December 14, 20187 yr What is the general consensus regarding HT usage for P3D? I have been using it ON with my 6700k and modest 4.6 OC, but now I'm planning to reach 5.0 OC with 9900k. However, there is a vast majority of comments that stable 5.0 OC on 9900k is reachable with HT off only. Hence, I'm wondering whether P3D does benefit from HT. If it does, then perhaps I should curb my enthusiasm and stick with 4.8. December 14, 20187 yr HT ON or OFF depends on the CPU. I will switch also to the 9900k shortly, but will stay with HT OFF in the beginning as it has already 8 cores. System: i9 [email protected] - 32 GB RAM - Aorus 1080ti --- Sim/Addons: P3D v5 + ProSim737
December 14, 20187 yr With Process Lasso you can switch it off just for p3d. December 14, 20187 yr No HT here. I had it enabled for a while, but 4.4 runs great and the CPU is much cooler with it off. i7-9700K, MSI Z370, PNY 4070 Super, GTX 750Ti, 32GB GSkill, 43" curved Samsung, 32" BenQ, 11" LED, RealSImGear GTN750, Win10, P3DV5.4/P3DV6 and MSFS, several GoFlight modules, Saitek radio, Brunner CLS-E NG Yoke, Virtual Fly TQ6.

December 14, 20187 yr In my system i find PL does a better job, have tested intensively and cannot find an AM setting that works as well. So no-no it isnt for me. The work load is spread evenly over all the processors selected for P3d, all addons kicked off those allocated for P3d. I can even switch off HT if I choose or leave it on if I choose. with FFTF Dynamic never had such a smooth experience, constant frame rates, no blurries, no black autogen, no stutters on approach ,even managed to get sliders as far right as I have ever had them, pretty much maxed out. Use a Acer Predator Laptop with 980M graphics. I am happy with it and cannot see me flying without it in future, in fact not even bothering to look at the FPS in flight anymore. December 14, 20187 yr I don't talk about moving addons with PL to other cores, i only talk about P3D itself. Don't use PL for the P3D task, you never know what PL does to your P3D task dynamically. System: i9 [email protected] - 32 GB RAM - Aorus 1080ti --- Sim/Addons: P3D v5 + ProSim737
December 14, 20187 yr What i can see is it moves the work load to the processors I have set and you get it spread evenly and never see the CPU at 100% on any of the cores. You can set a higher priority for p3d than the other active processes and as I said if I wasnt happy with the result I wouldnt use it. I tried setting various AM settings in the CFG and wasnt happy that any of them gave me a better result than using LP. Would not hesitate to recommend giving it a try before you write it off. December 14, 20187 yr I agree with Joe on PL. For me, much worse performance - stutters all over the place. With my 8700K, HT Off and plays nice at 5Ghz. Ilya Eydis, PPL, ASEL
December 14, 20187 yr I am not getting the stutters, it might be down to something else. My predator has a i7 [email protected], 16GB Ram GTX 980m 4GB Vram, Used Rob's scenery tweaks, set max region purge to 1 from 16 and use FFTF Dynamic to manage FFTF in real time- 10k feet 0.10 and above upto 0.40 I have LP set up to run P3d on 2-7 and UTL, Active Sky on 0-1, I deactivate AV etc. Use the priority set to high on p3d and normal on the others. Use afterburner to get max out of the graphics. Cannot over clock tomuch because the heat is fixed being a 980m I am getting FPS between 22- 30 with FPS locked @ 30 1/2 refresh rate Vsync on and TB on. Have Draw distance maxed, tessellation high, 5m and 30m. everything else normal to high, I do switch D/L off though. What AM setting would you use in the CFG, as I said I have tried various, 252, 253, etc etc. MSFS2020 ,P3D V5, Ryzen 3600 4.2GHZ, 32GB 3000 Ram, Nvidia GTX 1600 Super 6GB, 22 inch 75 hz Monitor , Windows 10 204, Toposim, Orbx Global, Vector, Europe N & S California LC, England Regions, England, PMDG 737, 777, Majestic Q400 and Aerosoft Airbus A318-20.

I tried it out and like you, it made the sim a stuttering mess. That was after watching videos on how to set PL up properly. Deleted it all returned to normal smooth sim. But I tried it! HT=ON for me never had any trouble. Long stopped using an AM. Edited December 14, 20187 yr by Nyxx David Murden. If you want save 0&1 for addons and windows i would use AM=244. Personally i used on my 4470k AM=53 System: i9 [email protected] - 32 GB RAM - Aorus 1080ti --- Sim/Addons: P3D v5 + ProSim737
December 14, 20187 yr Yes, I have tried those and didnt see any noticeable difference apart from wasnt as smooth as using LP Cannot honestly say the sim performed better without using LP. As with most things P3d, I suppose it is what works for you and there will never be a one size fits all. Looking at the binary the 252 is the closest to what LP achieves 11111100. December 14, 20187 yr Author Folks, Thanks for your comments, but i think you hijacked the topic into different direction a bit 🙂 My only concern is whether P3D4.4 will suffer or not without HT. If it will suffer, then I simply dial the OC back to 4.8 and turn HT on. Honestly, I don't wanna do that as the whole idea behind 9900k purchase was to have it on 5.0 stable OC. AM edits, PL...all of these stuff is so 2015/2016 🙂 Edited December 14, 20187 yr by G-YMML1 9950X3D, X870E ROG CROSSHAIR HERO, Corsair Dominator Titanium 64GB DDR5-6000 PC5-48000, ASUS RTX 5070Ti 16GB, 9100 PRO 4TB Samsung ,990 PRO 4TB Samsung, AX1600i 1600 Watt 80 Plus Titanium ATX, ASUS 360 ARGB EXTREME 360mm Liquid CPU Cooling Kit.
December 14, 20187 yr With HT off no need for an AM setting, and the CPU's runs cooler, think that is the main difference. That is why the thread moved on to alternatives to HT off.
