Maddog DXGI CTD

Featured Replies

I  just downloaded the P3 v5 Maddog and am getting a CTD because of a DXGI error. I have a I7 4790K, 4Ghz, 32 GB ram, GTX 980TI. All other planes work, however when I change the view it crashed. Can you help?

Thanks

Bernd

Looks like vram is too high for this bird bet it uses realight and trueglass beta . Can anyone confirm.aerosoft where planning to release with the beta as well .fine if you are running a 11gig card.

The devs recommend and advised, even before release, that a 8GB VRAM is required for the MaddogX right now. 980ti has 6gb if i recall correctly.

On my flights so far, it seems to max out at 6.5gb-7gb with heavy scenery.

So unfortunately, you have to wait for further optimizations or get a card with more VRAM. With p3dv5, 6gb just wont cut it at this point.

I have 8 gig card and don't have any problems at all. X plane however vulcan many problems with vram. go figure.

Thanks, I was afraid of that , maybe the 2070 super of 2080 super. I read they are good cards.

Again: DEVICE_HUNG has nothing (read: NOTHING) to do with running out of VRAM.

90% the causes are driver errors or hardware issues (overclocking, overheating, degrading etc.). Flightsims are VERY high demanding and can push your hardware over its limits if you are not careful with addons, settings etc.

Alter the TDR setting in your registry, Goolge can help you there.

Im open beta testing the TFDi 717 for P3Dv5. It has been found out that the DXGI errors that have been happening to that plane was caused by running out of VRAM. Removing reallight and trueglass which lessens the VRAM load substantially, fixes it for most users.

The MaddogX is better optimised in that regard and despite using the same beta version of RL and TG, it has a substantially less VRAM load and no DXGi errors. Provided that you have more than 8GB of VRAM as recommended by the devs.

I will give it a try, how do you remove trueglass and reallight? Thanks

Maddog x do not use RL anymore a long time ago.

The removal i was mentioning was for the TFDi 717 which was done for beta testing purposes. I do not suggest doing it for the MaddogX and it indeed does not use Reallight anymore as @Gumerson said. Only Trueglass and I dont think it will have a huge effect on VRAM usage.

Bad time to buy a 2070 or 2080 super, wait for the 3070-3080 they will have more VRAM also.

In the case of the TFDI-717 beta, after installation, In the P3DV5 /gauges folder will be two DLL files: trueglass.dll and reallight.dll. You can either move them temporarily to another location or simply change the .dll extension to something else like .bak or .old

With the beta 717, having both true glass and real light active adds an additional 2GB to the total VRAM load as opposed to running without them, which might be the difference between being able to fly or having a VRAM crash.

The Maddog apparently uses only true glass, and it installs a beta version of the trueglass.dll specifically optimized for V5. Even though TFDI is the creator of true glass, I don’t know if the version installed with their own 717 beta is the V5 optimized one or not.

What I have noticed is that this DXGI error with resulting CTD only happens with my addons such as the PMDG 747, Maddog and Q400 and it only happens when I try to switch from windowed mode to full screen mode and vv. My vram is always around 4.7 of 5.8. I tried several different Nvidia drivers but it did not make a difference. Cannot think of anything different to try.

So... can't you just stay in windows mode, then...?

There is no official word about these cards, no release date and nothing about vram size. Might as well hold out for 5080 or something. If you need an upgrade, go for it.
