July 11, 20196 yr I’d bet my house this will have volumetric clouds. In a world where games that have no flying in them have volumetric, dynamic clouds, there’s no chance this won’t.

In fact if I was betting on this I would say those are not volumetric clouds, and look closer to the 2d billboard ones we have in p3d and XP. It's conclusive. Anyone that has played FSW knows TruSky when they see it. Edited July 12, 20196 yr by bonchie

There are plenty of good volumetric cloud simulations about - here are just a few: https://youtu.be/8Aeyafaz7Jo https://youtu.be/v4cu349VTlw https://youtu.be/yNiCl6h6icc https://youtu.be/rkSBIx_rZjc i7-14700k | Asus ROG STRIX Z790-F Gaming WIFI | 32GB DDR5 RAM | MSI RTX 4080 Super | WD Black SN850X 1TB & 2TB | Corsair HX1000i ATX3.0 | MSI MAG401QR 40" monitor | Win 11 Pro 64-bit | Meta Quest 3

As for XP, don't worry it will always have proper flight models, physics and realism. The graphics engine is getting upgraded. The Vulkan is landing. This is not true - towards the end of the video a plane travels through two clouds where are clearly volumentric. Also the clouds absorb light which is evidenced in several scenes - if you look closely the shadows on the clouds appear to accurately reflect the position of the sun. There is quite a bit of evidence to support the fact these clouds are not 2D but that doesn't of course rule out 2D clouds completely in MSFS 2020.

But I half expect they will cut corners and not fully deliver i.e. with 2d clouds. I hope I am wrong and it gives XP a real run for the money. Well you are right to be apprehensive - there arn't too many sims with volumentic clouds, especially showing the details the way the trailer has them. I think it's the most impressive aspect of the trailer and seeing how this will be delivered will go a long way to the community 'trusting' Microsoft to deliver a next iteration of Microsoft Flight Simulator. If they have to go back to 2D clouds then that would kill the momentum they have achieved from the trailer so it will be interesting to see develops going forward. My view is that they have 3D clouds but it will cost you in terms of performance.

It's not perfect but in time there is big potential. It's one of the top ten Key things MS Must do. http://youtube.com/c/Greazer

XEnviro + grain: 10fps on my computer FSW+Trusky: 40fps on my computer The big potential you are talking about is that with time (years from now), we will have more and more powerful hardware and XEnviro will begin playable...

It's still in front of Marseille. 🙂 You can check on Google Earth and you'll find the 3d version of it. Chock 1.1: "The only thing that whines louder than a jet engine is a flight simmer."
July 13, 20196 yr @france89 If you read what I said carefully, I was talking about 1:07 in the trailer, so yes, it is Alcatraz. The castle in front of Marseille is called Chateau d'If and it's very famous. I don't need to go to Google Earth to see the 3D version, I have been to Marseille several times, thank you.
