June 30, 200619 yr well, in that particular case yes, you'll end up with a more average set of textures as you don't really want dark when it's sunny or the other way around. It's really a matter of view point.Think of it this way; what GE PRO is doing is making the most of what is already limited by how the game works. Sometimes it will be spot on and others ok in terms of dynamic feel of colour levels and brightness etc. What you will find though is even if you end up with a more average or safer set it's far form defeated.First you'll always get great looking highly detailed textures that we hope gives you a wow factor no matter when and where you fly. Second and this point has as yet not even been talked about because we are trying to help pepole learn in stages about this new program. The second point is: the sets created by the GE PRO engine are all unique. I've got lots of disk space and I've got something like 17 sets of a partly cloudy set or average set. Each one of those sets is different as we feel even in real life you get a different look each time you fly. Subtle changes to colours and brightness will mean even in any two moments in time the chance that anyone else see the same set as you is near impossble. The chances are your 1 or more sets of partly cloudy (scattered) ground and sky textures will be unique. I never know what set I'm looking at as the sky also is from a variable. In my case I've got over 200 sets of sky all of which are a little different. One thing people can do to show you this is ask them to get shots for you at a given point/location and publish the shots. You'll find they all should look abuot the same but a scond look wiil show they are indeed different. A thrid look and some will be very different indeed. Can you produce the exact same look. Not so easy because just like the real world we've made things work with a very random element indeed. So defeated? I certainly hope not. Thanks for raising this question. I'm sure it's been helpful to others thinking along the same lines.
June 30, 200619 yr Moderator Hi Peter,The update looks very impressive and the opportunity to change the sky colour is very welcome. One aircraft I fly is Concorde and despite Microsoft claims that the sky does darker at higher altitudes I've never been totally convinced. The attached picture taken at FL570 by a lucky Concorde passenger shows what the sky really looks like. Will I be able to adjust the sky in FS9 to achieve a similar level of intensity?http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/151863.jpgThanks, Ray (Cheshire, England). June 30, 200619 yr the sky does go darker and MS are correct to say it does. You'll probably find with GE that you can get a darker more vivid kind of look like that but since we are about ground textures we tend to fly lower so we can see them.We are in to realism and sad as it is the Concode does not fly anymore so we are concentrating on what does fly as I'm is the case for Microsoft. My instint tells me what you are searching for is probably beyond the scope of FS9 and GE PRO probably won't get the level of reality you are looking for.I've never seen a shot like that in game and I'm not sure I ever will.
June 30, 200619 yr Commercial Member Congrats on the release of GE Pro guys. It is an awesome product! You have done a wonderful job!Sincerely,Reed Reed StoughManaging PartnerREX SIMULATIONS website: www.rexsimulations.comsupport: www.rexaxis.com
June 30, 200619 yr Hey guys, one quick question. If we have GE regular version, do we have to uninstall it first, then reinstall GE Pro? I ask, because last time I had to do an reinstall of GE, it caused alot of problems for me. I am hoping it just over writes instead. Thanks in advance.
June 30, 200619 yr it makes no difference Jeff if you leave GE Standard in or remove itboth are stand alone programs.Probably though you'll like the improvements in visuals so remove it as soon as you are sure of that.Once you do remove the older GE make sure you put the GE PRO textures back in. You don't need to reinstall it. Just select the GE PRO default textures.
June 30, 200619 yr After using GE Pro, does it store that texture set in a folder somewhere? I don't want it eating up storage space. I would like to start fresh each session. How long does it take each time you fire up FS? Eric
June 30, 200619 yr GE Pro stores the texture sets in the GE Pro folder. The appropriate weather sets for the current/desired weather will then be copied to the FS9 folfer. If you choose a different texture set, it'll replace the current one is FS.Hope this helps,Pat
June 30, 200619 yr Moderator Hi Peter,>You'll probably find with GE that you can get a darker more>vivid kind of look like that but since we are about ground>textures we tend to fly lower so we can see them.Yes, I understand the main emphasis is on ground textures and I wouldn't have asked about the sky but having seen the tool to alter it I asked the question.>We are in to realism and sad as it is the Concode does not fly>anymore so we are concentrating on what does fly as I'm is the>case for Microsoft.Well people fly a lot of aircraft in FS9 that don't fly in the real world. that's what a simulator is all about ;-)>My instint tells me what you are searching for is probably>beyond the scope of FS9 and GE PRO probably won't get the>level of reality you are looking for.Even with standard GE I notice a big improvement in the ground textures so are you saying that the Pro version won't give me significantly better ground effects? I don't spend all my flying hours at high altitude :-)>I've never seen a shot like that in game and I'm not sure I>ever will.Game? Simulator, surely? :-eekThanks, Ray (Cheshire, England). June 30, 200619 yr Peter,I felt it only fair that I should tear myself away from playing around with the GE Pro to add well earned congratulations for your spectacular product upgrade. You certainly have displayed excellent support for GE and have given previous customers of GE Standard a generous financial break. Much appreciated ........now back to flying in the REAL sim world with GE PRO.Gary :-beerchug
June 30, 200619 yr Sorry Ray,I thought you were asking if GE PRO sky textures can make the sky look convincing as compared the the sky you showed at around 60,000 feet.I wasn't aware that I suggested or gave an impression you won't get significanlty better ground effects?Personally, I think if you like our GE Standard textures then you'll love how we have improved them.Don't take my word for that read what ohters are saying.Back to the sky, I can't get the look you see in the picture. I could say yes, easy I can do that but it would be a lie. Our sky adjustments work very well but within limits. I wish we could do more and transform the illusion so it looks like that shot. We can't.I'll say maybe someday we'll get an engine developed that works to make very high altitude work well too.I have to say Ray I find it hard to understand you so my sincere apologise
June 30, 200619 yr Looking at the screenshots of the new GE Pro on their site I am finding it impossible to reconcile the near hysterical reaction on this thread to the visual samples.Anyone else feel the same way?regardskevin
June 30, 200619 yr Hi Peter,Just wondering if sets will be available for download?. I think I have a strong system, but it is now into its fifth hour of creating ground texture sets and I'm only on #13.My system specs are below, what system is being used to get results of 7 minutes per set?.Thanks Former Beta Tester - (for a few companies) - As well as provide Regional Voice Set Recordings Two: AMD-9950X | One: AMD-7950X3D | Three: Asus TUF 4090s | Three: 64GB DDR5 RAM 6000mhz | Three: Cosair 1300 P/S | Three: 990Pro 2TB NVME One: Eugenius ECS2512 - 2.5 GHz Switch | Three: Ice Giant Elite CPU Coolers | Three: 75" 4K UHDTVs | One: Boeing 737NG Flight Deck
