What is Xenviro's plan?  Are they more reliable than RealAir, Steam, Orbx etc?

...then I would suggest you wait a couple of years and if xEnviro does still exist then buy the product, else in the mean time enjoy SMP.

Exactly. Can't see the problem. If you don't trust them, then don't buy.

Really liking this program. As someone else said: I can't stop "shift-spacing" when flying.

Oh my...

Then simply enjoy X-Plane without a weather addon, or go for SMP.

There are many choices out there, so everyone can find something that fits.

But be aware, if the world really stops turning tomorrow, you've never flown XP with the best weather depiction it has ever seen! ;-)

Over and out...

Yeah, and these .png files eat hard drive space like it was nothing... ;-P

i am really on the brink of trying it, just waiting for atleast historical weather. Currently more then often i cant use NOAA currently because of the bad weather conditions.

Maybe i'll get it and use both programs, does anyone know if disabling in the pluginfolder is enough or do i need to uninstall Skymaxx+RWC completly ?

Why not just enjoy real weather by the time they put in historical?.. You anyways have to pay 70 now and 70 then.. But you could get a few months of enjoyment between now and then.. So it's a bonus...🤔

Some people want to be absolutely sure historical weather (or a manual edit mode) is there and working well before they purchase. People may promise whatever they want, but they don't always deliver the goods.

that why i was asking if its ok if skymaxx+rwc+noaa can be left installed but disabled via plugin. Then i would be willing to try now because i simply could activate each version depending on weather. if i totally need to uninstall then i would wait until historical weather is implemented.

i fly ga and i fly fseconomy so switching airports is not really an option for me
