Ground Environment Pro is out!!

13 sets sir, that's not bad. You'll probably get faster sets produced if you leave the PC working and don't load the time slice too much.I get around 23 mins per set. Anthony has a kick as system, about $10,000 worth and he gets sets done in around 7 mins. You're taking around 23 minutes per set like I do.I would suggest you make 1 set of each type per run and make some overnight. Each set is about 100MB and I would think it would take about that long in download times give or take for most people so not much to help there.Even if you could download them they would be fixed and you won't be using the full advantage of how the program works.I took a few days to get the 72 sets I'm using now and if anything I've probably got a few too many. You only need to make them once.5 sets is enough to get you going with full function. Take your time to make others and get up and fly.If you are on set 14 when you read this quit out of it and get up and fly and enjoy and then make the 15th plus sets later. If you do quit it only removes the last incompleted set. It won't wipe out the already made 13 or so sets.

Kevin I couldn't agree more. I certainly wasn't expecting people to get so excited. Really I wasn't.What I think is exciting people is we are giving FS9 for the first time the option to make for example a really dark and moody looking overcast look. Until now that's not been possible.Nobody has ever given the FS9 user the option to adjust levels of ground textures before and this effect is being shown on the shots. It maybe that you have also missed some of the front end interface shots which shows the GE user how much more he gets for his upgrade of $19,95.But yes, I'm with you thinking wow this is a huge reaction from people though to be honest I do like to see our customers get exctied. Anthony, Carl and myself have worked really, really hard and we all said if pepople got "Wow" we've cracked it.Maybe we did crack it but one thing for sure I'm certainly not offended or upset by this very positive reaction to our work.

>Sorry Ray,>>I thought you were asking if GE PRO sky textures can make the>sky look convincing as compared the the sky you showed at>around 60,000 feet.I was but from your replies it sounds like it won't be possible. No problem, I've lived with the sky the way it is now so that won't affect my decision on GE Pro.>I wasn't aware that I suggested or gave an impression you>won't get significanlty better ground effects?Probably poorly wording on my part Peter. Obviously there will be an improvement to the ground textures over what GE Standard gives otherwise you wouldn't be marketing a Pro version.>Personally, I think if you like our GE Standard textures then>you'll love how we have improved them.I'm sure I will and I expect to upgrade tomorrow.>Don't take my word for that read what ohters are saying.Of course. We can't.>>I'll say maybe someday we'll get an engine developed that>works to make very high altitude work well too.The limitations are probably inherent in the base FS engine but I don't want to overemphasise how accurate the sky looks at altitude when GEPro offers so much more.>I have to say Ray I find it hard to understand you so my>sincere apologiseI'm sorry if my questions were ambiguous. Thanks Ray,Let me know what you think of it once you get it.Peter

I read the manual on creating ground textures and sky textures, but i dont understand it. What numbers should be typed in the box "select texture quantities" and what does it do.In a future update maybe it could be possible to implement a function that creates the basic sets you need.

Hi Peter,I don't know where I got my time from, it must be my mistake. The time shown when it completed was 14 minutes per set.As far as the product is concerned, In a word: "I N C R E D I B L E"Fantastic addon, I am no longer in a hurry to get my hands on FSX!!!. I can now wait on FSX until the addon community catches up.Worth "EVERY PENNY" of my cost to upgrade!!!Thank you

Hi there,There are a lot of ways to use this program and we don't feel it's right to tell the customer of force the customer how many sets to make.Where one person may want just one set for average condtions anothe may want many more to give more choice and more variation. You need ideally one set for each cloud condition if you want to get the most out of the program. On the create textures page for ground there is a create button. Begin by pressing it. It will opne a box and there it has empty 5 boxes and 5 types of cloud condition next to each box. Start by making one set for each condition. So in each box just type 1 where it asks how many textures you want to make. 1 in each of the 5 boxes will produce 5x1=5 textures and you end up with 5 filled in boxes with 1 in each box and 1x5 textures made.If you chance each value to say 2 you end up with 2x5=10 sets done. It's been a long day and I guess you've been reading the manual and not actaully using the GUI and we probably assumed the reader would be. Our apologies and we'll look at the help file and see if it makes sense witout using the GUI while doing so.LOL

thanks Mike, I appriciate that feedback very much.14 mins per set is a good system.15 sets or 3 of each type should give a fair amount of varitation.I would suggest you make around 200 sky sets and that is done in seconds and takes almost nothing in disk space.I know it's a bit of a bind having to wait (while textures are being generated) to get a new product configured to work but I'm so glad you got thought the pain barrier and got it working.Really glad you like it.

thanks for those kind words of praise David.Cheers to you sir!Peter

I have a slightly related, pre-installation question.I'm one of those simmers that has a drive dedicated to FS9 and that's it. Cuts down on having that drive overfragmented by the daily toil of the other uses of my machine.Under these conditions, would you recommend -- in light of how many textures an avid simmer might end up creating for GE Pro (with literally thousands of little BMPs) -- *not* having GE Pro and its associated textures installed on the same drive?I'm assuming that GE Pro "copies" the texture files it needs over to the proper folders in FS9, am I right? In your opinion, is it then O.K. to install GE to an alternate drive/folder?Highly anal retentive and technically over-sensitive question, I know. But we simmers are a funny lot. :)Anyway, Peter... I know this product will be a hit. There are people who likely aren't understand what it does, and it all reminds me of when you released Flight Environment... some were at a loss as to what the "big deal" was.Sometimes it takes a few weeks for its efficacy to sink in.Thanks for any info and congrats on a great rollout.

Wow, this program looks great. Quick question, though, and apologies if it's already been answered. I scanned the thread and don't recall seeing it, so here it goes:If you've got a flight where the origin's weather is absolutely foul, but the destination is sunny and clear, will the ground textures dynamically change enroute to reflect the climate change, or does the program look at the weather "big picture" and create an average of conditions along the route for one set that remains static throughout the flight? Thanks!

Thanks for your thoughts and comments sir,Yes a few peopoe are stuggling to imagine what this product does? We are working on it and in time perhaps these people will begin to understand what the fuss is all about. There are some really new idea in this package and it does things that are unique and most of us simmers are used to more of the sameNo problem with putting GE PRO on a second drive. I keep mine on my D: drive and have FS9 on my C: drive. Thanks for raising the question.

Peter,Does Ground Envir Pro replace Ground Enviro and Flight Enviro. I have both of these product installed. Is it best to uninstall prior to installing GE Pro?ThanksAndrew

GREAT JOB! Peter and company. I've had GE since day one and purchased GE Pro within a few minutes of release. GE was good but Pro is incredible. Screenshots alone really do not do it justice. The transformation in "atmosphere" is remarkable. Using with FE and ASV6 and it trully is a "new" Flight Sim.Thanks,

>No problem with putting GE PRO on a second drive. I keep mine>on my D: drive and have FS9 on my C: drive.>>Thanks for raising the question.Peter:Thanks a bunch for the admittedly esoteric info. Now I'm off to start building some texture sets!
