April 25, 200620 yr Wow!!My wife is due home any minute and I need to think of an excuse as to why those jobs haven't been done..LOL :-smile12Once I'd followed Tom's instructions and recompiled AI Traffic for VHHX, installed hkautogen2.zip and set wind at 130 degrees and 8 kts, I just couldn't tear my eyes from the screen! This really is a truly fantastic effort.I've already set up a couple of flights to challenge a friend when he visits in a couple of days.Wonderful! Many, many thanks!!Mike
April 25, 200620 yr Thanks TomI did not realize that the AFCAD's would gray out and swap to bold print with the Active set to = FALSE based on layers and boxes unticked.I was thinking duplicate AFCAD's would be present and active all the time.Never to old to learn !!!!!
April 25, 200620 yr Oh, I see, Yes I read your excellent Readme, but I seem to have misunderstood the KIAS-thing. The touchdown to the left of the RWY, is a small matter that does NOT change the fact that this is a superb piece of work.I also realize that AI-aircrafts are...well, AI-aircrafts, and the FDE is a compromise in opposite to "user-aircrafts" which mostly are designed with a very precise FDE.By all means do NOT change the flying path it is SO great!.I come to think that PAI's aircrafts doesn't seem to be able to bank more than say 35-40 degrees, and some of the shots I've seen from KaiTak tend to do a much steeper banking..'bout 45-ish or more...I'll change the speeds back again then ;-)Btw. you seem to have missed Australian Airlines in the Aircaft.txt, TTools complains about the AC# being present in the flight-plan but not in the aircraft.txt (or was it vice versa?) Any way the issue isn't big so I fixed myself on the fly. But others might have problems...A bit off topic: Can you recommend any good plans for either L1011 aircrafts, or Scandinavian 763 routes ;-) SAS used to fly KaiTak you know ;-)
April 25, 200620 yr UPS me again...just to specify, I didn't change any speeds in the aircraft.cfg files...I changed them in the Aircraft.txt file...You know AC#1234, 461, bla..bla..bla I changed 461 to 261
April 25, 200620 yr Flight SimmersJust want to take a few moments and Thank everyone for all the positive post concerning Kai Tak 98.As stated in the readme I am not a scenery designer but if I can enhance a airport with FS9 default scenery than I try and do so. My area of expertise in the past is writting code for the behavior of AI traffic and User Aircraft GPS interface. That all started over a year ago with my release of PHNL, KLAS, LOWI, etc.A word about textures. The only part of Kai Tak 98 textures that is not in the FS9 default Asia scenery database is the checkerboard. Tom Gibson as most know created that board for me. Tom also made the effects file for the curved leadin lights and set them on the FS9 default poles in their proper position. The option to remove VHHH (Chep Lap Kok) is also Tom's creation and design. Of course Holger Sandmann gave us the mesh so there would be a hill for the Checkerboard to sit on.I also recommend the files that I tested my Kai Tak 98 for compatibilityThomas KwongNovember 2004VHHH2005b.zip(All new VHHH airport with additional Hong Kong buildings and watercraft scenery) Eddie ChanNovember 2003hkautogen2.zip(Plenty of autogen buildings)Hong Kong Terrain Mesh SRTM Data Jae Y. Shin. Hongkong.zip(use in place of the mesh I have in the kaitak98.zip)One other exciting thing that some of you are aware of is there is also a Kai Tak 63 which is in Beta.Tom Gibson has created this historical airport that will allow you to switch back and forth between 1963 and 1998 and his airport scenery also uses the IGS 13 offset 47 degree approach for all his historical AI Planes.
April 25, 200620 yr Hi Jim, I am having trouble with the curved app lighting sometimes showing very bright then going dim, disappearing, then one or two coming back on. Are they supposed to stay on all the time, do they blink. How far back are they visual when on app. Is anyone else having this problem. I hope I can sort this out because it is a great job you have done with this scenery.Cheers Nelson
April 25, 200620 yr Hi,Make sure you have the maximum number of lights set on the Lights slider at Options/Settings/Display.They actually pulse, not flash, at least from close up. They will wink out if you get too far away from them, and at that distance they tend to twinkle and blink on and off. They should be visible from about 1000 ft MSL when you are flying the IGS, under virtually all weather conditions, down to one mile visibility.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___ Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
April 25, 200620 yr Hi Tom, thanks for the quick reply. By lights do you mean "Hardware rendered lights". I set it to max and while sitting on the button of rwy 13 looking back they show up just fine. However once airborne they do their disappearing act. I did a vfr final and was well under 1000asl and they didn't show til short final (1/4 mile) and I was just skimming the top of the poles. Something must be wrong with my setup as others seem not to have this problem. Any other ideas??Cheers Nelson
April 25, 200620 yr Hi,Not that I can think of, sorry. Hopefully someone else will chime in...One thing you could do is edit the light effect itself. Open the file in the FS Effects folder in Wordpad. It's the newest file there, with TRG in it's filename. Then look at this section first:{Particle.0}Lifetime=3.90, 3.90Type=19X Scale=28, 28Y Scale=28, 28It's the X and Y Scale values you would want to increase to change the size of the lights (and thus their visiblity). Increase them to 28 (if smaller than 28), or if at 28 already double them to 56. Repeat this doubling with Particle.1 and Particle.2. Save the file. Now restart FS and take a look.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___ Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page

I haven't gotten my AI to work..but I love what you have done. ;) Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
April 26, 200620 yr VHHH2005b --- follow the readme in the download and install into its own scenery folder.hkautogen2 ---- only has one single small bgl and you can put that into the Kai Tak 98 scenery folder with all my other bgl's Hongkong terrain mesh ----- use it instead of the 2 LOD mesh files in my scenery folder. This file is over 9 meg and I did not see much difference between it and Holgers mesh which is included in my Kai Tak 98. my biggest concern was getting the hill for the checkerboard.
April 26, 200620 yr Hi !!I have also this problem with all trees on Kaitak and VTBD scenery made by M.Strong.Very sad over this because both are great sceneries !!So whats the problem here how to solve it ??Best !!Lennart
April 26, 200620 yr Hi JimLittle stupid question.I too don't have any runway markings nor navaids working for KaiTakWhat is the filename of your AFCAD file?RegardsHenrik KorningBGGH
April 26, 200620 yr Hi,The file name is af2_VHHX_ils_jv.bgl. You need to move that into your Kai Tak 98/scenery folder from wherever you placed it.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___ Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
