Hows that Nvidia Frame limiter working out?

hey burt.  Thanks so much.  So are you saying perhaps to try Framerate Limit= 0 and Scanline Sync x/2= -10

That is what I used for quite a while.. until I recently switched to the NCP fps limiter.

Thanks man. I’ll try it out. I know nothing about this program. How does that input tell it to lock a 60fps tv to 30. Just want to understand the science. Thanks

Not sure about the "Science".. but if you mouse over the individual items, there is a Help text..

The "Scanline Sync x/2" locks at half the refresh rate  (60/2 = 30)

-10 is the selected location of the scanline.. which is not visible..

thanks bert.  I played with all sorts of combos of settings.  In the end for me NCP seemed to be the best option.  Just a simple lock to 29 or 30 with vsync on / TB off.

Just tried the NCP limiter versus RivaTuner, and while I did not discern a change in frame rates (both set at 29) the CPU load, at least on my system, is reduced considerably. CPU 0, which used to be pegged just sitting on the tarmac, is no longer pegged. In fact, on a frame-friendly aircraft like the Carenado Baron the CPUs that are hosting the terrain engines are often maxxed out while CPU 0 is loafing along at 50-percent busy. I tried the Alabeo DA-42, which on my system has traditionally been a bit of a frame hog, and even there I had headroom on CPU 0.

Weird... Welcome, but weird!

You don't need the vsync anymore if you are on a 60Hz monitor. That's the beauty of 30FPS setting in NCP.

I'm changing it under change resolution then refresh rate.  Not under manage 3D settings/max frame rate.

Did you try to set Unlimited and Vsync Off in P3Dv4, monitor @60Hz and limit FPS in NCP's Manage 3D settings (Prepar3D.exe)?

I used to set like you do now, but after this new function in NCP I switched to it.

I've always used unlimited.  I tried doing 60 and then the frame lock for P3D with every option of vsync on and off.  However smoothness was better for whatever reason doing it just with refresh rate set in the old way.  I can't really explain why.  It would make my life easier if it would work though.  Basically I noticed fairly quick microstutters.

I was skeptical, but I tried the NCP frame limiter with P3d4's limiter disabled. The frequency of short frames was reduced to almost none. The only stuttering I get now is the usual Active Sky weather injection stutter, which I can live with, since it only occurs every 15 minutes.

I really wish I could explain why using the refresh rate instead of changing the max frame rate results in a smoother experience for me.  I notice it the most in FSLabs aircraft

Are you not still getting stutters when scenery is loading, e.g. approaching a major airport or loading a city's skyline?

This is the part that's just not clicking for me. Sure, maybe limiting FPS with either of the methods might reduce stuttering that comes from frames jumping between 30 -> 60, but I've yet to see any solution that solves the scenery loading problem.

I can say for me this is rarely an issue at all.  Some airports like FSDT will have a small blip, but overall this is not an issue that causes any concern.

I don't get that type of stuttering. It may be because I also use FFTF Dynamic.
