October 10, 200619 yr Hello Rick,"and all I got is 1 "smart as_ed" answer, and then Tom locked the thread saying everyone will be getting FS10, and that was the end of it. I had to bite my tongue and not respond to the censorship, because I knew it" - did Tom really say that? - someone or several must have 'wound him right up'! I've been an Avsim member since early 2002 and always found him to be very reasonable and straight down the middle.Although it's very early days yet for FSX (not due to go on sale in the UK until the 17th Oct. 2006), there will be many Flight Simmers, such as myself, who will not be able to afford to get FSX, then expensive upgrade or new PC and Vista. On my pension it will be well into 2007 before I get itMy Fs9 installation runs as sweet as a nut, after years of 'tuning' and massive input from Avsim members and freeware authors from the Avsim Library. I'm in no hurry to 'dump' all that just yet.Put my name on the list for a 'Temp' Fs9 Forum, perhaps Tom will relent after a 'wee dram or two' :)KenSomerset, England
October 10, 200619 yr For the 3rd or 4th time, I agree. It's too difficult to wade through all the FSX performace / release threads. There should be seperate forums for the short term at least. October 10, 200619 yr What problems did you have? There is absolutely no reason why you can't have as many versions of MSFS as you want on the same system. You can even put them all on the same HDD. I've had everything back to FS95 on one HDD and I think I saw a post by someone that has even more versions than that installed.Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. October 10, 200619 yr I find that, recently, I am wasting between 15 and 30 minutes daily just trying to browse PAST the FSX threads to get to the few FS9 open threads that I can find. I've no current interest in FSX. If the MSFS General Discussion Forum becomes primarily an FSX forum, I'll probably be spending more time elsewhere as this wasted-time investment is beginning to be counter-productive (read that as: I'd rather be flying than scanning past FSX-this-that-theotherthing threads).I'm getting the feeling that FSX is subtly being promoted by the AVSIM staff as "the way to go"/"the only thing of value" by not allowing for even a temp FS9-only forum. It's neither hard to setup nor to manage a FS9-only forum so I personally don't see the issue.Add me to the "please open at least a temp FS9 forum" list.
October 10, 200619 yr I've just drifted over to the other forum. That so called other forum only used to get about 1% of my sim site time. Having only been a flight simmer for about 4 months I hadn't even bothered to register over there because Avsim provided almost everything that I was looking for in a forum about my new hobby.I still think Avsim is one of the most amazing on line resources I've ever seen, regardless of subject, but for now at least it's too much trouble wading through the all the posts that interest me the least to find current discussion on the topic that interests me the most, which is FS9. I'm certainly not going to abandon Avsim, far from it, it's a great place, but for now at least I have an alternative.
October 11, 200619 yr You can also add my name to those pleading for a distinct FS9 forum. I will not be going over to FSX for a good while and it is hard work ploughing thro' the FSX threads in the hope of lighting on an FS9 topic.Bud
October 11, 200619 yr Absolutely agree. There are a great many of us who will not see FSX for some time. I see absolutely no reason not to create a dedicated FSX Forum. - Dean P3Dv4 & XP11 space
October 11, 200619 yr Or , maybe, even a dedicated FS9 forum. :-) Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. October 11, 200619 yr Guys Flightsim.com has an FS9 only forum and so does most if not all other FS related sites. As proof FSX is a unique release, back when FS9 was released Avsim did the same thing. Even though FS9 had performance issues with clouds and autogen most were able to convert over and/or run the sim on their current hardware of the time. If you had a new machine you were in better shape. We didn't have the issue of needing an FS2k2 only forum back then because the complaints concerning FS9 wasn't on this level, the dissatisfaction wasn
October 12, 200619 yr Hi John,"'m getting the feeling that FSX is subtly being promoted by the AVSIM staff as "the way to go"/"the only thing of value" by not allowing for even a temp FS9-only forum. It's neither hard to setup nor to manage a FS9-only forum so I personally don't see the issue."I understand your statement here, but in my opinion this is not a fair statement. We've asked and asked...Begged and Begged, but it's been explained in several threads that it is not as easy as we may think it is.The staff don;t promote items as much as we the users do. we are the ones controlling the input into the forum by our questions, comments, answers, ect. we don't even police ourselves. It was suggested that we use "FS9" or "FSX" in our subject line to work as a pointer. Some try it and some ignore it. Heck the only reason I read this was because it mentioned FS9.Maybe if we, the users Use "FS9" as a pointer or "flag" as a habit it will make it easier for the moderators to move. However, we only have so many moderators and they can't spend all of their time monitoring and swithching items over. Too many FSX versus FS9 critters out there. And 2002 "pro" is not dead!! Some 2994 stuff works in FS9.I would really like to have a dedicated FS9 forum, but I'm satisfied that it is unreasonble at this time. Please don't take this as a disagreement in whole. I just don't feel that the staff is in control of evrything we do ourselves and that we should take responsiblity for our own actions. Then again, you or I can't control everyone else:-)And I'll apologize up front if if don't respond in a reasonable time. I'm starting to get aggravated with all the FSX stuff and thinking of stopping using the forum til the dust clears. The 17th isn't even here yet and we have people who don't even own the thing yet gettin 199 FPS, with all sliders to the right, UT, FSGEN, and Ulti Traf all installed and "WOW!!! (if you get my meaning:-)) It's going to get worse before it gets better:-(Best regardsJan1,KINDWhen I push the button and it works, I'm happy:-)
October 12, 200619 yr I started this thread. I am happy to see that many of us are not (yet)eager to discuss FSX and prefer to enjoy the superb FS9 they have build over the years with the help of so many free and paid addons. I have two remarks for the AVSIM staff. 1- As far as I remember, even a beefed-up FS2000 was far from being as good as a tip-top FS9 when compared to the next generation program. FS9 deserves better than a quick burial under a pile of FSX mumbo-jumbo :)2- As mentionned in this thread, most other flight sim forums differentiate FS9 and FSX. Why should it be "unreasonable" for AVSIM?Let keep asking for the favor of reading and discussing what we like.
October 12, 200619 yr Hi All,My vote is also for a dedicated FS9 forum.Regards,Hamilton Hamilton Müller
October 12, 200619 yr Hi,You all can give this a rest! It didn't happen with 98, 2000, 2002, 2004, and it is not going to happen with FSX. You can all post a million times, ask a billion times, beg a billion times, and it is STILL not going to happen. AND the reasons have been explained from THE MAN himself in other threads!!Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
October 12, 200619 yr Author Maybe if we don't give it a rest, the staff might finally understand that we won't give up. I suggest we might all start flooding this forum with requests for a separate area. If the "higher ups" take offense at this, then they are telling us that they don't want us here! I for one am tired of wading through "WalMart in _____, Ark. has FS10 on the shelf!" What contribution is this making? But if you ask for something that the management disagrees with, they either lock your thread, delete it, or if you're disagreeable....ban you.I have read this has been brought up before, but can't seem to find the explanation why this is such a BIG DEAL. You don't have to go through the whole library to look for a particular livery.....why?....because its subdivided. If it's not do-able, the courtesy of a civil reason why it can't happen, is a lot better than a sarcastic short "its not going to happen", then lock the thread! A good rule to remember is treat people the way you want to be treated. You catch a lot more bees with honey, than you do vinegar.I personally am very close to Tom's age, own my own business (work for myself), and really don't have the time to wade through all the other FS10 stuff. I just got a new Core 2 computer, and am finally happy with the performance of FS9. With GE PRO, FE, AS, FsGenesis meshes, and all the ai traffic, I am amazed at how real everything looks from the air as it does in real-life. And I am also not eager to do away with the hundreds of dollars worth of add-ons I have. I am not willing again to be a "beta-tester" who has had to pay for the opportunity! I can see me being happy with FS9 for years to come!Rick
