I got the email and I applied for it.  I never got in the alpha, doubt I'll get in this either, LOL!

The pandemonium relating to this game is over the top on this forum.

Something similar happened with the Microsoft Flight forum just two weeks before its release. Let's hope it does not get to that point again.

Man, I'm still sad about that development update thread which was wiped clean after it was closed. That was top-tier comedy.

Honestly I'm a bit saddened by the tone used in so many of the critiques of the sim so far. It hasn't even been released to the public yet and the complaints won't stop coming! It's already miles ahead of anything we already have, and addons are going to make it even more incredible.

Fortunately, "the complaints" you mention are simply to my way of thinking, a kind of "ritual" going back to the alpha/beta years for FS2000, FSX. ect/ long, long ago. Just seems to be a thing that happens every new release cycle. I guess when I read some of them for MS2020, I just smiled and felt a weird warmth of recognition. At least they are provoked by a brand new iteration of a product that almost all of us never thought would never appear. This too will pass. Only 2 weeks left!

I'm not an Alpha/Beta tester. In the survey you are asked whether you have pre-ordered the game and whether you have participated in the Alpha/Beta, so it's not exclusive to those.

I got the e-mail almost one hour ago, and someone else on Reddit seems to have received it at around the same time as well. Perhaps it's a very limited amount of users, or there will be more waves soon.

Oh  by the way, notice the release date on the above image? August 18. Making that renegade French origin "Hello there!" email that was going around saying that the product would not be released on the 18th a likely hoax.

+1.

By the way: happy to see you (unlike many) name it a "game" (which it still is) instead of a "simulator".

Fair enough! The difference this time though is that they are listening. Like for real. They said every forum post on this board gets read by *someone* on the team and then is compiled and shared. It feels so wrong to be so harsh when people are essentially saying it to their faces without even a hint of gratitude for the fact that we even get this next-gen sim.

That's one of those arguments - or discussions if you prefer - which comes around again and again, but in the end the distinction is more about an individual's perception and usage than anything else. And let's be honest, has anyone ever seen a post on this topic in any flight simulator forum, where anyone has genuinely been offended by someone calling flight sims games? Not really, most of the time it's perceived as a long-running joke.

Monopoly is a game, but at the same time it is an educational experience which teaches the basics of business competition, property development and management. This means it also serves as a simulation of a career in business. This fits within the framework of the definition of a game, i.e. an activity which has a structured form of play with rules and interaction, which can lead to multiple outcomes, usually with the intent of being entertaining, challenging and sometimes educational. Chess is a game too, and it's fun, but at its heart it is a stylised simulation of warfare which can teach concepts such as tactics, cunning, subterfuge, patience, sacrifice and so on. There's a good chance that someone who learns all that well, would probably make a better general or squad leader than someone who knows nothing of those things.

Same with a flight simulator. So if someone who enjoys simulating the reality of flying aeroplanes might take offence at their activity being called a game, that probably says more about them than it does about the activity they are indulging in.

A few hours ago I received notice that I was selected to participate in this study. Apparently there were more responses than the available spots so not everyone was selected.

I'm wondering if anyone else in here was selected for the study, or even received the original e-mail. I'm seeing very little discussion about it on Reddit so it means that this initiative must be rather exclusive.

Nothing here. Guess they don't want my input. 🤣

Yep, I got accepted into it too.  Got my email about one hour ago.
