FFPS:FFTF question

Featured Replies

Right now it works pretty well on arrival.  On departure it takes a bit for the textures to fill in as I climb and the FFTF rises but I can fix that with a higher FFTF.  An issue I'm having is that as I descend over mountains the mountains stay pretty blurry even with a FFTF at .4 when that wouldn't happen normally with locked frames and default FFTF.  As I descend further into the city the textures are pretty sharp even as the FFTF value drops.  Any idea how to solve this?

Also another question.  When using the program, if I use unlimited vs limited in the sim, is there a difference in anything if I use the same FFTF values for both?

As far as I'm aware, it'll only work when running the internal FPS lock. Running unlimited locks the FFTF to its lowest value.

It also works with Unlimited. See the manual.

I find I get best results overall running with frames locked. Choose a value to suit your circumstances. 30fps (without VSync or TB) seems to work best for me (for you it may be different), but I find it necessary to drop to 24 or even 20fps in very demanding areas. Fortunately it takes but a moment to change this value without the sim requiring to reload anything so it’s not really a big deal. To date I have not needed to raise the upper limit of FFTF above 0.33 which seems to deliver sharp textures at altitude (5000ft and above) just as it did prior to the FFTF Dynamic utility appearing on the scene.

Tip: Configuring a key to refresh the textures can sometimes prove helpful if the sim fails to clear the blurries at some point. I use the <TAB> key.

Mike

I've been playing with it more and I'm able to get decent performance even when I lock it which helps with my texture loading (although it's still better with unlimited using the tool vs unlimited and no tool).  But when in clouds it gets stuttery until I breakout and the FFTF value drops.  My system struggles in heavy clouds anyway so that's nothing new.  As long as my final approach is smooth, which is normally is now, I'm happy.

Reduce your cloud resolution ...

I use 512 and 256 for OC. Looks more real than HD clouds because of the softer overall look ( no need for HD soft clouds in this way ... )

How does one do that?

You need to have an addon cloud program that has the possibility to choose cloud resolution .

Myself , I use ASCA.

Clouds stutter is mostly a GPU problem which would not be affected by FFTF, try lowering the number of cascades value in shadow entries of p3d cfg. The higher the cascade num value the many times the objects are rendered giving multiple fold gpu load increase for some better depth appearance of shadows.

AHA.. got it!

I find that I achieve best performance by setting unlimited FPS + TB/ vsync on and by limiting the FPS to 30.5 in the Nvidia inspector.

Can I benefit from this tool in this case?

My main complaint about performance is not FPS but blurries and autogen loading in patches.

Thanks!

According to my experience, there is no cure for autogen loading in patches right now except setting the autogen draw distance to medium. And I tried a host of settings and tweaks which all didn't help.  FFTF may help with blurries but certainly not with autogen.

I have an (actually very weak) hope this issue will be solved in 4.3.

Kind regards, Michael

I RUN P3D4 locked at 30 I found it gave me the best visuals with auto gen no popping, I do not use NI only NV panel for my 4k monitor and half sink and the only Config tweak Lod 8.5, and I found with FFTF running at a high detailed airport like UK2000 EGLL on the ground with gates full AI with FFTF on FPS improved by 2-3 frames and it runs at about 23-27 FPS. Road traffic on 40%

Thanks for the info, so you lock the frames by the inspector like I do?
