Nah, maybe years ago we'd have specified that only an old prop fighter was a warbird, but these days in observing the variety of preserved stuff which turns up at airshows, I'd say the term can readily be applied to any ex-military aeroplane which is getting on a bit, not even necessarily one no longer in service anywhere.

The Tables of the Law don’t say anything about what a warbird is so you are welcome to put anything into the category but it does not make sense to me.

When the OP refers to ww2 aircraft and warbirds I know exactly what he means. Aircraft that I am interested in. Mustang, B17, DC3 etc. and jets of the late 40s. Not the Jaguar or the F14. Warbirds are a subset of military aviation and diluting them into this vast category brings confusion market-wise. A different niche.

If it is bringing active weapon systems in FS20. I am also all against it. I prefer the developer not to lose focus. If it is rejecting military aircraft on a mawkish principle, it is rather stupid. Military aviation has always been  a major factor in advancing technology and military aircraft are interesting to fly. Some of the older birds show that in Reno for instance.

Pretty sure they mean that they won't be offering any military aircraft as official DLC, but 3rd-parties will off course produce them.
There probably won't be any weapons systems/effects in the base sim - but hasn't VRS announced the intention to port TacPack?.

When originally announced the facility to import legacy FSX aircraft was promised - not heard anything since but that would be a good stopgap until the 3PDs ship.

Evidently someone who has never heard the phrase: Si vis pacem, para bellum. 🙂

Worth noting that there kind of is already is a warbird in the new sim, in the guise of the Cessna 172, since there is a military version of it - the T41 Mescalero.

I agree. Flying a high performance military fighter jet is one thing, revelling in its sheer performance and the controlled violence of high-G, high power-to-weight ratio is one thing; learning to "fight" that plane as a weapons platform as well requires a whole new game plan. Hence, simulators such as DCS exist.

A good example would be the L-39 Czech military trainer, one the top FSX addon for me. The late Lotus Simulations made a great simcraft without weapon systems and DCS another good one  equipped for war..

Likewise, the SEPECAT Jaguar, which at 47 years old, and no longer in service with either of the original operators (UK and France), but still in limited service with the Indian Air Force, is definitely fitting into the equivalent car definition for a 'classic' at nearly half a century old. Being an older type, its deployment in the  Gulf War in an air-to-air role, was questioned by some people at the time given its capabilities compared to the potential of possibly coming up against MiG-29s, but it did okay and with this in mind I don't think there's any doubting that it is an old warbird.

The SEPECAT Jaguar is (was) a great airplane.  I once saw them taking off and landing from grass fields.   Their big stalky long suspension bouncing along.  And to what you mentioned about the Gulf War, to think they could even perform a role about which they were not intended...

A Jag would be the perfect bush plane eh?  Maybe a little longer TO run than Draco.

If MSFS 2020 is half as good as I hope, it is going to be the future for civilian flight sims, but it could be the future for combat flight sims too. The aircraft, scenery, weather and flight dynamics far exceed the capabilities of any sim out there, civilian or combat. I personally prefer WWII aircraft, like the above-mentioned, but that's only because I grew up when that war was still fresh in the collective memory. I personally wouldn't even mind seeing civilian and combat planes in the same world, but I can appreciate the reasons why others might not.

Now what's the point of all those beautifully-rendered housing estates if you can't flatten them all with a B-52 arc-light mission. It's an outrage!

You should read some of the stuff posted on the MSFS reddit. There's a thread clamoring for an Oppressor Mk2 (look it up if you don't know what that is).
