July 2, 20196 yr FS2020 will not look like that worldwide. Many locations will have boring stock textures. MS want to keep you in Dream Land and not think about that. http://youtube.com/c/Greazer

Same goes for weather, enhanced by third-party REX . I doubt the difference would be that striking. I think the real advantage of the new sim would be obvious if the default package will already start from the same level of FSX+ORBX+REX+A2A+etc, at a fraction of the cost and a fraction of the headache ...! But I am not that optimistic. I agree with your overall premise, but I would probably use P3D with all those add-ons or XP11 with similar add-ons as the comparison to the new MSFS. I give the MS marketing department credit though (or was it Asobo?), for including that brief shot of the giraffes in the trailer. An image guaranteed to light up speculation that it would be like that everywhere, and not just in the big cities.😉 X-Plane and Microsoft Flight Simulator on Windows 10 i7 6700 4.0 GHz, 32 GB RAM, GTX 1660 ti, 1920x1200 monitor

Yes, but they will be NEW textures, probably higher resolution, and there won't be the problem with textures in vertical surfaces which was already solved with Microsoft Flight. I'm hoping for better meshes as well. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

I wish people would realize that it's unlikely that MS would get back into this after 13 years away if there wasn't an entirely new angle on all of these questions that they thought they could better tackle now with a fresh approach and new technologies at the core. I'm fairly positive they aren't just making a "new FSX 2020" that looks a bit better but at its core it's all the same 'ol, same 'ol. This is not some "money machine" space like a Candy Crush game or anything. MS are reentering with a purpose and a vision, I'm sure of it. Edited July 2, 20196 yr by irrics

I wonder what market size they plan to address with this new sim. They obviously have all the data on the earlier sims. I've always wondered how many serious simmers (as we are) there are out there as an addressable market. Anyone have any idea? Rick

Rick A couple of years ago during a tête-à-tête with a major developer I was told somewhere between 150-200 000. FSX sold over 2 million copies 10+ years ago, not counting the Steam version. I'm guessing a couple of million sales is realistic if they successfully port it over to Xbox, but to make money these days I'm quite sure they'll need to sell plenty of DLC too.
