Not even mentioning the water, grass, 3D trees, whatever their height....

I never would have guessed that grass would make that much difference.

I'm even trying to assemble a new PC, slowly collecting components... This didn't happen in the last 2 decades !  Well in early 2012 I did buy a PC for MS FLIGHT, but that wasn't built with carefuly chosen components..., something I did around 2001.

P.S.: Not me making the research... Alexis is 🙂   I'm too old for the modern HW...

MFS is SIMPLY OUTSTANDING!!!

I think it's got more to do with how the AP is reacting to the environment and not the AP functionality itself. That would explain why every plane suffers the same thing only after the beta was released. Maybe a change in the weather modelling is what caused it? But I'm speculating.

The interaction with weather seems to be a little problematic in general. I think that stability / inertia issue is also connected to the weather.

I watched a video the other day showing group flying and within a couple minutes I noticed the default airport at Hope, BC was not as good as XP, that there were mismatched ortho tiles, and that those stupid dirt balls like in FSX were flying off the wheels.

I wondered, why am I seeing those dirt balls?  Which someone corrected with a nice freeware adjustment.  Those dirtballs flying off the wheels came from FSX and earlier so why would they be in the new sim....yet there they were.

Do perhaps your comment explains, whatever, built on top of FSX means.

Bryan

Microsoft handed Asobo the code for FSX and they modified it to build this new sim. The code has changed drastically but they kept elements that they haven't gotten to changing yet.

In fact, there are still a lot of basic effects that have not even appeared yet in MSFS, like wing vortices, contrails, tire smoke.........

Its a work in progress.

I noticed their absence in several videos and wondered what was up. This actually scares me a bit. Many of those particulate effects were real resources hogs in FSX/P3D. I hope we don't see MSFS grind to a halt as the bells and whistles get added in.

I hope those bells and whistles dont come in the form of the dirt balls and smoke/water effects from fsx 😄

I hope they come, but it's also one of those things that doesn't bother me that much if it takes some time. I'm always in the cockpit anyway, so I don't see that those things. I have no doubt they can have contrails without a performance hit given everything else they've managed to get working in the world.

There is a .. flatness(?) To xplane that makes it lose (to me) scenary wise even when there is orbx .  It's partly the shaders. It's the lack (generally) of grass. I know some orbx and payware airports have some spots of grass. But MFS has grass in the remote bush airports. And the areas between the airports. And trees that are fuller and are affected by light differently .   It just looks more ... real to me even places where xplane/orbx is more architecturally accurate.

And then we add in the weather system...

That's just my opinion. I wont say anyone else is wrong. And x-plane brings me a ton of joy despite my opinion of its visuals vs MFS.

I know - isn't that crazy? That was actually one of the first things that impressed me. 😄 It's such a small thing, but adds a lot to immersion.

Especially in VFR / bushflying. You can land in a field and it actually looks like a field.

But it sounds like a lot work to get you there on XP.

MSFS2020 customers will just have to pay $100+, and get it stock. So yeah, I think the comparison is relevant.

OK yes this is my point.  The benefit of MSFS is the stock ortho and other qualities.  Obviously XP11 isn't at that level but can be made to be so, so why do that video? I don't know, one might as well have done a FSX and P3D comparison with default scenery; FSX and P3D do not hold a candle to XP11 with the ability to add ortho with overlays so why not use P3D in default this is why I said its irrelevant.  The thing is, as I say, I have an XP11+ that is robust and is stunning with its ortho and overlays and freeware addons.  And no need to steam or be connected to the internet which is in one way an advantage.

I am looking forward to this new offering though.

XP11+ still doesn't compare to what MSFS202 has stock. Not to mention the "tons" of addons required to get XP11 up to half-speed. So a comparison to MSFS2020 stock to XP11 "loaded" shows just how far MSFS2020 has come.

I certainly don't want to have to "chase" after a good time...loading in addons, downloading freeware from the org (this requires that you also have that)...FlywithLuey....payware from the flight sim stores....dropping something in this folder....edit this file...oh wait, this really impacts performance...etc. The "Frankenstein" sim setups are no longer relevant thanks to MSFS2020.

There is something to be said for firing up a sim, and getting the latest tech / best visuals stock.

And I don't see any advantage over "not" having to stream scenery...considering that I am streaming 4k movies / shows on a daily basis...data streaming is more of a norm these days.

The other thing is how natural the lighting system looks in MSFS. No other sim has done that correctly yet. I can't wait to see what ray tracing will look like in MSFS in a few years when it's added in. It might just become completely photorealistic above 1000 feet.

MSFS' scenery is no just the ortho. It's the correct placement of buildings and vegatation which makes up a lot of the overall immersion. Orthos are just flat wallpapers.

If you are on a mission you could probably make it look close, but end up with 15fps and it's still not quite there.

Hmmmmmmm..... I saw those while flying and thought nothing of it. Seems a pretty standard effect for the given situation.

I'm curious. What do you want it to look like?

I don't have the sim lets be clear so haven't had any ability to "test" out anything, its just what I saw in the quick video, it jumped right out at me.  But if someone who have the sim and could land on a dirt strip where you would normally see "dust" then that would prove its an artifact from FSX days if it shows dirt balls (rocks) flying.  I would not expect bloody great blobs of dirt that size of one's fist flying through the air which is why someone fixed it years ago.

No doubt the lighting, clouds and such are a big improvement, from what I've seen its going to be great.
