Re the original post..."What is the general consensus regarding HT usage for P3D?"... My own experience has been that, after many tests, with no AM value in the cfg, returns the smoothest and best performance, which incidentally, is what LM recommend 😉

Recently completed a 9900k/2800ti build and simultaneously switched from FSX to P3D. Originally OC’d to 5.0 with -2 AVX offset with HT enabled, I was a litttle disappointed with microstutters compared to my ancient rig and FSX. Turned off HT (and boosted the OC to 5.1 while I was at it) - microstutters all but gone, very smooth.

As an aside, I have a Noctua DH-15, and it’s quite sufficient for my needs, and my chip was very easy to OC with Asus’ auto-tuning utility and little else. It’s stable running Prime 95 with voltage at about 1.28 at temps at 80 or less according to coretemp (that’s at 4.9 with the offset). I’m not saying Prime is the have all end all be all of stress testing, or that coretemp is 100% accurate (in almost every forum of any type I usually see any discussion of stress-testing or measurements devolve into “that’s not the best/most accurate way to...”), just that it’s at least a fair estimation and close enough for me to say I’m done tweaking and just want to fly. 5.1 at or around 1.3 is ok with me - don’t want to bother with trying to get a little less voltage or a little more clock.

Just dropped my core temps by 12C by disabling HT. on a 7700K.  At the same time the core multiplier went from 45 to 51.  P3D 4.4 is smooth as glass.

My core temp never gets above 50* C... with HT on.  Pretty sure that's a good temp.

Mine on the 7700K were hitting 100C under load.  Without HT the temps are 85C but with a high clock - 5.1 ghz.

Cheers

Yes it is a good temp.

My 8700K runs a bit hotter than your's @ about 52C with HT on, but still well within the reasonable range.

IMHO running your CPU at temps north of 80C for extended periods of time is simply not good for the long term health of your processor.
