June 30, 200619 yr I sweared to myself that i won't buy any more addon until FSX is out...So don't tell anybody!!! June 30, 200619 yr My god, that's awesome.THAT'S WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT: No huge announcements and no hype generated, just like with the MD80.Pat
June 30, 200619 yr How will this interact with Bev Textures and FS Genesis, etc.?Looks good, but I've purchased the above. Stan
June 30, 200619 yr It'll replace BEV and works great with FS Genesis. FS Genesis is just the mesh and evtl. some landclass and had nothing to do with textures.Pat
June 30, 200619 yr Um...schwing?As long as this will play nice with my ASv6 and the FSG landclass I've already got installed, I am ALL OVER THIS. I bought the original GE about a month ago when I reinstalled FS2004 on a new hard drive and I absolutely love it. This looks even better!Lewis "Moose" GregoryRichmond, Virginia Lewis "Moose" Gregory Durham, North Carolina
June 30, 200619 yr I am processing and creating the texture sets now. ETA about 2-3 hours. It seems like it'll take texture sets and ajust them to the sky conditions and somehow mixes them together so they create a perfect blend for the respective environment. The amount of data to process is almost obscene. So, first question: How will GE Pro play together with Flight Environment? Will FE overwrite the GE Pro generated sky texture sets? Do you HAVE to start FS from GE Pro? I'd assume yes.Is it possible to use AS6 weather data (or any other historical weather data) or will it be possible in the future? Or is Weather Maker preferred?Wow, I am hyped...First results in a few hours. I somehow seriously smell a lot of awards and no need to wait for FSX anymore and I don't easily get excited like that.
June 30, 200619 yr Hi there.the way at this time to use GE PRO with FE is to first fire up FE and load the sky, clouds water you want.GE can install sky if you want and to be honest it's probably fun to let GE install matched sky sets for you to best work with GE ground textures. One thing you can do is at any time quit out of the processing and you'll get maybe some sets made. It only looses the last set in production. One full set of textures for me takes about 100 mins but some people can get a set done in 7 mins.I must admit part of me says I want the customer to first see the look of how imporved our textures are compared to first release of GE standard, so get them up flying with the defaut GE PRO texture set so they can fly right away. You'll certainly get a feel of how this can work for you.Another part of me says but if they can be patient and make at least one of each type of texture set then they will get more a wow factor when they try for diffent looks.I hope you find the wait worth waiting for.Like all new products that are out of the normal way of thinking and radical and different like GE PRO my concern is "will people like it?"Certainly feedback so far from testers and first users is wow but we'll have to wait and see what you guys think.Fingers very crossed here in anticipation of what our customers will think of GE PRO.Thanks for taking the plunge and trying it out. Much appriciated indeed.
June 30, 200619 yr Peter, will installing GEPro alter existing third-party (FSGenesis) landclass that I use with my current installation of GE? And if I do choose not to use the GEPro sky features in favor of what I've already got (AS6/ASG currently), is that a problem? Can I choose not to overwrite any sky textures I've already got?I'm definitely getting this, it looks fantastic. I just need to know how much stuff I should back up before installing, or if I may need to reinstall other stuff (and in what order). Planning ahead and all that. :)Thank you for all the hard work, it really looks amazing! (On the GEPro website, the rightmost screenshot in the third row...I took one look at that and said to myself, "if I saw that sky and I was in that Cessna, I think I'd panic!")Lewis "Moose" GregoryRichmond, Virginia Lewis "Moose" Gregory Durham, North Carolina
June 30, 200619 yr Thank you so much for your help, Peter. Very much appreciated. The processing of the sets here is not really that bad. I have a AMD 3800+ and it processes one set in about 15 minutes. Good things take time and I can be patient. I chose to initially create 2 sets for each condition, but most certainly my CPU will get something to do overnight. ;-)I am a little confused about the METAR add-on, but I have to admit that I haven't read the manual yet *slap*. I understand that this option is optional and primarily a helpful tool to visualize METARS, but it doesn't really interact with any changes of the textures, correct?I could just as well use AS6 and produce the same result, I assume. Now the last question would be (oh, i am so ungrateful and greedy and will be much hated by the GE Pro devs). Can we expect a FE Pro as well that will also generate cloud sets and apply it to the respective weather situation?Patrick
June 30, 200619 yr GE pro downloads the latest METAR so you can find any weather condition at any airport. after you find the weather condition you like, click launch and GE Pro will install the matching sky and ground textures, and even starts FS9 for you. Man, it's so nice! My start sequence is now:GE pro (find a weather i like, and memorize the local airport code)let GE pro install the correct textureslaunch fs9launch TrackIR4once i'm sitting on the tarmac, i start ActiveSky (which will download the same weather, matching it to GE Pro's textures...don't you just love it?-feng
June 30, 200619 yr Right, but the problem is that I usually fly only 'real' airline routes. So, for example, I usually fly a scheduled flight departing at 11am around 10pm at night. I wonder, if I could 'trick' GE Pro by downloading the historic METAR into that folder and then using that one?
June 30, 200619 yr The metar section is a little harder to get your head around to start with. It's not hard though. It's not a weather engine but is used to match the ground texture choice in the best way possible taking in to account the current weather conditions. Now you can do this manaully and forcast and do all sorts of things to optimize the choice but really we had a concern with that....not eveyone would want to work hard doing things perfectly.So... we came up with an easy way for the user to be confident a reasonable choice would be made automatically for them and intelligently put textures in to match the conditions of cloud cover etc.I works like this....The METAR information is downloaded when you click on your departure airport. GE PRO uses that information. It also uses your arrival airport and any way points in between should you want to fine tune things. It makes an intelligent esitimate as to what texture set will best serve the conditions and these are loaded before FS9 starts. If it's cut and dry and you are in say Mexico in the summer and it's dry and sunny and you know it's dry and sunny and metar says dry and sunny then so does GE PRO. In this case GE PRO will automatically install a bright and sunny look to the suy and ground. The shadows and the look and feel will be more colourful and vibrant. On the other hand, if say it's winter and you know it's UK and you know it rains eveyday and the METAR says overcast then so does GE PRO. You get a darker more moody look. Now let's say you decide to do a round the world trip in real time with say 4 stops. Now in this exmaple there are a lot of waypoints and it will average things out and almost certainly you'll end up with a safer ground set installed which looks okay for clear and overcast conditions. Not perfect but okay. In this example you will see of couse all the new textures offered by GE PRO.One place or region to check is the tropical areas and Hawaii and Miami. So the point is here first the way the METAR works is it is not a weather engine and you still need to use real weather in game and it's full compatiable with AS6 and WMP4 etc.But... it's very interactive and does work with the weather condtions to install appropiate texture sets.Yes, there will be a FE PRO version come out that uses some of the technolgy we developed for GE PRO and maybe some new things too (grin)
June 30, 200619 yr you don't have to trick it.You download the metar at the time you want. It will keep this information until you next update it.If you are asking can you manually load a specific metar report for a specific time of day we did not think that would be wanted. If it is we can easilly do this in the next update. We will surely add some customer wants and must have's over the next few weeks. Carl will have his work cut out but we do want to keep our customers happy and get GE PRO working the way they want it.
