August 10, 20205 yr What do you guys think is the best way to uninstall P3D? I also have numerous addons? Should I try to use Win10 to uninstall addons then delete the remaining? Then uninstall P3D via win10 menu? Ugh a monumental task lol. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
August 10, 20205 yr Some addons need to be deactivated and/or uninstalled to preserve the license/activation for a later reinstallation, e.g. PMDG, FSDreamteam, FSPS, and P3D itself. The add-ons should be deactivated/uninstalled first...some, like PMDG's planes and FSDT's sceneries, have to be deactivated in the sim, so if you delete P3D first, you can no longer get to the menu to deactivate the license. As to the rest, it depends on whether you care if there are a lot of vestigial entries in your "Programs and Features" page. If that doesn't matter, you can just delete the software, and ignore the hanging entries cluttering up Programs and Features. If you're rebuilding, I always find it helpful to make a copy of the entire sim installation first, so that I can go back and recover the hundreds of mods, tweaks, and config choices I made along the way, if needed. P3D has given me a LOT of enjoyable flights over the last 6+ years. I don't regret my three purchases (v2-v4). I've spent too much money on addons, LOL, but it was worth it. I need the SSD space and I also want to continue using XP11. Having flown almost all the flight sims in the last 20 years, it's time for me to move on to the next one! I'll be on the new sim too, but I'm keeping other sims around also. It's a lot to keep track of but it's my little hobby I guess. Too add to what Bob S. mentioned, certain sceneries (and maybe aircraft, too) might offer discounts for prior ownership. Like FlightBeam, for example, might be making a KDEN for MSFS, and maybe (wishful thinking?) they would offer a discount on the new one, if you own the old one from P3D. So keep tabs on your serial #'s or registration info before you uninstall everything. Even if you have it on a digital download, you can't be absolutely positive that will always stay available to you (PMDG MD-11 cough cough) or be able to be installed without the sim present. For that reason I keep that info in a text file. Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB

August 11, 20205 yr Before I will install the new sim, I'll probably do a complete new Windows 10 installation - After four years this is a good idea anyway .... All will be in vanilla state, for ther new sim. I'll install P3Dv5(v1) again if I should miss it. From what I've been able to pick up from comments by folks who seem to have some insight into the development process, I think the change from P3D is quite significant in some areas, e.g., the use of Wasm, no dlls allowed, etc. I guess the final word on how significant and how steep the learning curve is awaits the release of the official SDK.
