Landing Light 'Triangle' in FSX?

Featured Replies

Quick question for the MSFS dev team:Will the horrible landing / taxi light 'triangle' effect be eliminated in FSX?It really spoils the immersion factor when you are descending in poor vis at night and the white triangles appear from AI and your own aircraft. On a similar topic, will the visibility levels be better in FSX instead of the current sudden jump from grey to blue sky that we currently have? Thanks,Glenn

Good questions, and things I would also like to know.

>will the visibility levels be better in>FSX instead of the current sudden jump from grey to blue sky>that we currently have?In another discussion it was mentioned that this has been improved but not totally eliminated if my memory serves me correctly.edit: here is the article (not discussion :)) at simhq http://www.simhq.com/_all/all_020a.htmlHere is the snippet of info: 'I already noticed the improved clouds and haze effects. I was told that the overcast cloud problem in the current version will be addressed. It may not get resolved totally, but improvements should be significant. Same story for the current visibility transition issues. We should get a more gradual change between varying values of prevailing visibility.'

The percentage of you seeing those "triangle" bitmap light texture at night is really high.It is said before, that the only light sources in FSX will be the Sun and Moon, therefore real-time light rendering will not be used for aircrafts. It is also said before, that the lighting in FSX will be "improved".It makes you wonder. :-)

I think that it is also worth noting the "Landing Lights Illuminate Ground" setting that was shown in the E3 photos of the settings screens. I would surmise that some kind of change in how landing lights work has been implemented. Of course, I could be completely wrong, as well. :-)

>It is said before, that the only light sources in FSX will be>the Sun and Moon, therefore real-time light rendering will not>be used for aircrafts.I thought that was the situation for FS9 (well it is) but I don't recall reading anywhere that this is the situation for FSX.

I believe it was "tdragger" who said about the Sun & Moon. But he didn't mention anything about aircraft landing lights, etc, it was only my own thought.

Saw that too JC and my hope is it has been totally redone.Eric

from what you can see in the menu settings you can turn off the landing light effects on the ground ;)

Exactly what I was thinking about when I saw this thread. I guess if FSX will have the white triangle issue, we can always turn the landing lights off.David

Well, the text in the dialog has been totally redone anyway. ;)

You know, Mike, you do a nice job of messing with our tea leaf reading. ;-)

Is this really that important? Strange.
