hope Asobo can get this xplane 11 feature right

mSparks, so you think those reporting MSFS is running at max details on a RTX 2080 at 4k resolution/GTX 1080 at 2k resolution are lying then ?
I'm talking about journalists at MS events, Asobo itself, and some reports we had from alpha testers.

Also, you don't know where the AI job is done. It can be in the cloud, or local, or a mix of both. You also don't know to what extent AI applies to the scenery and the amount of data it has to deal with for a single location. So it's futile to even make assumptions about this.

No.

I think "max detail" has even less meaning in this context than AI.

And there is a significant difference, a lot of development time and always unpleasant sacrifices between "running" and "running acceptably well"

I can "run" quake 2 RTX on my 1070. At 2k no less.

But cannot play it at any acceptable resolution.

GTX1080/RTX2080 are hardly "consumer grade hardware" either. They cost more than the vast majority of people spent on their entire PC.

Total guess here but I would think that if the quality shown in the marketing videos wasn't already attainable by the alpha testers then at least a handful of them would have thrown away the NDA and made their dissatisfaction pretty evident by now.

They did.

They last about 7 or 8 minutes before they are deleted. Its not just the individuals breaking the NDA who are at risk of facilitating such things.

Leaving up material large corporations and wealthy people dont want you to see brings down whole sites (gawker being the world leading example)

watched someone get banned from reddit last week just for posting a screenshot of a [censored] download screen.

In that instance I'm not blaming them because it's pretty clear the info / screenshot etc would have originated from someone who is 100% breaking contract (the NDA).

Best of both worlds. At home, working and billing the time 😉

Im definately not blaming them.

Typically I only read/see stuff if and after it gets deleted.

Tech alpha 2 at least seems to be getting a better reception on RTX2080 cards. So it would seem they are making progress.

And Im not breaking any NDA saying so 🙂

Not for me 😉 In fact I wonder sometimes if my life is by itslef a simulation of another life perhaps. Even the experts of the Universe went as far as suggesting that the Universe itself could be a simulation of another existence or space time or whatever makes my brain hurts hah! 🙄

Ok seriously now...

I see no reason to pull on one extreme or another when it comes to MSFS performance.

I think Asobo mentioned adaptive frame rate. Now obviously the word Adapt means also LOD in the world of graphic engines...

In fact I will be very surprised and I will declare Asobo the genius of geniuses in the history of game developement if the level of details we saw in the previews will happen with enough smoothness on my 10 years old overclocked to 4.5GHZ i7 Sandy Bridge with GTX1070 8GB and a 16 DDR3 RAM + SSD for simulation apps.

So I am not living in the illusions of havnig what I saw in the previews running as is on my actual machine...

But if it happens, then this could be a real technological miracle... Who knows!

I was not considered for the Alpha, my SDK email was never answered so, let's wait for the Beta.

You are smart, you have seen these multiple times, and they keep getting deleted.  So why didn't you screenshot them, or take a phone pic?  Kind of like if you see a ufo, pull out your phone and take a pic.  Of course with all these phones people carry, make you wonder why you don't see ufo pics now days.  (Not to distract this thread with ufo's)

My brother has Coronavirus, confirmed by testing. On 3/26 he almost didn't survive the night.  He had extreme trouble breathing and was given a steroid inhaler.  He was very weak, had nausea, and other issues that aren't pleasant.  As of this update he is feeling much better, and seems he will be fine.  Stay safe out there.  (Updated 4/6)

That caveat aside, what has continually amazed me over the years with "true" AI is emergent behaviour, seemingly related to things it should know nothing about.

Don't really see a contradiction to what I said. AI can make use of probabilities, anticipations and stuff like that. But it can't accurately reconstruct things. It could get close or even lucky tho.

Happy with MSFS 🙂

One thing that really impresses me about xplane 11 is how the autogen and infrastructure is classed by country. In germany, for instance, houses are not just blocks, but actually have pointed rooftops in the style you actually see there

As already pointed out, there are only two varieties of autogen in the default XP11 sim, basically US and Germany style houses. Most of the world has the US buildings. However, XP does allow any developer to customise or add new region packs which is what MisterX has done with SFD Global. I find XP autogen looks very good at ground level.

One issue I find, even with SFD Global, is that even with nicely themed buildings, the actual placement is too uniform and fake looking. It looks good at ground level, but higher up it looks quite robotic. Maybe in the US with its grid layouts in cities it works, but for other places in the world it looks wrong and stands out a lot to me.

What we need is a good combination of both, but so far we can at least be sure that MSFS has the actual building placements correct from the satellite imagery.

Because it can. Its called "inference".

Something like height can easily be inferred from the shadows for example. More importantly "good" AI can infer things you never actually asked it to.

Even if they are using "make a 3d object that looks like these photos" type tech (not AI) you can get very accurate 3d reconstructions. This is what Asobo was working on before they got the MSFS2020 gig.

You can even get pretty great 3d models from single low quality images, for example https://arxiv.org/abs/1704.00710
