Sure...

It's not about the building material at all; it's about the car manufacturer.

Famous last words before launching DMC and the giant failure that was the steel-body DeLorean. I'm sure you're not going to catch anyone building F1 bodies out of aluminum instead of carbon, attempting to hang their performance entirely on their name and who they are.

It's both. To ignore one and pin it entirely on the other is not only wildly dishonest, it's entirely misleading.

I think PMDG could have the B747 V3 in X-Plane 11 if they put much efforts into the port. However I am no dev so not much comment apart from own say really.

Ellis.

It would not simply be a "port", like modifying an FSX aircraft to work in P3D, which share a similar code base.

All of PMDG's current high-end offerings are designed to work with the internals provided by the Microsoft FSX/ESP simulator engine, and, also, to use DirectX for the graphics, and DirectSound for audio. XP is completely different.

It's not that highly complex addons can't be created for XP - developers like FlightFactor, JAR, FlyJSim etc have clearly shown that it is possible - BUT, all of those products were written specifically for XP right from the very beginning.

For PMDG to create an XP version of their current FSX/P3D products, with all the same functionality, would probably mean scrapping much of their current code and starting from scratch. I'm sure it could be done, but whether it is feasible from an economic/time standpoint is another matter.

Agree with an earlier post on this thread; with enough effort, of course a complete port to X-Plane is indeed possible- but could require a LOT of code development outside the X-Plane code base, but obviously the legwork into what would be required to do so has been done here (analysis, cost-benefit ratio) and at the current time it simply doesn't make business sense to re-develop some of the complex simulations PDMG have put together.  This is all it boils down to.  Don't over analyze it.  Most folks complaining don't understand the complexities of software engineering.  It's not a simple re-write.

You sure have seen a lot of evolution. My hobby interest in computers started just a little earlier when I self-taught assembly on a CP/M80 machine (Heathkit H89), still a hobbyist to this day.  The complexity of PMDG's code amazes me, and a good portion of it is designed to overcome specific limitations of the platform be it P3D or XPlane.  Each platform has it's limitations which PMDG chooses to augment rather than accept the default.  This is very obvious to the novice when testing the DC6 originally developed for XPlane.  There is a lot of work involved just as you mention.

I sincerely hope we see a PMDG Jetliner in XP eventually. Even on the brink of V4 I can't bring myself to launch P3D, I get far more enjoyment out of XP despite its lack of high quality airliner content. Crosses Fingers
