February 25, 20206 yr I have always used ASUS boards since assembling my own PCs but I wouldn't mind trying this MSI board. If you've used recent models from MSI please comment on your experiences as far as problems w/ hardware, customer support if you had to grapple w/ issues, longevity, automated overclocking routines in their software, and so forth. This particular board has the feature set I'm after, the price is decent, and reviews on newegg are decent as well. Thanks! February 25, 20206 yr Hmm.... never used MSI, always Asus. The manufacturer I would consider though, other than Asus, is EVGA. Great boards with great support. Same for PSU, I always buy EVGA these days. Fantastic 10 year warranty, reliable, great support. Same for graphics cards.... EVGA.
February 25, 20206 yr Author Yeah, me too! Hopefully someone w/ experience will chime in. I've always bought EVGA GPU but never considered EVGA, so I will! I came to consider jumping ship when I noticed the % of 1 and 2 star reviews was substantially lower in MSI v ASUS and other brands. I know we can't always trust those and many may come from operator error more than anything else, but it's all I have to go on. The now popular ASUS Z390 boards that I see used here have 3 of 5 stars and a much higher % of as I say 1 and 2 star reviews compared to MSI. Thanks Martin I will look at EVGA and see. ADDENDUM: just looked at newegg and EVGA's array of z390 models is very small, just two, and the only one I would consider of those two is $499 with several complaints about some peripheral issues but not w/ the main board which is rated well as an overclocker. I'm not looking for extreme o/c and $499 seems very steep so I think I'll pass on EVGA at this point. I will be looking for an EVGA GPU though! After my very bad experience with a MSI laptop I'm doubtful I'd use a MSI motherboard. Always had used ASUS MoBo's. February 25, 20206 yr Ive found the MSI z390 Ace to be excellent with regular driver, bios and software updates. Been running my 9900k at 5.2Ghz for the last 14 months. Regards Howard H D Isaacs
February 25, 20206 yr I had an MSI Z68 board that had a 2600k clocked at 4.6ghz for about three years. I have never liked Asus, had a Z370 Prime for about 18 months with my 8700k, and had all kinds of issues with it. Got shut in about October, as got offered my current board and cpu at a stupid price. My Z390 Pro A has been fantastic. Not a single issue at all, clocked straight to 5ghz on my 9700k. Delighted with it. February 25, 20206 yr I have had from different manufacturers msi asus asrock gigabyte never really had a problem with any of them sometimes you just a get bad one supposedly the gigabyte has better caps for overlocking. February 25, 20206 yr I usually build with ASUS, but I did build one with MSI a few years ago. The machine is still going strong. It's about 7 years old though, so it isn't probably isnt' "recent" data on MSI you're looking for. My work machine has an ASRock board. It has worked well for a couple of years now. I've had good results with ASRock when there is a budget involved. If there's no budget, then it's ASUS. My only concern with eVGA motherboards would be that they are relatively new to motherboards. However, I like eVGA video cards, so I might be willing to build with one of their motherboards. Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB

March 20, 20206 yr Author Thanks all got it put together a few weeks ago an all seems well. It's a real nice upgrade for me which will keep me up in the air for a long time, and will be more than sufficient for MSFS I'm sure.
