March 4, 200620 yr Just for those who hate autoinstallers like I do.As it is such a big file and the autoinstallation takes quite a while (though fun thanks to the music) I played safe and installed it to my laptop first. :-kewlI just wanted to say I have had no problems whatsoever with the autoinstallation and am really looking forward to flying to the canaries all year! :-sun1If all is as fantastic as what I have seen so far I will definitely be donating. :) http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/143946.jpgregardsEdhttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v640/edetroit100/holy.gifAMD Athlon 64 3500+, 1024Mb PC3200 DDR, 300Gb HD 128Mb DDR Nvidia 6600GT PCI Express, Audigy 2 ZSCH Products Yoke, Pedals and Throttle Quadrant My FS Videos
March 4, 200620 yr Indeed, I took the risk on this for once as there was no option; but I wish, I wish, I wish those who compile this sort of installer would make it clear to users beforehand what files are going to go where. That's not much to ask, and would put minds to rest. There have been problems in the past, even with the most sophisticated products, where default files were overwritten without notification.MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a] _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
March 4, 200620 yr Hello guys! Thanks for your comments. Well, "we" (Luis) worked very hard on getting the config program to be as much clear as possible.. and if you check, you will see that you know every time what is the cofig doing, which files is it installing and where. Anyways ,suggestions are always welcome!Feel free to ask if you have any doubt.ThanksGiorgio La PiraCanarySim Betatesterhttp://www.canarysim.com Giorgio La Pira
March 4, 200620 yr Well, first of all, CONGRATULATIONS for the team!!. Well, I am from Tenerife, so I think you should also congratulate me :) . Anyway, I haven't already installed it because you got me three hours defragmenting my hard disk, so I am not so grateful to you as I could be. I have already donated, but it was before seeing these screenshots, so I am afraid it was not enough :(. I'll try to mend it soon.Well I also have a question for you. I have just got Ground Environment and I was thinking if there should be any concern of incompatibility. What could you advice me to do about that?.Thanks.
March 4, 200620 yr There should be any incopatibility... at least no incompatibility reported till now from the betatesters (and I was a tester of GE too..). If you find something strange (if there is something it will be autogen for sure), let us know.. but as I told you, nothing reported for the moment. :-) Enjoy!Giorgio La PiraCanarySim Betatesterhttp://www.canarysim.com Giorgio La Pira
March 4, 200620 yr Commercial Member Just an FYI, though the authors recommend to defrag before you install (mainly due to all the photoreal tiles being installed), I installed without defragging and it works just fine. So it's not really a requirement. But it does remind me I should do that some time in the future.. ha! March 4, 200620 yr Is the package the mesh and photo scenery only, or are there custom airports included as well? Thanks very much,Dom
March 4, 200620 yr Airports as well, check herehttp://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...id=306336&page=Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International Best, Michael KDFW
March 4, 200620 yr Author Well this package looks great but download speed from AVSIM have slowed to dialup rate - only a tenth of normal and worse than allnodesarebusy.com! Same thing happened about a weeka ago. Other sites were fine and today I am going through a different ISP.Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." March 7, 200620 yr That's a very nice picture Ed, what display settings are you using in FS9 and also what water texture are you using - the water looks great really!!All the best,
March 8, 200620 yr Hi!Few words about the installer. It works very well the only problem is that some things the authors should have thought a bit better.* Not possible to change the path where you want to install the scenery. At least I couldn't do it. That's not a good idea since there are people who keep the sceneries in another folder than the sim, I have most of the sceneries in other hard disk too.* The installer destroyed one entry in Scenery.cfg file, luckily it had made a backup so I could fix it.* The installer also overwrote Halo.bmp without asking. Now it is very strange yellow lights that I see at every airport in the sim world. There is a backup, but that is a MS file. Many people use 3rd party halos though... never ever overwrite or replace any default files without a permission from the user, this should be the rule of everyone who is doing this autoinstallers.* The scenery manager has the choices of 20 and 21 for Max Terrain Vertex Level in FS9.cfg. Here the default (19) should also be included simply because that is the default number. And for many people that is enough. Otherwise the scenery itself looks good.Tatu
March 8, 200620 yr Ed, I was actually about to comment on the EXE these guys put together! This displays the highest of quality in any exe I've ever run on my system. Im actually uninstalling and re-installing because It's so nice! (dont ask...)The exe alone is worth the download! lmao.. This package really is amazing! Now I just need to try it in FS... ;):-wave Chase Barnett
March 8, 200620 yr Author Thanks for the heads up on the installer but why oh why oh why do developers persist with compulsory auto installers? They can be the preverbial pain in the you know where. I for one have all of my mesh scenery on a different hard disk from my FS9 installation so this is going to create a right royal mess for me! And overwriting files like halo.bmp - well for goodness sake. Great pity because the package itself looks to be excelent.Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." March 8, 200620 yr Hello Webmaximus, first I installed my water a la this post:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=searchThen I added Vilk's water reflections:http://portal.fsgenesis.net/modules.php?op...6&ttitle=Vater_Display res 1280x960Hello Tatu: thankyou for the info! ...so I still hate autoinstallers! :-lolOne should be able to install the scenery whereever one likes. Now I need to fix my halo texture!I have also noticed my FS recompiles the scenery bgls every time I star FS!.....not a good sign!. :( regardsEd http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v640/edetroit100/holy.gifAMD Athlon 64 3500+, 1024Mb PC3200 DDR, 300Gb HD 128Mb DDR Nvidia 6600GT PCI Express, Audigy 2 ZSCH Products Yoke, Pedals and Throttle Quadrant My FS Videos
March 8, 200620 yr >I have also noticed my FS recompiles the scenery bgls every>time I star FS!.....not a good sign!. :(Oh no... not again. :-( Happens here too. I have had this problem before with other sceneries also, I have no idea why it happens. Time to investigate...TatuEDITOK, I think I found the problem. Look at your Scenery.cfg file, it has various area's for Canary, you see it from the name of the area or from the path.* Some of the paths are written as Remote=XXXXX they should all be Local. Remote means that the scenery is copied to a cache folder that FS creates itself. This is totally useless now when all the files are anyway in your hard drive and not in a CD or DVD. So the remote lines from all the areas should be moved to local like this:"Area.196"Title=LA PALMA 2006 by CanarySim - AIRPORTLocal=H:Flight Simulator 9CanarySimProject Canarias 2006Airport - dataGCLALayer=196Active=TRUERequired=FALSERemote=* The line Required=FALSE was also set to Required=TRUE. This means that directory must be there for FS to run and you can not modify (delete or unactivate/activate) these scenery entries in your Scenery library in FS. I set all of them to FALSE.T
