August 28, 200619 yr >The FS Approach system is written for the default GPS.>>FS needs a flight plan which follows the approaches it has in>it's database.>>You can add waypoints to any FS flight plan from an external>source, including a text editor. No more 'vectors' for me! Chris Miller
August 29, 200619 yr Reggie you da man!!!O.k. let's get to the fallacy that's been reported time and again on these forums. Someone (maybe Aces I don't know) says it's too hard to put SID/STARS in the default ATC program. Low and behold STARS are already there... :-eek Why then may I ask is it so hard for Aces to better implement something that they already put in the engine anyway??? Everything is there you just can't access it by normal means so products like PMDG's 744 can better take advantage of it...I know people are sick of me ranting but this is the kind of stuff that leads one to ask, "Do they think we're stupid or what???". I mean this is ridicules (but at least we got better graphics)...
August 29, 200619 yr :-wave :-lol Chris calm down... Like you told me, Aces isn't going to do anything so why bother...Well now we all see there's much that can be done. Will the opportunity be given to developers to better expand on this, that's yet to be seen. The foundation is there. I had no idea the default GPS had STARS information programmed into it... What's even better is the ability to use external Flight Planner information. What get's me is I'm pretty informed (if not I know a whole lot of people who are) and this one totally missed me. Was there some documentation that I didn't read carefully??? It's always been said there's allot to the default GPS, now I see what they were talking about. Sadly the only add-ons that'll benefit from this are 'lite' products like CLS's Airbus series. None complex birds use the default GPS where as you FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR
August 29, 200619 yr First, Jim Vile is the one who taught me to use the GPS and learn how the FS system can work.I've got two long posts a couple pages down in more detail.I don't want to see SID/STAR procedures implemented for AI aircraft.Let me change that - I want some type of intelligent departure process for AI aircraft - either a preferred departure route we could program in with XML or terrain awareness. For 90% of the world's airports - no issue - though some of the "noise abatment" folks in Europe would love to have customizable departure routes. But for full STARs for arriving aircraft - the AI aircraft would have to be extended out to as much as 350 nm from the airport - a huge increase in the amount of AI aircraft active in the system. We can extend the existing approach structure out to the STAR end points in many cases. We also need ACES to fix the VMC/IMC problem.AI aircraft fly smart approaches in IMC and dumb ones in VMC.We need ACES to fix the descent to approach altitude when crossing the runway centerline in VMC or when on an extended separation waypoint. We need ACES to add some mechanism to control separation, either with turns, placing similar type aircraft on the same runway, and load balancing arrivals on open runways. For the USER aircraft however, the Flight Planner needs to be smarter. The waypoints are there - but they are not named. The Flight Planner does not choose them.Since they have no names - the ATC cannot mention them by name.No I'm certainly not letting ACES off the hook - but there is a lot of capability we haven't discovered yet.I'd like to see them concentrate on a few achievable things rather than trying to rewrite the entire system.
August 29, 200619 yr "I'd like to see them concentrate on a few achievable things rather than trying to rewrite the entire system."I agree. I'll even go as far as to say I could care less what AI Aircraft do as long as more options exist for the user and his aircraft (long distance low approaches and mountain hazards would be a thing of the past). I don't think anyone here would want the whole code rewritten anyway and we all know that's impossible for FSX. There's more than enough already to be expanded upon. Like I said all Aces has to do is open up and give developers more tools and info on this area of the sim.Chris maybe right though seeing how short sighted Aces has been on this subject over past 3+ years, they may hardball it and keep us on FS9 technology until the next version of Flight Simulator rolls out for XBOX... I mean this is ridicules (but at least we got>better graphics)...Perhaps not "stupid," but there are certainly a number of people here (and elsewhere) who seem to feel that talking from the part of their anatomy that never sees sunshine is a virtue... :-lol ACES will be delivering a totally new method of communicating with FSX known as "SimConnect." This will allow third-parties access to the sim's core engine in a manner that could only be dreamed of previously! Please allow time for the devs to complete their work, and then enough time for all third-party devs to wrap their brains and imaginations around this incredibly useful new concept in access...Trust me, by doing so one will avoid completely the "egg-on-my-face" syndrome... August 30, 200619 yr Be careful Bill you don't look like the "southbound end of a northbound mule..."New features don't necessarily mean they'll be widely accepted and unitized over other features. I'm astonished you of all people wouldn't want to see better tools for the default ATC system. I'm surprised you
