For those ranting about the fact that FSX contains pylons and hoops challenges:

Folks, you have NO IDEA what's in store with FSX, aside from the few tidbits that've been made public. For all you who're forming "conclusions" based on scanty data points, I would point out that's known as a "hasty generalization," one of the deadly sins of fallacious logic. :)Relax and have patience; all will be revealed in due course, and some here are going to feel very silly... *:-*

"I suspect those who are don't so much have a problem with the missions themselves, but the fact that development time was spent on them rather than more realistic ATC procedures or proper wear and tear simulation and failures or what will you have."I agree that would explain the anxiety of the "As real as it gets" folks. My take on this is.. Many of the folks at MS Fsim development team are real world pilots themselves. I tend to trust them that they would not do these things (Games) at the expense of "As real as it gets" even if the marketing minions push for it (for economic sustenance of FSIM itself). I am sure..they would take care of us.I tend to look at these missions...not as what mission they are going to put out..but rather..what we can do with that feature/technology for "As real as it gets" experiences. I am looking forward to Addon vendors to be creative in using this and providing for some "as real as it gets" missions even if MS put out only game like missions. Its also for the fsim community to take ownership of this "Technology" of "branching, events and triggers" to do what we want of it for the purpose of "As real as it gets".Manny

It's truly amazing how one sided, self sided and closed minded some are being. Many seem to think by adding missions they are losing something, you are not. Mike (tdragger) has stated everything you have in FS9, you will have in FSX, so if you enjoy FS9, then what is the problem? Open your eyes and mind and realise that by adding "ANY" content, it gives us and payware developers a few more things to work with for addons. Think about the animation possibilities alone after seeing the trailers and reading Sebby's blog, lots of new options. personally I am looking forward to taking one of the Deltasim ships in the library out sailing with the new water.Gotta love those that think that just because they don't like something, then everybody else must feel the same. I happen to like some of the default aircraft, but doesn't bother me at all if someone, "gasp" doesn't!Seems like many here spend more time on the forums that in FS, what a shame.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International

I have to totally agree with the above rant and here's a short one of my own.I am so freaking sick of coming on here and reading you old codgers doing nothing but complaining about how much you hate the stuff in FS. If you hate it so much DON'T USE IT AND LEAVE THE REST OF US IN PEACE!! I'm so sorry that the lightning doesn't come out of the screen and shock you or that you think the missions are stupid and for little kids. I don't really enjoy sitting there for 45 minutes, clicking virtual buttons to make virtual engines start up so I can report back to my virtual airline and my virtual boss. I like the engines running when I start it up, I like to quickly program my FMC and take off. I don't mind it when ATC vectors me all over the country to set up my landing. I'm a patient person and am grateful to the FS Staff for supplying me with years and years of entertainment. The rest of you can eat it.Jared

I would however lay my money down on FSPassengers stock if they were public :) That program is going to explode with features in FSX and beyond I'll bet!

>I don't really enjoy sitting there for 45 minutes, clicking>virtual buttons to make virtual engines start up so I can>report back to my virtual airline and my virtual boss. I like>the engines running when I start it up, I like to quickly>program my FMC and take offHence why you will never appreciate "As real as it gets".Like I said before - i don't care if there are missions in FSX or not, I would probably never use them anyway, just like I don't fly the stock aircraft that comes with FS just coz they arn't "As real as it gets" - Get it ?Another poster hit the nail on the head when he said that the main rant was that the FS team seem to be spending loads of time on adding "fun" elements ( they have the right to i guess ) to attract more users.... but.....How many improvements will we see on the features that left much to be desired in fs9 - ATC, Weather etc etc....my uneducated guess is - NOT MANYIf we ask tdragger or Pixelpoke whether this or that have been fixed or improved...the answer most of the time is : No, or: I don't think so, or: not this time.....see the pattern ?

I'm assuming pilots in real life just don't fly the plane, not to mention the fact that there are many types of pilot procedures including rescue, racing, airline, general aviation, commuter, acrobatics, endurance and charter. Also, I agree that many in this forum enjoy everything connected with aviation in real life including meeting flight deadlines, avoiding weather, filing flight plans, renting a plane, timesharing a plane, going to flight school and starting a career, and the aforementioned list. With all that said, where do missions possibly detract from any of that, if anything they may allow, depending on flexibility and which variables can be interchanged between 3rd party software or the mission editor, for most of the types of piloting or career simulations include airline pilots following real world procedures as I believe Geofa pointed out. Flying through hoops or pylons takes some skill and I don't consider acrobatics a game. Talk to the blue angels or Patti Wagstaff. There is a whole other world of aviation besides airline pilots which I'm hoping missions can exploit and bring some enjoyment to those who do not want to fly from New York to Japan in a 747.Ian.

Not to mention that the aces team has more than one programmer and I'm pretty sure they are all very adept at multitasking. I believe PC-12 is working on missions and they have other people working on the other aspects of the sim.Ian.

and I'm tired of people wanting to turn everything into a shoot 'm up game where the only thing that counts is the number of frags you get.

Still to early to complain yet though about what has or has not been improved. Many features still have not been revealed so complaining about this and that is pretty much pointless until, and I'll stress that, until the final feature set is released, then everyone can moan and complain about why they didn't do this and that. And I'll stress also that the FS team most likely is not just working on one feature at a time which leads me to believe the whole team has not been sitting around just designing mission capability. It's the same thing every release, conspiracy theories abound and the aces team shot JFK.Ian.

Yeah, I guess we'll see WHEN it is announced..... don't know what the BIG secret is though...

>Because of people like you, the time has come where missions>for the kids will take priority over procedures. and then,>it's just another game. >>remember the need for speed series? it devolved. >>remember midtown madness? it devolved>>remember train simulator? it was cancelled so that resources>can be diverted to the xbox>Well I see your point too. But I don't think that will happen to FS--and if it does, some other company will pull flight simulation back away from the arcade abyss. To begin with, MSFS is already starting at a much more sophisticated level than Need for Speed, for example. The greatest thing about MSFS has been the expandability of the barebones sim.Rhett
