I want THAT in the sim, because I know the data exists. I know it. I have even gone and checked it out in VR already. If there was no such data, I would be content with the AI generated approximation I will get in the sim. The technology will improved over time. It's already a giant leap forward. Its perhaps not so much technology bound as much as question on finances. MS own Bing. They don't own Google, and as such there is much more business to handle if switching to Google Maps. Also, it's probably not going to happen because It's almost an admission of "guilt". "Yeah, or own satelite imagery isn't good enough for this next gen stuff, but thanks to our competitor Google over here, we made it". I dont think so. August 11, 20205 yr The AI needs more training. As they feed more and more , it will get better. This is no longer a dev that handcraft everything. WE are getting the whole world as good as the satellite imagery allows it to be. This is amazing. I know you guys want more but it's already incredible. https://fsprocedures.com Your home for all flight simulator related checklist.
August 11, 20205 yr People complained about FSX at first, too. Some said it looked cartoonish and there were complaints about performance and crashing. It didn't run very well for me at first but everything got ironed out. Can you imagine if someone had complained that, in FSX default, they couldn't locate a reasonable facsimile of the area in which they lived? People would have called them naive and wishful dreamers. and so here we are with people trying to prepare us that even though an autogen building may be where our houses are, they may not be an exact replica. hmmmm. Perfect? no. Incredible? YES. I would say so. warts and all. they said it was a new platform and they weren't kidding. I myself have been enjoying a mix of Premier 1 Driver videos and MSFS videos...trying to decide what to check out first in seven days now. I really think I should fly Southampton to EGTF FairOaks just to see how it compares to my Orbx install. Edited August 11, 20205 yr by sightseer | Dave | I've been around for most of my life. August 11, 20205 yr Well, I am redoing my porch right now and it will be done this weekend. I will be very disappointed if that is not correct when I load the game next week - as it is supposed to be real time streaming! 😉 Ryzen 9800X3D | Gigabyte X670 Aorus Elite AX MB | 64GB 6000Mhz DDR5 | RTX 5080 GPU | Windows 11 Pro x64 | Virpil T-50 Throttle | T50 CM2 Grip + WarBRD | VKB T-rudder MK IV | Asus PG279Q 1440p | Pimax Crystal Light VR | Samsung 980 Pro as system disk and Samsung 990 Pro M2 SSD for games

People complained about FSX continuously throughout its life as it was never properly finished even after two service packs, half the issues never got ironed out (all the ones you mention) and then new ones appeared (like OOM). Invoking FSX is not a good example, though I have more hope for Asobo than Aces. ckyliu, proud supporter of ViaIntercity.com. i5 12400F, 32GB, RTX4070, more in "About me" on my profile.
August 12, 20205 yr Very many people complain because they are never happy with what they have already. Of course Microsoft withdrew from the FSX game but the community worked together, payware and freeware, ironed out virtually all the problems and made it into a thoroughly excellent flight simulator. It still is but there are those who will not see it, because the latest must always be the greatest, they must have it and then they must post at every opportunity how good it is, how clever they are to have it and by inference how inadequate must be those who do not. That's called human nature and has little to do with the truth. The developers eventually made such an excellent job that FSX was able to reach its limits, hence the OOMs. However, even they were manageable, except when attempting the ridiculous, such as every slider to the right, massively complex aircraft model and for example, London (England) with every airport and its own scenery highly complex addons as well. The compulsive complainant was unable to accept that some things were not possible and instead, blamed each of the components of the self inflicted problem, as loudly and as often as possible. This section of Avsim is actually reserved for MSFS, so it is no wonder that we speak about that here. And I enjoyed FSX for many years, but I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole right now. No more OOMs for me, baby. FSX was a fine sim, but that doesn't mean MSFS won't be a fine sim too. It looking to be an even greater sim than FSX, and that is quite natural. And the sweet irony is that MSFS is born out of the ashes of FSX. So, FSX should be looked at as the proud parent. Edited August 12, 20205 yr by n4gix Removed unnecessary long quote! I have been a dedicated FSX user since it came out in 2006, and with addons such as Ultimate Terrain and Active Sky it became an awesome flight sim program. But there are limits. For example, in FSX not only is my house not there, my entire street and neighborhood are missing. In fact, in FSX nothing in my hometown, a city of 40,000, resembles reality. No complaints; it's just the limitations of landclass and autogen. The best that could be done (for areas other than major cities with hand-crafted scenery) was to create autogen-based towns that are about the same size as the real ones, in the right location, with buildings appropriate for the area. That was it. But now we enter a completely new era, which is so far beyond anything we have seen up to now that it is truly revolutionary. Nitpicking of FSMS will of course be rampant (I have seen one post complaining that raindrops hitting the runway don't look quite right!), but let's focus on the big picture, which is awesome squared! X-plane 11 -> decided my GTX780 is not good enough for VR.... which is BS AeroFly FS2 -> Nice VR performance but way too limited and expensive. P3D -> been tempted but thankfully been able to resist spending extra on and always have hated that licensing BS and the extra rip-off costs it implied FlyInside sim -> Nice but still a long long way to go. So, FSX rules for now ....until FS2020 has VR Antoine v Heck --- Ryzen 5800X3D, 32Gb DDR4 RAM@1600 Mhz, RTX3090 (24GB VRAM). 2TB SSD - VR with Quest 2 via link cable

A MAJOR difference I've seen between P3D and MSFS is the built-up areas. In P3D the sprawl extends far beyond what is depicted in skyvector charts. in MSFS, which has placed the buildings accurately, the towns are all the same size and shape as on the real world charts.
