June 30, 200619 yr That would be great for an update! Give GE Pro also an option to download historic METARs a la AS6. The historic METARs are saved at the NOAA anyway in the format {time}Z.txt, so it should be fairly easy to retrieve them.Or...maybe even better...grab the METARs directly from AS6 - they're stored in {FS9}ModulesASv6{yyyymmdd_{time}Z_archive.dat. Although, they're in a slightly different format than the standard NOAA data.NOAA:KPHL 292354Z 19012KT 10SM FEW050TCU SCT090 SCT150 BKN220 26/18 A2996 RMK AO2 TSE27RAE2257 SLP144 CB DSNT NE-E MOV NE TCU OHD-W-NW P0000 60000 T02610183 10306 20261 53002AS6:KPHL::KPHL 280908Z 32009KT 3SM RA BR BKN006 BKN013 OVC023 22/21 A2985 RMK AO2 P0013::KPHL 280809Z 280806 14010G18KT 6SM BR OVC015 TEMPO 0810 2SM -RA BR OVC009 FM1000 11015KT 6SM BR OVC015 TEMPO 1014 3SM -RA BR OVC009 FM1700 21010G20KT P6SM BKN020 FM2000 23010KT P6SM SCT025 OVC035 FM2200 22008KT P6SM SCT030 BKN050::152,017,19.6/171,018,15.0/173,018,12.4/189,018,03.4/228,021,-07.1/203,029,-18.1/185,042,-32.7/186,053,-43.2/197,063,-55.7(basically, identical after the "::")
June 30, 200619 yr Congrats to Peter, Anthony and Carl - this is a ground-breaking addon and a must-buy IMHO. The added features in GEP are very clever and show lateral thinking. Well done guys! GEP is my default global addon when flying outside Oz.
June 30, 200619 yr thanks for the questions.won't affect fs genesis at all.landclass no problems.yes, you don't have to install our GE PRO sky textures.having said that; the sky texures we use do play a part to work with our ground textures. They work to darken and lighten ground to further enhance the desired situtaions and also effect the clouds and the aircraft.One thing to be careful of though with AS6 is if it's putting in it's own sky then we can't be sure how it will affect the intended look of our ground textures?It's probably best to use AS6 for weather and clouds and avoid using the AS6 sky sets.Also, you'll find our sky sets are very varied indeed and still manage to look convincing and natural.Anthony for example has over 400 sky sets generated by GE PRO and they take only seconds to do and take up little disk space.I would not worry and if there is any need for us to change how the program works for cutomer needs we will.I'm doing a PPL myself and if I saw that sky I'd get down really fast. LOL No way would I try and be clever. This is a mega storm and get down now!
June 30, 200619 yr Wow, thanks John.I really appeciate your vote of confidence and you are one heck of a developer.I would be most honoured ot work with you some day on a project or two.
June 30, 200619 yr I've played around with it for a few hours, and it definitely needs a more elaborate tutorial. The included manual is very thin. ricardo
June 30, 200619 yr YUP!Pete and the gang did it again. Well done guys. This is a must have.As your interview in CP mag says Pete, your an artist! Al Stiff
June 30, 200619 yr I just completed my first flight and I have to say that I am blown away. The quality of the textures are stunning and it looks like my entire world got VOZed.GE Pro + FE + FS Genesis + ASv6 = Heaven!Thank you so much. Those addons are worth every penny.On top of that great customer support, a non-pre-hyped release and a product that fully lives up to the expectations.At this point, I am not even sure what FSX could offer me from graphically. During my flight I revisted the FSX screenshots on my laptop and compared them to GE Pro and, truly, there is virtually no difference.Bravo!Pat
June 30, 200619 yr Thanks for the feedback,we are taking notes and we'll definitely look at making things easier and add to manual. Meanwhile let us know how you progress and if you manage to get past the learning curve.
June 30, 200619 yr Is this add-on compatible with Ultimate Terrain and what impact does it have on frame rates? The intial screen shots are impressive, but so is the asking price. Bob... Bob Prince
June 30, 200619 yr Hi,i am wondering about the metar download,i run most addons (ASV,RADAR CONTACT,ETC) through widefs on a second pc.my fs system has no modem so no internert connection,is there a way for me to use gepro the proper way.ThanksTony.
June 30, 200619 yr No impact on frame rates guys.works no problem at all with AS6 and it's been designed especially to work with real weather but is not a weather engine. So use AS6 in the normal way and there won't be any problems.Price wise our Standard GE package is only $29 and to upgrade for existing users they only pay $19.95I don't see this kind of upgrade being offered as a general rule by most other publishers/developers. Nomrally you may be lucky to get say $10 discont on an upgrade say from a weather engine on a $40 package or around 25% We've gone really agressive here to give our customers great value for money and they get a wacking 60% discount. That's unheard of as far as I know?So to all new customers, yes we appricate you are paying a fair old price for a new package at $49.95 but there is nothing else like it and a lot of man hours has gone in to this package.We are confident that any new user will get a massive wow factor and really if they don't we will do something about it.What I will say to any new user is that you'll not only get good support now and be well looked after but when we next upgrade our products there will always be a very good price for the existing user. And let's face it not all products are continually developed like we have done with GE to GE PRO.Thanks for the feedback and quetions. Much appreciated indeed.
June 30, 200619 yr All the metar does really is help you choose the best set of textures to use.For example, if your flying CYYZ-KORD and taking the route through KDTW it will look at the weather from all those check points along the way and load the best set of textures to suite the weather. So if it's mostly cloudy along the way you'll get the mostly cloudy textures.It works flawlessly (sp?) with UT and has no impact at all on frames.I would love to see some better road textures for UT users though. They look ugly now that GE has enhanced the the rest of the world. ;) Al Stiff
June 30, 200619 yr Good lord. I will just have to get this right now and spend a 90 degree summer weekend indoors....The $30 off is magic - thanks! Regards, Max (YSSY) i7-12700K | Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB 3600MHz DDR4 | Gigabyte RTX4090 24Gb | Gigabyte Z690 AORUS ELITE DDR4 | Corsair HX1200 PSU
June 30, 200619 yr One thing I'm looking for clarification on...If I'm doing a flight from say PHL-ORD, and the weatcher is real crappy in PHL-OVC002 TSRA+...you get the picture and the weather in ORD is SKC, what will the resulting texture set look like? My guess is something in between what is used for sunny and overcast, but doesn't that defeat the purpose of the add-on?
