It was just a way for LM to avoid any copyrights issue with Microsoft. I bet 80% of those showing the academic writing on screen are not student anymore. When I bought PRD years ago nobody asked any proof I ha the title to do that. PRD IS an an entertainment product, we all know both users and LM. However, the point stands: Lockheed-Martin has no incentive to make P3D more suitable as an entertainment product for the simple reason that it is explicitly not an entertainment product regardless of how many people lie about their purposes when buying it.

There is enough evidence to support an argument that it's an entertainment product. However, the development effort would suggest otherwise and that they are working for commercial clients only. It seems more like a channel for extra revenue; an opportunity to milk the market that can still salvage their FSX addon investments. They will give you little bits just to keep you buying. March 23, 20179 yr Should I hold out on purchasing P3D until v4 is released? I ask because I heard that Lockheed Martin doesn't offer an upgrade price to owners of the previous version. I have come back to simming after a long break. Reinstalled the FSX boxed version on my Windows 10 PC and it runs pretty poorly and I'm looking for something new. The X-Plane 11 demo is great and quite an improvement on what I am used to! I have X-Plane 9 with all the scenery DVDs it shipped with.

Personally, I recommend you just buy X-Plane 11 and never look back.

What you should consider in your decision is that P3D 64bit is a frail rumor and LM has put very little into the product over the last 6 years. Your not getting much for your money. I would wait for them to make a move first and see what it's worth. X-plane is great value for the money and nobody can dispute that. Jim Shield Cybersecurity Specialist

As we're in the XP forum I would suggest the same ;) If this was the P3D forum I'd say hold off getting v3 and wait for v4, but still get XP11 By the time v4 comes along you may then find you don't need or want it as XP meets all your needs.

March 24, 20179 yr If you're interested in flying the only worth investing Airbus presently available for the game market, go P3D v3.4 and FSLabs A320. If you want to experience the best weather effects, visuals and aerodynamic, flying real time weather or historic weather, go P3Dv3.4 and AS16. Not to mention if you miss snow where there's snow, daylight where there's daylight, and... of course, Moon where iit can be found IRL too :-), go P3D v3.4... But! If you want the best Boeing 737 experience available for any sim of the same type, go XP11 and iXEG 737.... or if you want the closest to real Saab 340 simulation, go XP 11 and LES Saab 340... Or.. if you want to get the closet to real life experience of flying a rotary wing, and don't want to spend your money in DCS World and it's Mi-8 or Uh-1H modules, then, again, go XP 11... If you want to have the most gorgeous scenery for various areas of the World ( and have a good rig to run it ) and have that for the price of just some huge downloads ( which can be costly to some - not my case btw... ) then, again, go XP 11... So... IMO, get both, support both... P3D will eventually go 64 bit X-Plane will eventually get better weather and seasonal textures Both will eventually get more realistic flight dynamics, with X-Plane still having, IMO, a better chance to excel in that area... Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

I disagree for "weather effects, visuals and aerodynamic, flying real time weather", sometimes I read this sentences by people who doesn't even have XEnviro. Maybe it will be true with next Rex 3D product. 1 hour ago, jcomm said: So... IMO, get both, support both... Don't think all people have hundreds to waste in supporting different developers and frankly the worst move is to waste money on PRD V3 when you have to pay again full price for V4 due in 6 months. March 24, 20179 yr Moderator A word of caution, I think trying to look for an unbiased opinion about P3D (especially one that hasn't been released yet) on the X-Plane forum (or P3D forum) is not going to get you a fair answer :-). My suggestion is to just buy it anyway, it's not a huge amount of money compared to P3D and it's easy to install and put to on side. If you don't like it, then your license stays valid and you can try it again in a year (and X-Plane can change quite a bit during a major revision cycle) Personally I will pick up P3D v4, and DTGFS anyway, just because I like my sims, new technology and use all of them. I'm pleased to hear that my ORBX scenery collection will still work in v4 for free, as for planes, well that's tough luck for me and I won't buy anything unless the price is reasonable (not $150) and provides me with something that really enhances the sim.

March 24, 20179 yr Moderator Actually both sims. Posting the same post in the P3D forum would have probably degraded very quickly, and vice versa. Some people are very defensive (and passionate) about their sim choice.
