New MS Flight Sim shown at E3 - Updated Information

What I'm hoping for is the new flightsim to bring in a whole new generation of simmers. Teenagers and 20 year olds hopefully hop in and breathe new life into the hobby. The hobby has stagnated significantly since the FS9/FSX days. Bringing in a new, young millennial/genZ audience should push developers out of their comfort zones and maybe attract new developers too.

I always found flight sim almost nepotistic in a way, with a specific set of developers ruling the masses. If MSFS truly disrupts the model and makes flight simming mainstream then we may see the beginning of the end of the 'monopolies' that exist in the hobby, which IMO would be the best thing to happen for flight simulation in the long run.

FS will never go mainstream but the FS may give interested kids a chance to get into it. Imagine beeing 15 and interested into simming. You dont have a chance. All the addons and hardware needed is over kids budget

If MS can incorporate a story/airline mode and more missions I can see it being reasonably popular. Not Forza or Halo level but enough to have a good, healthy following. All it will take is one famous twitch streamer to hop on the FS bandwagon for the game to reach the masses.

Which is why a $500 Project Scarlett Xbox and a game library subscription alternative to just outright purchase for a sim might just be the way forward.

AMD Ryzen 5800X3D; MSI RTX 3080 Ti ; 32GB Corsair 3200 MHz; ASUS VG35VQ 35" (3440 x 1440)
Fulcrum One yoke; Thrustmaster TCA Captain Pack Airbus edition; MFG Crosswind rudder pedals; miniCockpit FCU; CPFlight MCP 737; Logitech FIP x3; TrackIR

MSFS; Fenix A320; A2A PA-24; HPG H145; PMDG 737-600; AIG; RealTraffic; PSXTraffic; FSiPanel; REX AccuSeason Adv; FSDT GSX Pro; FS2Crew RAAS Pro; FS-ATC Chatter

The integration into XBOX program will surely help agreed. In the end we will all benefit from a bigger audience. Bigger audience = bigger profit = better and more addons

One way to confirm the Microsoft is on the right track here is the stir that it is causing.

This genre is just ripe for disruption and innovation.

Yes you do, because a programmer would NOT attempt to compare Forza racing game with a Flight Simulator.  Two very different designs.

Cheers, Rob.

His point was that..."new games are optimized better for new hardware".

However, it is clear that you looked to skirt around the issue. The fact that he used Forza to illustrate his point does not disqualify his statement. Cheers.

Well the stir is being caused really by users in the forums, all they did was releasing a trailer with less than 2 minutes of content

Trailer… And several interviews… And updating the homepage reflecting they are paying attention.

There is plenty to be very excited about here already.

The “stir”  I was really referring to is all the developers hunting around for their copy of “who moved my cheese“

Hopefully this type of forum is just one source for Microsoft.

There are so many positive and forward-looking ways to be excited about this that I don’t want them to base too much of what they do on anything said in forums based upon realities of the past.

Are you serious?  Fuel calcs are a critical component to a 777's flight parameters ... maybe a "simulator" is NOT what you really want?  Sounds like some of you are more interested in the XBOX game like aspect and less on simulation, which is fine, to each his or her own.  But my understanding from the limited information is that Microsoft are going to focus on the "simulator" aspect with an SDK.

If you folks are looking for high FPS in P3D or XP to be similar to Forza, then the easiest way to get your 60-120 FPS desires is to make the P3D/XP LOD the same as Forza ... which is the lowest setting possible on the graphics options.  Then you'll at least have a similar rendering distance that you would see in Forza (about 2nm).  However Forza still doesn't load the entire globe/planet like P3D does as it has to have a variable horizon as far as the eye/haze allows in all directions.

I think many commercial content providers would love to see ONE platform that does it all, it would make our lives easier as we wouldn't need to learn several different SDKs (FSX, P3D, XP, AF2, DCS) in order to provide content.  So we have far more vested interested in seeing MS make 2020 a huge success.  BUT, to ignore what DTG and MS has attempted to do to content providers in the past is foolish and has NOTHING to do with being optimistic or pessimistic ... it's the reality MS and DTG created, and not one of commercial content providers.

Cheers, Rob.

LOL what? I am dead serious. As if I would care if my calculated fuel is off by 2% after a couple of hours if its not eating up performance. I am all into simming since almost 30years but to a reasonable degree. PMDG performance is bad compared to Aerosoft and there is a reason for that a reason 99% of users dont care for.

"Maybe not but wasn’t Flight just limited to Hawaii?"

About FLIGHT… I have used FLIGHT from the day it came out. I'm a GA flyer "a Bush pilot lol" and I want the best scenery I can get. I run a 4K video card to a 50" 4K TV as a monitor and I have great visual, and yes I have the whole World to fly in.

Precisely!

Just 90 seconds of footage was enough to unleash the pent-up frustrations of current sims and show what the user base is demanding, i.e. 2020 gaming as opposed to the stuff from 2006 with a few improvements here and there.

You have to acknowledge that a brand new forum page here, this thread running at 17 pages (and counting), threads posted at every flight sim-related forum, Facebook groups, sub-reddits into the hundreds of responses all show a level of excitement that proves that the current offerings are not enough.
Was it at this level when P3D / XP / AFS were announced? No.

@F737NG

yep. Exactly.

MASSIVE uptick in interest, including in places where this whole genre was essentially nonexistent to people anymore.
