Hmmmm.... Competition is good and AMD is, once again, trying to best the Intel line of CPU's.  Wonder how this CPU compares to the Intel 9900K and KS while running P3D?

That's quite a processor , its going to be difficult/impossible to go with intel for the new build I need for MSFS 2020, its too bad  there is no alternate to W10.  I am forced to live with that on laptops but on the 3 Dev Sim desktop machines I use W7 still .

With latest BIOS on my gigabyte X570 Pro, the 3700X is bench-marking very well against the 9700K and 9900K. Multicore perf is better whilst single core speed is only a fraction lower. Have to say im very happy with it. The 3950X looks a right beast though!

In the UK AMD are more expensive then Intel at the moment and the 3950 is not even listed at the moment may be over £700 no cooler included. 

Wow, I'd like to see a build with that run P3D

It will probably still be cheaper to buy a 9900kf, which is, arguably, still the better gaming processor. That said, if you also use your system for things other than gaming (like rendering, for example), the 3950x looks unbeatable at the moment.

AMD have taken the performance lead in some workloads, but not all.  Certainly not any flight sim currently on the market.  If you have evidence otherwise, please post it.

i have a 3700x 32gig 4x8 3600mhz c16 pared with a galax 2080ti, its ok for them how not OC 

the ipc is quite god , but if you run the AMD at max stable OC and do the same with the 9900k -ks the Ryzen is not close it performs more like 4,6-4,7 ghz Intel that what you get cant compare it to a +5.4 ghz 9900k

It's a lot better than it has been in a long time, but you're right, Intel still gets the win in most games and sims.  

The good thing about all this is Intel will respond, and the consumer wins.  Technology needs competition to move forward, and the CPU wars are doing the trick once again.  Looking forward to Intel's next salvo. 

I am no "no-fan-guy" to either Intel or AMD. Obviously, in the past years we have gone with Intel because they were the only ones who had processors for our flight needs. However (hummm, here it comes), with the MFS2020, things are about to change and I suspect AMD is about to magnet the sim world with their wonderful processors and prices. Why would I continue to support a company who has enjoyed bleeding us for over 15 years of "mild increases in performance" That's right mild increases- on purpose.

Agreed with a few of caveats:

1) 9900K at 5.4 GHz requires major cooling horsepower. Not all will hit this.

2) 3700x system cost approx $150 less than even a 9700K system would have let alone factoring price of 9900K into it.  (even going crazy with the X570 board)

3) Either way, its far superior to the 6700K I replaced. Sure, if budget was no concern I would have gone 9900KS and the gold plated kitchen sink to go with it 🙂

4) 4th gen should be a slot in to the X570 board so upgrade in future should be fairly cheap and easy.

If i not like to OC , i should buy a 3700x instead of 9700k , Intel has to work hard to keep up with AMD the 9900ks is a good binn of 9900k 9700k ,
