Very intersting post by Aerosoft (Mathijs Kok) on MSFS

A relative newcomer to flight sim development discussing things with a company with 27 years of experience in flight simulator?

What is so strange about that?

Well, I'm imagining the conversation about "high end, complex add-ons" went something like this:

Mathijs is off talking to the Asbobo bigwigs...

Now, the Asbobo devs can directly ask the Aerosoft devs - "Hey...uh...you guys sim with the FSL bus at home, right? So...how do we build something like that?"

(Don't hate me, Mathijs, I am just joking) 🙂

Mathijs of course will talk up MSFS, aren't they the exclusive box version retailer? They've gone all in on MSFS and so of course they will talk down P3D now every chance he gets, it's to their financial benefit for more to buy into MSFS. I take what Mathijs says with a healthy dose of suspicion. He aleady in that post above dismissed FSL and their superior product by his comment of Aerosoft doing the Airbus and his friends at PMDG handling the Boeing's. I wouldn't put it past him to try to keep FSL out of the MSFS ecosystem for as long as he can. Hence my theory his working with Asbobo to determine what developers need. If he knows FSL needs certain things in the SDK that his Airbus does not, would he be advocating for it on their behalf? I know I wouldn't if I was him. He knows (whether he admits it or not) that they cannot compete with FSL

This is going to be an interesting release for sure! Here we are with thousands of people ordering an advanced simulator and a company in Europe hawking a 20 CD set of said simulator that have been pressed while the simulator is still in Alpha. All the while, as far as I know, we have not had even one human on planet earth who has been able to verify that they have made a complete flight in said simulator other than the Dev's in France. In addition this is going to be sold in a completely new on line web store to everything from experts  with years of experience right down to kids who can not safely use a cell phone. LOL I ask you....What could possibly go wrong on Aug 18th? 😂

What did you want him to say? Fsl will do the airbus while pmdg does the Boeing? Off course they have to plug their own product. I don't know which dev would do it any different lol

Who gets cd version these days anyways? In this digital age things change very quickly and i fully suspect that the version you get in the boxed version will need a big update no matter how you slice it. Especially considering that the live version is gonna see plenty updates after launch with bug fixes etc. Features are gonna be added in the following weeks and months while the boxed versions are staying the same. It very nicely illustrates the problem with cd. Its a mn antiquated delivery option soon to go to the museum.

This is just the start. I heard from a reputable source in my head that Aerosoft will also be the sole European distributor of Bill Gate’s GPS Covid19 vaccine where he’ll be able to track all of us and watch us in the toilet and sell that information to our real lizard people overlords. You better believe it. The DVDs also double as tin foil hats. How could that be a coincidence?!

Why mention any names at all? The discussion was between him (Aerosoft) and Asobo. Poor form, in my books.

Poor form to not praise a direct competitor?

Come on, you guys need to lighten up.

PMDG sells boxed products through Aerosoft. Not really a direct competitor then especially since AS does not produce a boeing of their own. Vested interests. Simple.

Windows 7 which undoubtedly became the best windows version released by Microsoft has been installed onto computers using oem cd and then upgraded via windows updates for years. Even in this day plenty of people around the world still rely on a physical disk for initial install of software then online updates to bring it up to the latest spec. Aerowinx PSX -  the best 747-400 simulator software is a perfect example. I'm lucky to live in a country where internet fees are cheap and download speeds are quick but their are plenty of other countries in the world who aren't as fortunate and updating software via a patch is a much better option for them so I have to respectfully disagree that its an antiquated delivery option.

What a refreshing change...all developers concerned are on the same page and addressing customer needs and not closed shop ideology.

Yup, I think he'll find FSL might have something to say about the notion that they can make the Airbuses. 🤣

Don't get me wrong, I have the Aerosoft ones as well as the FSL ones, and even the Black Box Ones too, but yup, Lefteris and his lot can wipe the floor with the lot of them and not even break a sweat.

Yes, except in the one area that also has a huge impact: the price point...

OK Bill, I understand. Still interesting though (at least to me 🙂 ) as an indication of how they feel about the quality of the untested (by the masses) beta version that Aerosoft must of had for a while now.

Not really surprising. The DVDs probably contain most of the core scenery, textures and other graphical elements that have already been fully completed, and those fixed elements typically constitute the majority of a sim in terms of total file size, but they are only part of the total package.

The executable program files and DLLs are still undergoing active development and testing, and will continue to be updated right up until release day. Those are the elements that contain all the operating logic and systems emulation - they are what actually make the simulator “simulate”.

Most likely those elements are not on the DVD’s, and will be automatically downloaded to end-user computers the first time the software is run on release day.

So in this scenario the DVDs do not represent a complete 'solution' for those without an internet connection, which I had thought was at least one reason they were being made available. Or, perhaps, the needed additional DVDs will eventually be made available.

My guess would be the initial set of DVDs will 'get you flying' in some manner although it may be at the latest Alpha version level.

No, CD is antiquated, if not quite extinct. I’d have to go back 3 PCs to find one that even has a CD drive. Look at cases from the past 5 years, it’s rare to find this even as an option now.

Technology moves on, CDs are archaic in 2020 just like floppy discs before them.
