August 18, 20196 yr Not a big deal for some, but for me one thing that turns me off of X-Plane is the time it takes to load up. Hopefully this new MSFS will be better.

Hopefully this new MSFS will be better. Well thats the nice thing about photogrammetry as you'll get back some performance and loading times as the scenery will be streamed in. I'm not sure it'll be too different to FSX though - any gains in optimisation will probably be offset by the higher fidelity visuals, but we'll have to wait and see.
August 19, 20196 yr Here are 4 things Microsoft could do for this problem: (I hate those loading screens too) - the ability to replace the loading screen by the screenshot of your choice - those screenshots could be randomize to get a different loading screen each time you start the sim - the screenshots can switch from one to another in diaporama style - the best option would be to have access to flight planning, read weather reports, airport maps...while the flight is loading in the backround.

August 19, 20196 yr The number one reason for slow loading is bad coding. ... which also includes missing files (gauges, textures, effects, sounds) and unnecessary files left behind. EVERY addon for FSX I download goes through a "cleaning" process before I launch them! I think it will be a good idea for FS2020 to have a information webpage about Coding Standards for third party devs, with strict rules to follow. August 19, 20196 yr I have huge loading times in P3DV44 too. I think that's largely due to the amount of ORBX scenery I use, because a clean P3D installation loads rather quickly. In any case, I can live with it, since once my flight is loaded, I do not change to another scenery very often. I read somewhere that LM was doing something about it, maybe already in v4.5? Anyone? P3D45, 8700K, RTX3080Ti, 32 GB, HDD 3 + 6 TB, SSD 0.5 TB Warthog HOTAS, Honeycomb Bravo, MFG pedals, Reverb G2

August 20, 20196 yr Loading times have never bothered me in P3D, then again I like flying heavy metal and long haul. The 2 min loading time is nothing compared to the 12 hour flight. Specs: 11900K (5ghz), 64GB ram 3600mhz, RTX 3080 ti
August 20, 20196 yr I think the load times in current sims are reasonable. You should be using a SSD by now. The "regular" SATA III's are super cheap. I bought a 1TB off amazon for around 140 bucks last month! I've got a lot of addons in P3D v4.5 and that takes about 45 seconds to get from the start screen into the sim from a fresh start. XP11 takes about a minute (I also have tons of scenery for that sim) | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
