Long flights and flight computer

Featured Replies

I asked that questions last year, but perhaps more is known by now: what about long distance flights? Do we have to fly the aircraft in real time? Is there any time compression option? I'm afraid I won't have enough time to fly 4-hour routes in a A320...

And second thing: I saw how nice route planning works in MSFS. But when we are in the cockpit of, say, A320, is the route automatically entered in the MCDU, or we need to write the route down and then enter manually point by point?

Thanks

You can skip ahead to different legs of the flight.

I saw time compression used by a few of the YouTube preview people yesterday.  Seems like it works the same as it does in FSX and P3D: press 'R' and then use SHFT +/- to adjust it faster or slower, like we always have.  It was really smooth too, not many jutters or lag or such.

Like  with the nifty QW 787 ?

Jump ahead feature is cool; does the default planner import the route in the FMC of the ac?  😁

I saw a load/save flightplan, so without knowing for certain, I'm pretty sure we can import flightplans from ie. Simbrief. But from what they have shown, you can make the flightplan with SID/STARS in the inbuilt planner, and choose if you want high or low airways, and it generates it for you and put it in the MCDU in the A320

I don't always stop and look at airplanes.........Oh wait, Yes I do.

Really good for a built in default feature. But I'm sure the poopoers will find some reason to complain.

Afraid we do, it doesn't follow SRD (standard routing document)! I suspect the planner doesn't know about the directionality of airways or their valid levels, but happy to be proven wrong (it just sees high and low). But if has SID/STAR support which is a huge advance. so that being the case it'll be good enough for use outside of areas that use d VATSIM or IVAO, but no substitute for a fully compliant IFR route run through Simbrief (but I never expected it replace our existing routing tools anyway)

It's a default feature. It doesn't need to be perfect or fully compliant with anything. This is not an FAA approved training sim. It just needs to work and provide a means of navigation.

That's exactly what I meant, it is sufficient for most needs and that's as I expected.

Also, on a side note I hope it doesn't follow FAA regulations, they do so much different to everyone else often for no good reason. I get fed up of the FAA being mentioned on Avsim all the time like they're global overlords, sod them, the rest of the world follows ICAO! I'm glad a French studio has developed the new sim, hopefully we'll have less Americanisms thrust upon the rest of the world, e.g. LAHSOs, "position and hold", "center", "point", RVR in feet, high transition altitude, "heavy" etc

If you use the included flight planner, your route will be in your gps/fmc when the game loads even if the plane is cold and dark. You also have the option of doing it yourself

This!

FAI and ICAO for the win. 🙂 Although having said that, courtesy of Asobo, are we gonna have AF pilots insisting on speaking French to French ATC?

I suggest not taking the MSFS feedback so personally here. Don't worry about Asobo and MS either. They are big boys, they can take it.

It's not them I'm worried about. But the general health of the flight sim community that has long been hijacked by old curmudgeons hell bent on gatekeeping and keeping flight sims inaccessible to the general public.
