April 12, 200620 yr >I dont dare touch the time acceleration, it>just ruins the realism for me.HAHAHAHA! "Except for the cleaning and laundry." Of course, THAT doesn't ruin the "realism," right?Dear lord, what planet am I on?
April 12, 200620 yr >well I only go out to walk down the stairs to do laundry. But>I just imagine if I was really flying Id walk in the back to>take a break. I would not get in a car and go out or even take>a walk. This thread has the most hilarious responses that I have ever seen, even more so because most of you are serious. How about this: When I use time acceleration I "just imagine" that I've put my aircraft into warp speed. Me: Warp factor 1 Mr. Sulu.Sulu: Aye Sir, Warp Factor 1.Scotty: CAPTAIN! This is just a 757, we canna do warp 1!Me: Noted and logged Mr. Scott. Mr. Sulu, maintain current course and speed.Sulu: Aye Aye, Sir.Mr. Chekov: Captain...we overshot our approach to "Wienna" and are about to reach, um, Tranquility Base, on Earth's moon, Sir!Me: Not to worry, Mr. Chekov...It's NOT REAL!Spock: Captain...I must remind you that SOME species think that this IS real, as illogical as that may seem.Me: You're right Spock. Let's get out of here. Mr. Sulu! Set course for Reality Alpha! Sulu: But Sir! That will take us to a completely different thread!Spock: Indeed, Ensign.
April 12, 200620 yr >> So, using time acceleration is more "real" than>watching>>a movie? Or Reading a book? Ever been in a RW cockpit on a>5+>>hour flight?>>Another one who doesn't understand...I did not say that time>acceleration is "real." Guess what? I don't think that ANY>part of FS is "real." I was responding to those that THINK>that they are doing long hauls while "going out for the day,>or kick back and chill to music tv or whatever till it's time>to descend, or clean the house, buy groceries, do the laundry,>cook lunch, or practice piano.">>Get it?>> That's silly. Whether you are using time acceleration or doing something else, you aren't flying the plane for the actual long haul. Whether you occupy yourself otherwise or compress time such that you end up spending only as much time as you would on a short haul, then you're eally just doing a takeoff, climbout, descent and landing. If you were to do some manual navigation or manual flying during you rlong haul in real time, that's really "doing a long haul", anything else is pretense. http://www.commerciallevel.com/base/suppor...46supporter.jpg
April 12, 200620 yr Moderator Don't do them because they're BORINGDidn't do them IRL because they're BORINGIf I want to run my PC for 8 hours, I just leave it on.There's NO CHALLENGE to a long haul in FS except for t/o and landing. Don't need the ATC practice. For me the enjoyment is hand flying a short flight or taking a 1 hour(ish) flight using the A/P.Using Active Sky, I like to search for bad weather and do some IFR work.Just MHO,VicVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpghttp://www.jdtllc.com/images/rcv4bannersupporter.jpg RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
April 12, 200620 yr What I do on long hauls? I have sex with my girlfriend. Talk about a "long haul."ricardo
April 12, 200620 yr >>I dont dare touch the time acceleration, it>>just ruins the realism for me.>>HAHAHAHA! "Except for the cleaning and laundry." Of course,>THAT doesn't ruin the "realism," right?>>Dear lord, what planet am I on? >Wouldn't it be nice if we could accelerate time in the REAL WORLD?Then I could accelerate the clock to when programmers at MS FINALLY REMOVE time acceleration from FS because they found that only X-Box users actually used time acceleration. Only problem is that the time acceleration feature in the x-Box was creating a market share loss because they were accelerating time in the REAL WORLD as well as the x-box and the chip went into "infinity mode". People using x-box time acceleration were stuck in time acceleration mode forever, because infinity mode kicked in and they were never to be seen again. Thus, MS lost many customers to time acceleration, but they darn surely weren't going to lose all of us loyal FS customers, no WAY!~
April 12, 200620 yr Watching DVDs or reading books are pretty realistic things to do during long hauls. My friend is a FO on a 777 and he said that when you are two hours from the coast while crossing the pond they bust out the portable DVD players or he reads one of the ten or so books he brings along with him. You guys are crazy if you think that they just sit there for hours on end watching only the instruments. Plus sleeping is also realistic, because on trips that last more than 8 hours a relief crew member has to be onboard, and longer then 10 (I think) two relief crew members have to be onboard. The Captain and the FO then go to sleep and take over towards the end of the flight. I personally can not do long hauls on FS just to boring but to each their own.David
April 12, 200620 yr Edam thanks for your response. Gave me a good laugh. Some take it way to seriously but hey thats great for YOU. I fly I have fun I do long haul , short flights and if I use the autopilot the FMC or handfly or whatever I feel like I try to enjoy MSFS and really dont care what people think. I will not be told how to enjoy MSFS. Nor will I preach how others should enjoy MSFS. Andrew
April 12, 200620 yr Well. Like thequt97 said..Pilots DO stuff when cruizing.. other than just sitting there staring into the blue. And about the "serious level" of it all... It /Johan Windh
April 13, 200620 yr Various things including watch the TV etc... all centered around the flight. My FS setup has its own room in the basement, however it is linked up to a hefty set of speakers, so even when making coffee or watching some TV I can hear the rumble of the engines.I do various small things, some work, read forums etc... but am at the controls at least once per 30 minutes to check in and make sure OTTO isnt lying to the controllers in RC4.Unfortunately a week ago I went upstairs and turned on TV, started watching something then the Master Alarm went nuts and I ran like a madman down to the FS room..... and promptly fell down the darned stairs in my rush. As real as it gets, plane was going down quickly, rolling to the left, and as it happened it was my left arm that took the brunt of my fall. And yes, am obsessed enough I did land the plane one handed with, thankfully, my right arm unscathed and left arm in agony.I hereby claim the title as the first person to get a fracture because of FS :)So again, what do I do? I break my bones when flying long haul.-Jonathan
April 13, 200620 yr Before my other PC died, I would surf the net on the other PC while I let the AP do its thing. I would check once in a while to make sure I'm still on course or just to see the scenery. Now that it died, I would read a book or follow the path on my paper charts.
April 13, 200620 yr >Use time acceleration, since the most exciting part of the(...)>Guess what? You are not *really* doing a "long haul." Some of>you people really crack me up. And I'll bet that some of you>have complained about something in FS and stated that it's not>"as real as it gets." YES! So I'm NOT alone. Thanks. I'm with you on that all the way. :)Guess some people like to do useful stuff with their computer after having finished a long haul on time compression, while others consider having the PC doing some pretty useless simming for hours on end while they do something else to be just as useful. No offense to the onliners of course, that's a whole different story.cyaJens
April 13, 200620 yr >Edam thanks for your response. Gave me a good laugh. Some>take it way to seriously but hey thats great for YOU.>I dont think its way too serious because I practice for the real world, since being a long haul pilot is my goal. It gives me good practice to learn about procedures and get use to sitting around doing basically nothing
