August 11, 200619 yr Overall I am well impressed by the FSX demo. One thing is for sure - this FS team really struggled to get it out for us to test it way before we buy it. This was a very important decision, and for me it revealed a few of positive surprises such as:1) It runs as good as fs9 on my system (P4@3,0GHz,2MB RAM, Geeforce 6600 256MB, WinXPPro SP2).2) There has been work on an area I thought would be completely forgoten - the flight and systems models. Regarding the first I applaud the fact that the default aircraft behave acceptably in as far as departure from stable flight goes, meaning that they stall and even spiral convincingly! I still have to perform a few more tests but apparently something was changed in rw rolling & sideways friction coeficients as well.3) I like the additional systems in the Canadair (APU included!!!)I will certainly buy as soon as it gets available - the "Pro" version of course.
August 11, 200619 yr poxy lol i knew what they meant!I like the demo, I would love to see what the finished article will be like. I am thinking multiple monitors and lots and lots of GFX power...still I'm impressed with how my old beasty ran it, and I am sure dx10 will make this new sim the grandaddy of all flight sims.. until xi of course!AlanEngland
August 11, 200619 yr >I wouldnt worry about him. He talks like a spoilt child. >Maybe just a forum TROLL :)Oh, no worries. I just didn't know what he meant. Another term to add to my mental dictionary. ;)
August 11, 200619 yr >And honestly comparing a>640 MB demo to the 12 GB final product is well pretty stupid>don't you think? Well, if he's not happy with a 640MB demo then he'll be 19.2 times unhappier with the 12GB product! Ha ha ha! (I crack myself up.)
August 11, 200619 yr >Hey I also tried taking off with the Beaver from a land>airport.>>I was on full throttle, and the plane moved about 1m after 30>seconds. Clearly I was not going to achieve take off>velocity.>>In the end it occurred to me, that as this was a seaplane, I>was never going to take off from tarmac.>>BTW: You can laught at me if you want, I won't be offended. No laughing here. It's been pointed out elsewhere that we could have included a water runway for the demo. D'oh!

August 11, 200619 yr ACES did account for the stuff, it's called new hardware!Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
August 11, 200619 yr If this were the final product I'd be concerned. As it is clearly not the final, I am not willing to make final judgement. That being said, I see great cause for hope in FSX. I've only had a short time to play around with it so far, but what I've seen isn't nearly as bad as some of the doom & gloomers say, at least not on my machine. Yes, there are glitches. I expect glitches in demos. I can remember waiting with baited breath for one of the Papyrus NASCAR sim demos to come out one year and remember how dismayed I was when I finally got it. Since then I've learned that a demo is only a demo and nothing else.I can't even count the number of game demos I've received on cd's bundled with various computer magazines, but I'd be willing to say a full 90% of the demos I've tried from other games/sims/etc were poor at best. I don't find the FSX demo to really be any worse than any other demo I've tried.I was glad to just get a glimpse of the future with this demo. I didn't expect a perfectly operating piece of software and if anyone did, I'm sure they are disappointed. ACES went out on a limb providing this demo and I'm glad they did. I just wonder how glad they are about it right now ;) Personally, I'm excited about what the final release will bring. If it turns out to be no better than the demo (which I highly doubt) then I will say so, but I'm not about to condemn the whole thing based on what I've seen so far.I'll finish by simply saying thanks to ACES for this look at what is to come.KP
August 11, 200619 yr Mike, can you tell us what display settings to plug into FSX to roughly simulate FS9's level of graphical details? It's hard to eyeball it and I'd really like to see what performance is like with a similar level of detail. Also, is it true that the visibility slider of FS9 has gone the way of dodo with FSX? Does the engine change visibility dynamically according to available processing power, or is it always the same on every machine (excluding what effect weather has on visibility)?
August 11, 200619 yr If its called a seaplane then it only has floats, if it has wheels inside the floats its called an amphibian.Press Y to slew and yoke over to the water (or take off in a wheeled plane and then change to the seaplane).
August 11, 200619 yr Hey guys,Ran the demo again yesterday afternoon with my son and I at the helm (He's two years old by the way :)) And here are my impressions of the demo after running it a second time. Again my comp specs at a P4 2.4, 6600GT, 1GB RAM.Demo Settings at Medium Low with Low 2.0 water. Aircraft at Medium high, car traffic at 33%. Fair weather, 3pm in the afternoon. Terrain radius at low-mid. AI traffic very low. The good: In the 2D cockpit and VC, the demo is smooth as silk for me. No stutters. FPS is locked and holding steady the entire time at 20.0 FPS. <---wow, pretty good considering I don't have an uber. The bad: Ground textures still EXTREMELY blurry. They take forever to load even if the sim is smooth. Get the occasional CTD while changing settings in mid flight (seen this problem here on the forum). Spot view causes some pauses. So, after reading the reports of performances issues, I was happy to see my computer actually holding its own in mid air. Blake
August 11, 200619 yr and well you should - I've always said that even with MS' concern for the widest user base, the sim should ultimately continue to evolve, It's up to us to move with it if/as we can.btw - thanks to you and the team for all the hard work - it shows.regards,Markhttp://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a319/mar.../sup_banner.jpgXPHomeSP2/FS9.1/3.2HT/1024mb/X700pro256 Regards, Mark
August 11, 200619 yr Tried, flown and deleted!Very poor and not a proper example of whether to buy it or not. After flying the Baron I loaded up FS9 and found that my scenery is better at St Marteen. The water didn't look bad but the same texture is available with Flight Environment and Active Sky 6. August 11, 200619 yr i liked the water its improved over FS9, the forests look like real forests when maxed and the tree models are suberb, ai cars are fantastic and i saw 2 whales coming to the surface to take air in the mission 2. wet runway is very nice looking indeed. but have anyone else tried snow feature. the snow looks like 2 curtains with white dots.the curtains are being wrapped around the airplane, hope this will be improved in the final release. i live in finland so it will be snowing here a lot in the winter time.happy landings to all
