How boring that must be. I love England but there are so many more interesting places to fly to. I haven't flown in my own country until the release of TrueEarth Netherlands. 😉 I doubt if not flying elsewhere, like in the southern hemisphere, has to do with where you are born: I think it has a lot to do with the available scenery. There is a LOT more scenery available for the northern hemisphere than there is for the southern hemisphere. But apart from all that: you make it sound as if the southern hemisphere has the same kind of winters as the northern one. This isn't the case. For flights with what you'd call real winter conditions the northern hemisphere offers an extreme lot more options that the southern hemisphere. So yes, it may become winter down under but you can't compare that with northern winters. But well, as is explained already you don't need winters to 'enjoy' icing. 😉

I agree with you Ray, but in the end it is a matter of preferences, being based in the U.S, there are plenty of places to fly for me, but I also enjoy discovering other countries (the abundance of 3rd party scenery makes the experience much better than default scenery). When time allows, I try to reproduce some of the flights I have completed IRL, although icing condition can be experienced this time of the year, there are certain aspect of cold weather operations that do not happen for this season (off course I can use historical weather and simulate some of my past flights). I am impressed with what FSL has accomplished so far, they are definitely pushing the envelope. As some of my colleagues are telling me, the A319 is more challenging to fly than the A320 or 321 (although we dont have 321 atm) All the best, John.
May 21, 20188 yr Moderator Jeroen / John, After visiting the Netherlands a couple of times for the Lelystad show and seeing just how flat it is I appreciate it may not be the number 1 favourite for pilots but the TrueEarth package will make a difference. Last year I flew around the world in Concorde which took in lots of hot countries. I only had default scenery and airports for quite a few places but it's the weather that made such a difference. Landing at New Delhi and Singapore there was a lot of turbulence which made quite a difference to European airports. For Concorde the upper temps get very low in equatorial latitudes making it ideal for that aircraft. ISA -20 not being uncommon. You just don't get that in the temperate latitudes. I would imagine many of the airports in southern Chile and Argentina will have a climate similar to European winters meaning there will be plenty of opportunity to try the new feature. I'm having to be patient for a 64-bit Concorde. Ray (Cheshire, England). May 21, 20188 yr Quote I’m surprised at the number of people who admit they don’t fly outside the country of their birth. How boring that must be. I love England but there are so many more interesting places to fly to There are several reasons why I only fly around the UK, Ireland and the Netherlands........ ** I wanted to concentrate on upgrading a relatively small region "in its entirety" (total photoscenery coverage, autogen trees, and upgraded airports and airfields) ** I prefer relatively short flights ** I like to fly "low and slow", and enjoy the detailed scenery ** I only need to upgrade my AI planes and flightplans for this region (rather than the entire world) ** It allows me to keep my finances under control. In other words, I only buy those airports and scenery addons that are relevant to my neck of the woods. Having said that, I do not rule out "spreading my wings" in the future Edited May 21, 20188 yr by Christopher Low Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester

May 21, 20188 yr As virtual pilots Do we get to constantly call occ ops when we can't work out the hold over times... Now That I promise you all, would be as realistic as you can get.... Edited May 21, 20188 yr by tooting

NZ is close to the South Pole Jeroen, well the South Island anyway. Flying around Mt Cook, Queenstown, or anywhere around the Southern Alps you will experience harsh winter conditions. This week, we are getting the first snow falls. But such a small area compared to continental europe, it would only be fun using a prop. And no Airbus 319's down in this neck of the woods either. So, I prefer to do most of my winter flying in the NH, diue to the vastness, and extremeties. May 22, 20188 yr Initially I wasn’t sure I was going to get the 319, but now I’m looking forward to it. Finally icing simulation that simulates the airflow disruption and not just weight. I wonder if they’re also simulating anything around engine anti-ice like ice ingestion into the engines if you forget to use EAI, or turn it on late? I’m hoping one of the other new features is a windshield precipitation effect, but done in a way that’s less about the gimmicky raindrops, and more about the vision obscuration it can cause during certain phases of flight. I don’t recall seeing anything about a release date either, so for all we know it might not even be available until it’s winter again in the northern hemisphere. Brian W KPAE
May 22, 20188 yr I believe that this new feature will be very exciting. It is something that has never existed in flight simulation. It will take some getting used to. Right now I never take the time to de-ice. This is going to make it mandatory in icing conditions. It's a shame that FSLabs can't sell this feature to other developers to add to their aircraft. Once again, I am very excited about an FSLab's release. I've got to try this! Robert Yunque PilotEdge Ratings = CAT-11 (2016-09-13) I-11 (2016-10-23) V-3 (2016-08-01)
