Really like the close sign hanging up. Cute! Nice additional feature.

A good study app and has been useful for a few reasons irrespective of its ultimate purpose. A nice app.

In further testing I've been able to prove that in some cases the .NET app requires a bit more room that the traditional PE application due to the CLR requirements.

Anyway enough of that, let's look at what we can do. We can set FFTF to 0.1 and leave it all day but there's a snag rising above 2-3000ft we want it back to 0.2 or more. Setting the AGL section of FFTFd for 0.33 at 5000ft gives me an FFTF of 0.22 at 3500ft. The graph shows the descent to 1200ft at FFTF 0.11 where the right hand edge of the graph ends.

Again the core affinity:

10,10,00,00,00,00 - FFTF Dynamic

01,01,00,00,00,00 - Test Harness

00,00,11,11,11,01 - P3D v4

24fps locked on the slider, lower FFTF when we are at a lower AGL provides more performance to rendering nearby objects:

FSPS_FFTF_D_12.jpg

FFTF Dynamic bring up our FFTF value as we gain altitude. After a point there's nothing can be done.

The fact is that these two addons use almost zero CPU power when the sim runs. Even so there's no need to run them on the main simulator cores if we can avoid it. Inevitably there will be a cost if we can't keep them off the simulator cores.

In testing the .NET apps can make use of more than two cores and run more efficiently even though they look like they are doing <1% CPU.

In the above core affinity setup I changed FFTF D to use

11,11,00,00,00,00 - FFTF D - performance of the simulator improves!

00,00,11,11,11,11 - FFTF D - good result but not quite the best.

So in all a very good exercise.

I just bought and installed FFTF Dynamic this morning.  It is definitely working well.

I am using the altitude based setting. It helps to add a few frames while you are at the airports. It also helps a bit while I was on the ground with the dynamic lights on at night.

I used Steve's suggestion and moved it off the main sim cores and see no performance impact at all.

I tested at Orbx LOWI so far but I am happy with the purchase.

Hi,

FFTF Dynamic now is available for FSX/FSX Steam also.

I'm looking for an incentive to buy FFTF D yet.

So, normally my FPS slider in P3D is set to Unlimited. That gives me a constant FFTF value of 0.1 and very satisfactory fluidity on approach (from 5K AGL downwards). With my FPS Unlimited /Sync On settings in P3D and 25Hz monitor there's nothing FFTF D can improve for me at approach heights.

But is there anything I'm missing in GFX quality department at say 10K feet and higher where increasing FFTF value dynamically might be helpful? This is the question I can not answer myself yet.

Any comments, please?

Thanks.

Hi,

If you fly over a city then you might have scenery blurries (You have to check it). In this case, only higher FFTF value can eliminate them.

I get blurries over cities with unlimited.  To eliminate, I run with locked FPS for better texture loading.  But near airports I lose a lot of FPS so I have to run unlimited and then switch it after takeoff/before landing.  It sounds like this program would benefit me and I can run unlimited FPS but with less blurries because the program will automatically use a higher FFTF value during that time?

Exactly. And better use lock frames. Take a look at the config guide.

Steve,

Am not sure how this works, when anyone sets frames to unlimited the sim is setting FFTF to 0.01 its not drawn or shows in the config file but thats what its using.

I cannot help thinking if the sim is "writing" a FFTF to 0.01 with unlimited then when someone adds a FFTF line in the config of 0.3 or anything to me it seems like you will without seeing it have two entry for for 0.01 that unlimited "adds" and another one!, sounds like a conflict to me.

I've never added a FFTF with FPS set at unlimited only when locked.

You say 0.33 is the same as no value but set FPS from unlimited to 60 and you will lose FPS as it then kicks in 0.30 FFTF that again you cannot see. Anyone can set up a flight run around 50 fps max when unlimited is set and then set FPS to 60 and you see your fps are less than unlimited because of the 0.30.

Setting a FFTF with unlimited to me sounds like having 2 entries fighting against themselves.

But then am old and have a simple mind :biggrin:

As for AM only for addons

For me I let the sim have 11,11,11,11 and put everything else on 11,10,10,10 or put another way addons are kicked of the main processes 1-2-3.

The AM still confuses me.

so I have moved all my addons off 0,1 and P3d using all threads

on i7 4790k at 4.7ghz

am doing it wrong?

I thought the main sim uses 0,1 being the first core?

im lost lol

thinking of purchasing fftf dynamic

is it worth it?

FWIW I noticed that the price was 24 EUR a few days ago and now it's down to 19.90.  Not sure if that's permanent or a sale but the lower price is on several sites.  I was on the fence about buying this tool but this may have persuaded me.

I did end up buying it and spent the afternoon toying around.  Right now, it works pretty well for me using AGL mode to 4000 feet from .15-.4.  I just did a flight into SFO and it was pretty smooth and texture loading was good.  Now I don't have to run locked FPS to get decent loading textures and then switch it to unlimited on final so I can maintain smooth FPS (at the expense of the blurries starting to come up as I go in to land).  I may toy around a bit more in some other heavy areas but so far this is working quite well.  I have a 6600k so a middle of the road processor.  I run unlimited FPS in sim with Vsync and TB on to match my 24hz refresh rate on my monitor.

Nice post.. thx

Ive got a 6800k and need to run at unlimited FPS in order to have liquid smooth flying. But I do occasionally see blurry textures when in cruise.

I will try doing as you have done.
