Do y’all routinely update to the latest official nVidia video driver or stick with what works even if it’s many generations old?  Specifically, P3dv4 and 5.

I try to run the most current version.  In the rare case I encounter problems I'll just roll back

5800X3D, 4090FE, 64GB DDR4 3600C16, Gigabyte X570S MB, EVO 970 M.2's, Alienware 3821DW  and 2  22" monitors, Corsair RM1000x PSU,  360MM MSI MEG, MFG Crosswind, T16000M Stick, Boeing TCA Yoke/Throttle, Skalarki MCDU and FCU, Logitech Radio Panel/Switch Panel, Spad.Next

I keep my drivers up to date, and after next week it may be a more important if you intend running MSFS.

Unless a new driver has an essential feature (like a security update), I just stick with a version that I know works well. I may think again if any drivers are released which are optimised for the new sim.

It can contain bug fixes also.

I am not updating the graphics driver for every single release unless theres a new feature that P3D can take advantage of or bug fix that has been introduced, however the latest Windows update to version 2004 also relies upon a fairly recent version of the nVidia driver for example, so there are times where an old generation GPU driver may no longer be useful and an driver update is going to be necessary.

I do not routinely update drivers.  I tried it years ago and it worked until I started getting drivers that were not optimized for what was becoming an old video card.  Unless there is a problem or a new driver adds compatibility with something I wish to use, I stick with whatever driver gives me good performance and stability.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

Good day. Can anyone out there help me with my (lack) of understanding of Nvidia game profiles? I have the latest Nvidia driver installed which has a game ready profile for MSFS. When I start MSFS, will the profile be automatically used? If so, why does the profile have no special settings when I view it, i.e. all settings are "Global" under the profile? I thought there would be special settings for MSFS. Regards.

There are. But some of these settings aren't visible in the Nvidia Control Panel. You need to use Nvidia Profile Inspector which exposes all the hidden settings. But I recommend against using NPI, as it's more likely that one will cause damage by tweaking rather than obtaining improved performance. One can get into enough trouble just with the settings in the NCP.

As to the MSFS 3D settings, they are all editable in the NCP (there should be a dropdown list for each setting that is not "grayed out"), but again, I wouldn't recommend that one change any of them, except possibly to enable sharpening and limit the frame rate to 30 FPS. There are more than enough graphics settings in the MSFS User Interface to keep a tinkerer occupied for months.
