Active Sky Live but P3D Summer

Featured Replies

I'm trying to fly with P3D summer but when I load AS4 with live weather and it's snowing I would get snow on the ground, is there anyway to still get live weather and P3D summer without without a white covered snow scenery ?

Do I understand you correctly?

You set up live weather with snow but don't want snow in the sim???

Live weather is the weather which is currently present in the real world.

If you set Active Sky to historic weather (sim time), then you can set a summer day in your simulator, e.g. 1st of August and you will get also the Active Sky weather for 1st of August at your loaded sim location.

But there are also regions where it could snow even on 1st of August 😉

I would suggest using historical weather in Active Sky and selecting the date in Active Sky which is consistent with the day you have set in your sim.

Flying in a summer season with live winter weather, perhaps isn't the best

What I mean is that I would like to have the weather conditions match but with a summer setting, lest say my live weather is heavy clouds and snowing, but I wanted a P3D summer, I would like it to be heavy clouds and raining. If I put it on historical it may be miserable weather outside but sunny in the sim. It seems that live weather will win over the sims summer setting.

If Active Sky reads snow in the active METAR string , then snow is what you'll get.  That is the point of 'live' weather.  I'm not sure if you can change that

Like it was pointed out before, you can pick a historical date and simulate that weather within Active Sky. But if you pick live weahter you get what you get and you won't be able to turn snow into rain just because you want to fly in summer textures. If it is -5C degrees out and snowing heavily you will get the appropriate textures of course, why wouldn't you.

I don't quite get why you fly with live weather but not in the right time or season. It's just not about summer textures, it's also about where the sun is in a relation to it's yearly cycle. That influences the correct lighting as well.

Spot-on, unless 'live' has a totally different conatation to what it actually means. That' why i use AS to give me the real weather as is at a particular airport, routing, etc.

I want it to rain, but I dont want streets to be wet.

Use custom weather with historical time settings in P3D then.

Active Sky does not affect the ground textures, it only affects the sky.  You can certainly pick a date in the Spring/Summer in your sim scenario (which will give you those seasonal ground textures), and then use the current weather in ActiveSky.  As I understand it, ASP4 only uses the time in the current wx forecast to produce the weather...it does not consider the date.

The problem is that heavy clouds and raining is entirely different weather from heavy clouds and snowing. Air currents are different. Precipitation levels are different. This is why you rarely see a tornado in a blizzard. If you somehow managed to get AS to change snow to rain, you still wouldn't have realistic summer weather to fly through, so as long as you're unrealistic anyway you might as well just punch up historic weather from last June and call it good.

Are you familiar with ActiveSky's interface?    As others alluded to, simply enable historical weather in ActiveSky, and pick a date like July 10 or whatever.  You'll get summer weather.  If you're in Australia, pick Jan 10.

Anyway, problem solved.  / end thread
