Very poor performance in V4

Your pc should be able to do much more. My system is the same as yours and I'm doing with a clean P3D (no addons yet) around 70FPS with ALL settings high, using TDuke v2. Performance is amazing on my system.

The only difference I see is that you've put your P3D on the C-drive, while I've got a dedicated SSD for P3D

I turned on hyperthreading, everything is working as it should now

Now today, with hyperthreading still on I open Prepar3d and its back to the same thing. I'm at a total loss, frsutration is making its way in.

I've noticed your issues in a couple of threads here, and in the last three versions of P3D I've used I'm not sure what is happening on your end with such a strong machine.  I've used v2,v3 and now v4 and get very high framerates just like the others have posted with a clean install, even on much slower hardware than you have.

I can only surmise you have a different problem that is creating this... OS, Driver, or hardware.  What you are seeing is not normal at all for P3D in any version.

I do understand your frustration, but wanted to pass along at least some more info.  Keep us posted.

I'm trying to figure it out, and I'm guessing it's going to be a mere settings issues, whether NVI, etc. I'm keeping my hopes up and have FSX to fall back upon in the mean time.

Hi,

maybe it's your anti vir? Have you tried to disable it for testing? (Of course disable it only for a short time, and while it's disabled only use P3D and no internet).
What's the load of your CPU and GPU?

Getting stutters and little blurry

Then its a slide show after 5 min

Wth is going on

3.4 was perfect

I7 4790k

2 x evga titans sc 6gb each sli

16gb ram

Have changed anything win 10

Just updated nvidia drivers thats all

Any help is appreciated

I know this is a long shot and i haven't had time to research the forums, but I remember some users having issues and it was linked to their onboard sound cards. After disabling they were able to regain performance. Maybe do a search and see if you find something related to sound cards.

Regards.

Interesting

Tho it didnt happen when i was on v3

What would have perhaps triggered that  in v4?

How would you disable oboard sound in win 10?

Thanks

Reinstalled..

David, I think what be77solo said re: checking out your system, may be the secret. I know it is a pain and frustrating, but I share my experience.

First I have what is for P3D V4 a low-end system. Since adding 16Gb RAM, my i7-4770K will not overclock (and danged if I can underclock the RAM, so running at stock 3.5Ghz). Also my old 770 GTX 2GB (!!) graphics card is below VRAM spec, but it works (saving up for a 1080Ti), as long as I keep to similar settings as in P3D 3.4. You have a much better system than I have, and should not be having those results.

First install of P3D V4 on my system, no addons, at default P3D airport I was getting 104-120fps unlocked. Now that I have added some intense scenery an a payware test airport, with similar setting as I have in P3D cos of my graphics card, I hold 30-33fps (locked at 33).

But occasionally I would load up and FPS would crash to low teens and single digits (7!) - stutter fest. Like you I was asking WTH? One start of P3D all OK, the next bad - hit and miss. But my CPU load was only at around 25% maxing occasionally to 55 % (HT on, and affinitymask set to 85), sure my VRAM was maxed out, but no different behavior between the low fps situations and from when I was getting 33fps steady!

But my system was also showing signs of instability (pushing it to its limits I think compared to P3D V3 that did not expose these faults), exhibited as my Saitek yoke disconnecting and reconnecting intermittently, and that was when I correlated that to the FPS crashes. So I updated my Saitek drivers, check out my USB drivers, which stopped the serious crashes, but I also noticed that EventViewer was reporting many errors related to DCOM services. Dang MS and what they do in W10 sometimes - the service I eventually stopped from auto-starting was related to Xbox which I do not use or care for, but was probably causing havoc with USB connections as it tried to re-start all the time, could not find any wireless USB device other than my keyboard / mouse, and crashed, and tried again and again, sometimes to the point of a BSOD).

Once I cleared that up, so that NO and absolutely NO error warnings show up in EventViewer any longer, the system is rock-solid at 33fps (down to 25 fps looking towards some bad static buildings, but I know why that is - my 3D modelling and texturing skills have a way to go).

So I know its a pain, but get into Eventviewer and make sure you get absolutely all system errors cleaned up (Google what errors you see and fix them, or get an IT boffin to help you). Check all your drivers and BIOS out and update to latest. Also exclude all your P3D folders from scanning by your AV, Windows Defender, whatever. If a virus scan kicks in while simming, that can spoil the session if you do not exclude these folders. Also make sure your power supply is up to spec for your hardware components and is still delivering the power it should. This is often overlooked as people add in super graphics cards and extra hard-drives that can draw more wattage that the PS is rated for - under low loads system appear fine, but push it as P3D V4 does and weird "things" start to happen.

Hope this helps. Keep at it (man have I had late nights this week!), but you will solve this I am sure. It is worth it in the end as you have a nicely running P3D with a bonus cleaned up machine (at least till the next W10 update!!)

setting affinity mask makes v4 a blurry disaster.

after installing orbx my fps are low 20s with the a2a c172 over populated areas do not even want to think how badly the pmdg aircrafts are going to perform on approach to SoCal.

sliders are mostly to the right and no AI traffic

adding ground traffic does hurt performance, the people who say no performance hit were not paying attention

disappointed this talk of new directx, light engine, larger radius displaying scenery and you have to disable it all to get smooth fps above 30 on an average system

one tweak that fixed the slow texture loading when changing or moving views is adding texturemaxload=30 to the display section of the p3d cfg

Setting an affinity mask made my v3 a blurry mess too.  If you don't need it don't use it.

The one certain thing that will trap most unaware P3Dv4 users is using the wrong AA setting. If you have a 2K or 4K monitor, there is no need to increase the AA setting above 4xMSAA.  Higher settings are performance killers.  My v4 will run plenty fast enough with Orbx and sliders all right with a PMDG beta B744.

Straight after the install with default setting with the default flight I was looking a around 250fps.

Now I yanked it all that way up to see how it did in and around CYVR with the sun low in the sky at dawn and was delighted to see over 30fps most of time and it was using nearly 6GB of DRAM too so way beyond OOM territory. Granted with no addons but I an well pleased.

Try it with the default flight and default setting and let us know what your FPS is. It should be in the same ball park as mine, around 250

what program did you use to find this out?

I have a 1080p 42" tv as my monitor. 4xMSAA on my Nvidia Titan brings Orbx Socal over Los Angeles to a slideshow. Can you copy paste your p3d.cfg?

David, are you using NVI to force AA into P3D in conjunction with P3D's internal AA setting?
