Your First Impressions of FSX DEMO POST HERE!

I know this is just a demo, and it probably was disabled, or not implemented yet, but it's enough to question it. Has anyone noticed there is no Modules folder? Without that or some other method, the addon developers won't be able to enhance FSX's capabilities via DLL's like they do in FS9. Also I wanted to see how it would handle high traffic, so I tried adding my ai taffic and my traffic.bgl (UT) I didn't think it would work, but after it complaining about some duplicate entries on startup, FSX loaded fine. I started at TNCM at 13:20 local time, and there was a AA 757 getting ready for departure along with other AI aircraft sitting at their gates. After Taxi the 557 made a beautiful departure. Departure climbs seem to be at a greater angle and more realistic looking than FS9. A couple of minutes later a USAIR 757 was cleared for landing, and made a beautiful landing. One thing though, it ATC immediately told the 757 to contact ground on touchdown, and cleared me for takeoff while the 757 was still on rollout. Obviously a bug. I then tried using the FS9 AFCAD to get more parking places, and reloaded. This time landings was more unstable and exhibited the skimming on the ground/water approach from a distance. I'm going to take that AFCAD out to see if that is the problem. Also in case anybody hasn't hit it yet, there is a time limit on running this demo, looks to be about 1 hour, after that it thanks you for playing and kicks you out. You can restart it though.

Thanks

Someone posted and mentioned many things weren't implemented in this demo and that this demo is nothing like the near final product. That these things will vastly improve performance issues but due to people's driver differences would cause stability issues if put in. That security and marketing had a big effect on the demo release. Or something to that effect. I don't post much here and have been a member of this community for a little more than a year so I realize my post probably carries little. I got OKAY performance with the demo and I'm a little skeptical but after looking at the official recommended specs, the thing is...I believe him.

OK, since this is a demo i'm not going to say alot but... as someone who wasn't going to buy FSX for a while, I have totally changed my mind.I was very impressed with this "sneek peek" of what is comming in October!I will most likely keep FS9 on my system along side FSX for some time however. But after trying the demo, I will now pick up a copy of the deluxe version when it comes out.Happy Simming!Scott :-)Gamming System Specs: (Built this one myself)AMD Athlon-64 3000+ (Overclocked to 2.35ghz)Gigabyte K8NS nForce3-250 Chipset 8x AGP Main Board2GB DDR400 PC3200 Memory (400mhz)2 - 160GB 7200 rpm Hard Drives 16x DVD-ROM Audigy 2ZS Gammer Sound Card (Set at FULL acceleration)5.1 Channel Surround Sound SpeakersNvidia Graphic Cards:256MB GeForce-5700 8X AGP Video (Overclocked) with CGA and DVI256MB GeForce-5500 PCI Video (Overclocked)TRI Monitors 2 - 17" CRTS & 1 - 17" LCDCotytech Gaming CaseCH Products Yoke, Rudder Pedals, Throttle QuadrantSaitek Cyborg Gold Joystic for Helo's & Stick equipped aircrafteDimensional Force Feedback HeadsetsSaitek Eclipse KeyboardWindows XP Pro SP2Home Network for using the Instructor StationFS9 Sliders maxed with other settings at their best quality positions.Antalasing: 4XAnistropic Filtering: 4XResolution: 1024 X 768 32bitTexture load speed: 200Average FPS: 25 (Locked at 25)Gamming System Specs: (Built this one myself)AMD Athlon-64 3000+ (Overclocked to 2.35ghz)Gigabyte K8NS nForce3-250 Chipset 8x AGP Main Board2GB DDR400 PC3200 Memory (400mhz)2 - 160GB 7200 rpm Hard Drives 16x DVD-ROM Audigy 2ZS Gammer Sound Card (Set at FULL acceleration)5.1 Channel Surround Sound SpeakersNvidia Graphic Cards:256MB GeForce-5700 8X AGP Video (Overclocked) with VGA and DVI256MB GeForce-5500 PCI Video (Overclocked)TRI Monitors 2 - 17" CRTS & 1 - 17" LCDCotytech Gaming CaseCH Products Yoke, Rudder Pedals, Throttle QuadrantSaitek Cyborg Gold Joystic for Helo's & Stick equipped aircrafteDimensional Force Feedback HeadsetsSaitek Eclipse KeyboardWindows XP Pro SP2Home Network for using the Instructor StationFS9 Sliders maxed with other settings at their best quality positions.Antalasing: 4XAnistropic Filtering: 4XResolution: 1024 X 768 32bitTexture load speed: 200Average FPS: 25 (Locked at 25)

Aces release a demo for all us to test and we still have people complaining, talk about been ungrateful and selfish. And honestly comparing a 640 MB demo to the 12 GB final product is well pretty stupid don't you think?

System: amd 2.2ghz, Geforce 6600 GT, 1 gb ram.Started out on medium settings, the ultralight was a joy to fly, the scenerey was fair, but I like the little things such as the cockpit zoom, going from .60 zoom to 1.00 zoom to focus in on the instruments was a neat enhancement, love the smoothness of it.Water looks awesome at 2x.low to 2x.high, I noticed no performance issue with it.I didn't use it much as I'm prepping for a newborn tomorrow, (induction or C-section for my cranky overdue wife), but I was able to max out all the sliders under the scenery (except autogen) maintained 20 fps, except when looking in the direction of an airport, it dropped a bit with ai settings set on medium-low.system came to a halt with autogen or Ai settings moved up, but the other graphics settings had little performance effect.Loved the rain and fog, seems they did some work on that, plus the head latency really added to the immersion. Snow is another issue, that funny circle design in front of the plain was appearing.Overall, as this is an early demo, we should all be smiling come October despite certain individual aspects that may not have been upgraded, and my hat is off to the FS folks for releasing a demo despite the potential torrent of criticism. It seems most are happy with it though and have the capability to understand this is indeed still a work in progess. One question, will the demo be upgraded in the future after the release? Just a curious question, I've seen some software companies do this.Well done.Ian.

I got off to a slow start. I downloaded it last night and needed to get to bed when I finished the DL. Then there was that thing about having to go to work today. I got home this afternoon and installed it but it told me to remove it and DL/install DX 9.0c and try again. Did that. No workie. I removed and installed for the 3rd time but then a contractor was here to give me an estimate on a new deck. 2 hours later I got to fire it up for the 1st time but my wife was turning purple beause dinner was getting cold. But once past that it worked fine. With default settings the coast lines are no better than FS04 but the Autogen, textures, & mesh are much improved. With the sliders maxed everything is drop dead gorgeous but frames are unworkable.I need to try to find a working compromise. But at max I found some very neat stuff... like how you can look down over water and see the bottom just like it really is in that area... not that I've been there in the past 20 years but I do have a good memory for such neat things. :)When we have optomized code and enough horsepower to use max settings this is going to be one very cool sim!

Hi!I have too downloaded the demo and at the first start it crashed so easily like no Flight Sim yet before (and this was just to switch from full screen to windowed mode!). And when I tried to start it again, it crashed second time and after third time not flying I restarted the comp and then finally I could fly. As expected, FS needs really big pipe for loading textures. Textures are loading way too much time and looking at the aircraft from spot view (which btw I hate that slowly moving and setting around at wanted point, even with locked spot view!) it took the #### out of time to load the textures for aircraft... The ground textures were also loading and around TNCM I never saw clean textures like on that COCO airport or sth.CRJ700 is weird here, more like jet fighter then CRJ, flight dynamics not so much more realistic than in FS9 on which many of my friends are very dissapointed. Even CRJ has some wrong modelling at gear doors, says my friend, RL pilot on CRJ...Okay, one has already noticed that we have now also DXT5 or DDS textures (which btw are recognizable by free Irfan View image viewer).Folders are different organized, no more modules folder, no more aircraft folder. Well at least the last one is hidden between simobjects folder.I tried to load 3rd party aircraft, the first one was beautiful SOKO Galeb G-2 where instrument panel dissappeared (and VC too), cabin window was black, all other things were nice.PMDG 737 NG on my big dissapointment does not work. Okay the aircraft is loaded, it is visible but at least with PMDG textures is transparent so one could see objects like fan blades, cargo hold and object behind the cabin. Forget the cockpit, nothing works there! No switches, no displays, and after installing the FSUIPC 3.48 in Modules folder together with some PMDG dll's, it just says I need to have FSUIPC 2.90 or higher twice, then FS X just crashes...PSS A320 was a little surprise for me because it worked! Although I couldn't see the overhead panel, everything else, including FMC worked. Weird thing was when I wanted to open the overhead, the plane fell on its "butt" but overhead was nowhere to see. But glass cockpit just worked, throttle detents too, GPWS, altitude callouts during landing... Beutiful!I installed FSUIPC 3.48 in the root folder and also in Modules folder, which I created. I guess somehow FSUIPC works with FS X demo... :)Also I have installed FlyTampa Vienna. I am happy that developers have acknowledged our beggings for Scenery Library menu which was present up to FS2004 where it dissappeared, is back again! But trying to load LOWW... hem, it stopped loading at 83% and then I could just wait for TimeBomb to fire up! Yes, time is limited at about 30 minutes for demo. I guess that LOWW is out of demo perimeter and this is the main reason, why it can't be loaded. I hope some of You have some true FS9 scenery for TNCM/TNCE... Try to load the scenery. At this point I can say I am a little bit worried that some addons (hopefully only some) will not work just like PMDG. If there are too many add-ons, this would be a great dissapointment - one buys for several hundred dollars/euros add-ons which will not work in FS X. I can't imagine if the connection to VATSIM/IVAO would not work!Gauges are more like XML style than the old one. If the old style gauge needs to be loaded, then FS X asks if You really want to install it and after confirming it, it asks You if FS shall put it on a list of safe gauges... Thank god that PSS Airbuses have only a few gauges, what about some addons that have zillions of such gauges?!The weather themes as said before are the same as before, the new thing is rain and ice on the ground but they are just visualisations. If You brake too hard on at least rain (I haven't tried ice yet!), then the aircraft normally stops like on dry surface. Ergh.On the other side I am pleased with water which is really beautifull but landing on it is by my opinion still different than on the real stuff. Maybe I am wrong here, don't know.Clouds are the same, while mesh resolution can be adjusted to up to 7 metres! Jippie!Regarding the weather I have found one bug (out of some more). I wanted to have altitude in feet, other in metric system. But why the #### temperature is in Fahrenheit?! In Europe it is so strange scale, we are used to temperatures in Celsius.Well after all this is only a demo. I hope Microsoft developers are listetning and reading impressions on forums and they will correct weird stuff up till release. As far as I am concerned, I don't mind if the release will be postponed but MS bosses have decided that October is the release. Then I think we'll have to wait for the first patch. And please guys, do something on the aerodynamics side, don't forget rotary wings' guys!!! Best regards,Goran BrumenFS Slovenija teamhttp://slovenia.avsim.netAthlon 64 3200, 1GB DDR500 RAM by Kingston, nForce 3 Ultra 250, GeForce 6600GT, 200GB SATA Maxtor

My very first impression - FS has merged with the Far Cry graphics engine! The water is absolutely gorgous but the autogen buildings look kinda cheap. Changing weather settings had minimal impact on FPS, but then again the coverage was knowhere near as dense as what AS6 paints for me now. Looks superb with all sliders to the right, but it will take a few years of hardware upgrades to improve the 5 FPS I was seeing at times to a more playable level ;-).I did a side by side compare of FS2004 with FSX on my two systems in my sig below, which perform relatively similarly with both FS versions. I had FS2004 set with all sliders to the right, 100% UT traffic and FS Global forming the landscape. On FSX I set all the settings sliders Ultra High.I have to say that FS2004 held up pretty well against its new brother. In the FPS department, FS2004 absolutely spanked FSX, giving me a minimum of 45 FPS on the ground and 60+ in the air, whereas FSX was gracing me with just 13 FPS and 25+ respectively. Autogen density and mesh coverage was about the same. FSX pulled into the lead on the visual department with that water and objects in motion. Interestingly, if I reduced the sliders in FSX to bring the graphics back to the best level FS2004 could muster, I was still only getting half the FPS I could pull in FS2004. In any case, it is great to finally have a hands on play with the newest in the FS line. I'm looking to the final release!Gary
