P3D V4.2 CTD when raining

Featured Replies

I recently updated to V4.2 (Client and Content) and am getting CTD when precipitation is present, rain or snow. This can be using either Active Sky or default weather themes. There is a thread about the issue on the Prepar3d forums, and LM have stated that they are aware of it and will fix it next update.

I hadn't heard of this before updating yesterday, and am curious as to how many of you are experiencing the same problem.

Thanks.

My rig - windows 10, i7 4790k, GTX1060 6gb, 16 gb ram, 500gb SSD.

Hi mdreyer

I would agree

I have a new rig -only a slightly higher spec than yours

Rain is a notable stressor to the system -I suppose it is also accosiated with increased clouds etc

Flying the new Milviz 310 with GTN 750,650 and WX Radar(shews the rain formations) has to be flown in P 3Dv 4.2 default settings for a smooth flight

We continually ask more and more from our systems!

I have not experienced it yet.  I try to fly when the weather is bad as it is more exciting and I like flying the heavies when this happens.  This is the first time I have heard of this "issue" and, if a problem, hope it is fixed soon.  I'm completely shocked the beta testers for v4.2 never picked up this issue as LM does some very extensive beta testing before release.

Any change in intensity with precipitation whether detailed is checked or not and you will get a CTD. LM apparently has fixed it but has chosen not to release a hotfix and wait months for the next release.

I waited till the end of last week before going to 4.2 client only, but since then I have had CTD on a number of flights at the end in VC panel and using GXS, I am now going back to 4.1 until LM sort things out, 4.1 for me was flawless and smooth.

Disregard what I said above. Turning ON detailed precipitation is the workaround until a fix is issued.

Hi - thanks for the replies. I do have detailed precipitation checked by default, yet I still get CTD if there is any change regarding rain, as you quite rightly stated Eric. Detailed precip allows the sim to load at start (if rain present in the first place), but any changes to intensity of precipitation or aircraft whilst the sim is running results in CTD. I hope LM can rectify soon and release a patch to resolve before 4.3.

Thanks and regards,

Murray.

Well, that sucks. With spring fast approaching in the US and Europe and the thunderstorms that come with it I imagine many more will start seeing this.

I just flew from KLAX to KPHX in the CS757 and got a CTD on descent.  No WER or Crash Report or Event.  Just that the sim went immediately to the desktop w/o any explanations.  No rain as I was at FL220 and descending but lots of thunderclouds in the area.  I strongly suspect UTLive as it does this frequently too.  I'm not going to revert back to a previous version as I need to test it to find the exact cause.  Will try the flight again and see if I can replicate.  If so, I will next fly the flight in default mode w/o any addons other than ActiveSky and the CS757 and see if I can replicate.  This is all I have been doing since FS2000 as there seems to be a lot of unexplained crashes and it has kept me busy since FS95.  But, I have always found it was an addon that caused the crash and not the sim.

Interested in your findings...I've had a similar problem with FTX AU descending from FL230 into YBCS...I found this post talking about rain and remember I also had some rain during the descent. In my case, I disabled several LatinVFR sceneries (KSAN, KMIA, & KSNA), which appeared to solve the problem. But, it's hard to believe these sceneries have anything to do with FTX AU and YBCS.

Anyway, I also have UTLive and I am running it as well.

The things I have in common with you are:

1. Descending from FL230.

2. UTLive.

3. Possibly rain has something to do with this...

UTLive has caused unexplained crashes in the past.  I'll suddenly ctd after a freeze.  The error was as follows:
Sig[0].Value=utl_client.exe
Sig[1].Name=Application Version
Sig[1].Value=1.1.0.0
Sig[2].Name=Application Timestamp
Sig[2].Value=5a328b14
Sig[3].Name=Fault Module Name
Sig[3].Value=MSVCR120_CLR0400.dll
Sig[4].Name=Fault Module Version
Sig[4].Value=12.0.52519.0

This indicates to me UTL was not installed properly so uninstalled and reinstalled and the error went away.  Before that, I got the error 100% of the time.  I also have FSX installed and UTL installed for FSX too and thinking UTL is getting confused.

First I want to fly the route again as before and try to replicate the crash.  If not, then something else happened and will quit my testing.

LM knows about the precipitation issue. It will happen with a vanilla install. Change of intensity of the rain or snow causes it.

I was able to duplicate but this time few clouds.  FSUIPC log is showing Advanced Weather Interface Enabled and then Weather Mode then nothing.  Saw few clouds.  Got to FL173.

Last thing I updated as ASP4.

Best regards,

Jim
