X-box controller for Drone camera.

Featured Replies

In some of the videos I have seen, people uses a X-box controller for the drone camera. Seems like a good idea, so is there a special controller I should go for, or will any one do? Can I just go for the cheapest one, (maybe even a used one)  or is there any advantage of buying a more expensive one? And remember, it's only for camera control, not as a yoke.

The X-Box One controller works natively and hassle-free with Windows. And it is a good ergonomic design and build quality.

i just got a generic xbox one s controller

Running i5-9600K @ 4.8ghz - 32GB DDR4 3200mhz - GTX 3070.

BUT - for a PC -- it needs the X Box One a controller STICK that fits in your USB -  if you have a wireless setup

If you use a wired controller - you still need a spare USB slot

Yes, like any other PC USB peripheral it needs a USB slot, either for a cable or for the wireless receiver you can buy with the controller.

If you will mostly just be using it for some occasional camera control, I recommend connecting it via cable. The wireless connection requires batteries in the controller, and if you haven't been using the controller for some minutes it will switch off to save batteries, and you need to manually switch it on next time you want to control the camera.

Squirrel over at youtube pointed out that the wireless controllers bugs out when they time out, and makes the sim freeze (it passes, but it's very annoying). So unless you have a big reason to use wireless I would go for a wired one.

Good to know, thanks for this.

I use a xbox controller for P3d outside and worldcamera via Chaseplane. Really hope Chaseplane is comming along on the new platform as it seems more advanced still.

But default seems much improved as well.

Is an X-Box controller the only input that works with the drone camera?

Can you use yoke/keyboard?

I have played a lot of sims and PC games over the years. I have never encountered any that limited certain controls to one type of controller only. I am very certain you can set up the drone camera controls as you like.

I've literally just received my controller in the post. A basic logitec - but most importantly - not wireless. Completely agree with above posters that wireless is a bad idea for this usage. Although having said that I'm probably going to be found strangled one day in the midst of the jungle of wires in my office....

Thanks a lot for the advices on which controller to get I will look for a wired one, cause how often will I use it, and when I do it will be annoying if it had gone into batteri saving mode.

Will this one do the job? https://www.pricerunner.dk/pl/165-4872293/Spil-Controllere/PDP-Wired-Controller-White-(Xbox-One-PC)-Sammenlign-Priser

Any PC compatible controller will do the job. Including that one.
